    Hi folks,

I've been looking at buying a 15Hp e/s, r/c engine for the last 2 months - trawling the web stuff like that. Anyway - I came across one make I never heard of that seemed good value...

The engine is realistically only going to be used on a small craft, in the sea - will see around 50 hrs use a year max.

was wondering - as I've never seen this brand in Ireland - has anyone heard good/bad/indifferent things about TOHATSU.

They seem to offer the same as the other brands only severely discounted?! - are they just fresh water engines - less rugged then other engines.. Any experience you've had or friends have had - especially when it comes to servicing would be much appreciated as I'm probably gona bring home from the UK and don't want to be stuck with an engine that no one in Ireland is prepared to service.

    - here the link to a tohatsu site in case you need something to jog your memory

    http://www.tohatsu.co.jp/en/boat/sales/index.html

    cheers

    Jason

I know a few people with these. They're slightly older in design than other brands but no one has complained about any problems. As with all engines flushing with fresh water after being in the sea is good practice.

O'Sullivans Marine in Tralee have been the agents for these for about 30 years. They are certainly used in the sea.
They are used mainly in fishing boats, so I am sure that they are quite rugged.
