Gym without joining fee? Help!

Hi I was a member of crunch fitness in Aston Quay for 2years and also of Crunch in UCD for 2 years before that. Last summer I spent a few months travelling and my membership was suspended in June for non payment from my bank acocunt.
When I returned in September they demanded that I pay the arrears on my account in order to resume serive. I found this unusual seeing as the account was suspended and I am somewhat averse to paying for service I'm not in receipt of. I found their stance stranger still considering that I had been a member of 2 of their gyms for a period of 4yrs and they werent even willing to accomodate a good customer who had also given several referrals.

After leaving I spent most of the winter running outside although the hard ground is now taking its toll on my joints. I'm looking to join a gym again with good treadmills and preferably one that also has a pool.

Does anyoneknow of any gyms that have no joining fee or a very minimal joining fee as its really not an expenditure I can afford at the minute.

    Cheers.

The Carlisle gym at KCR in terenure has no joining fee and is very reasonable anyway. It's less that €400 for a years membership. Place tends to be very busy between 5 and 8 or half 8 in the evenings but if you can make it outside of these times you'd be fine. It has a large gym, loads of threadmills and cardio equipment, lots of weights - machines and free weights, and a 25 metre pool. SHould meet your needs

Total Fitness don't have a joining fee either!

Thanks for the recommendation Butty it is uch appreciated however I live in the city centre and getting to Terenure quickly and easily might prove a little problematic for me.

I've written an email requesting that Crunch review my account again in hope of the waiving the fee but that may very well fall upon deaf ears or blind eyes!

Isn't there a council leisure centre in town? They have member ships with no joining fees or you can pay as you go.

Markevich leisure centre up near Tara st I think. Never been there so can tell you if its any good or not. The other council leisure centres are hit and miss. The Finglas one has great staff but is aims more towards cardio and starting out whereas the Ballymun one has it all, very big gym!

What about the YMCA in Augier Street

Since you have already joined the gym you shouldn't have to join again even if you leave and come back.

That was my experiance anyway. joined first time(paid fee), left for college finals, joined again after, no fee:)

Wasn't Crunch but the principle should be the same, no?

Lazlo - Members of Boards.ie are not required to pay the usual joining fee (€75) when the join The Fitness Dock. It's a special deal I've set up specifically for members of these forums. Just make sure to ask for me so you can get the J/F waived.

We're based on Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2 and are Dublin's only 24-Hour gym.

Check out www.thefitnessdock.ie for more details on what we have to offer.

    Cheers,

    PAUL

Thanks I might have a look. I am interested in finding a swimming pool though which would be the only snag with the fitness dock. I am awaiting a response from Crunch regarding my account and once they have decided I'll either rejoin them or move on to pastures new.

I will bear your offer in mind though.

No Iveagh fitness is between Christchurch and St.Patricks Cathedral (can't remember excactly where). The YMCA is up the road from DIT on Augier St.
