The place was crawling with camera geeks - any of you lot?

Surprising amount of stuff to shoot considering spring hasn't really got going yet. There was a tree with blossom though :D

I listened to that and had a giggle for five minutes or so  They were trying to figure out what the difference was between the modes... in the time i was there, they didn't get very far!

Were you using a tripod & flash in the greenhouse with the south african stuff, or were you one of the couple that both had cameras?

Hugh, love that shot. Don't knock your 'moody landscapes' ;)

lol I was there:o My younger brother was up from Cork and we decided to go shooting together. We kept getting caught up with the group who were obv. doing a course or something. It was my third or fourth time and I'd never seen so many photog heads.

Thanks mike, a wider one would have been a physical impossibility coz there's nothing but fresh air behind and I was at the wide end of a zoom, getting soaked!

    :)

elven's always in the red! :D

(also a signature sign of her is her hands shaking, lots!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

I was indeed. Shakey hands included. Should wear my pointy ears for these occasions too!

Borderfox btw i forgot to say - i like it with the darker branch, aye. I uploaded it to flickr and realised that it wasn't as pale as i wanted overall so i used the piknik thing to lighten it but that lightened the branch too. I'd prefer it with the background lighter though.

BanzaiBk, what do you look like? Did you spot me or tadhgrrr?

Heh I was at work. There's blossoms outside the front entrance to Beaumont Hospital. Wonder if I would get into trouble with a camera there...Can't bring my camera to work though. Nice shots Elven and Hugh :)

I thought we were going to organise a boards invasion.... I mean outing?

My 100mm f2.8 Macro turned up and I have an itchy shutter finger :)

Anyone want to go over the next couple of weekend? The weekend of the 26th/27th would be good for me (plus I will be too broke to do anything else, last weekend before payday)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 274 ✭✭tadhgrrr

here are a few of mine from my trip to the gardens, taken with a 400D and a various attachments (first use of my new extension tubes with the 50mm 1.8, and one or two with my Tamron 70-300).

Any c&c welcome..first time really having a look at the macro world and it really opens up a huge new range of photo opportunities. definitely want to head back there in springtime when itll be in full bloom.

This sunday sounds good to me, provided I've shaken this cold/flu bug thingie  and the weather is reasonable (no fun cycling in pissing rain!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Don't worry if you still have a cold. I'll have a hangover.

(If I don't have a hangover, I'll still be drunk, or there's something very wrong.)

you must get your forecasts somewhere different to me:
    met.ie wrote:
Further heavy rain in most parts on Sunday. Rainfall totals of 25 mm to 50 mm are possible over the weekend, with a risk of localised flooding.

I had a friend a long time ago who measured how good his weekend was by the number of times he vomited. A three puke weekend was pretty good, two puke mediocre, one puke barely passable and no puke a disaster.

You sound a bit like him.

    I don't like vomiting :)

    ewww.

Good chance I'll make it on sunday, too...

you must get your forecasts somewhere different to me:

Hadnt even checked forecast, but according to breakingnews.ie we should be in the clear:

Sunday: Ulster and Connacht will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain, some heavy. Elsewhere, it will be mainly dry, but rather cloudy. Moderate south to south-westerly winds.
    Max temp 9-12°C (48-54°F).

Half 12 onwards is good for me.

If people want to PM me for my number, and give me a text, fire away. Even if it's pissing rain out, we can just stay in the glasshouses, and go for a cuppa later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

unfortunatly cant make it - tomorrow is when the christening is on... Shame, Still haven't been to the botanics! :(

I'm sure i'll get there sometime..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    From met.ie;

Cloudy with rain, heavy at times.

Should be grand for most macro. And the rain'll add atmosphere...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

    glasshouses ftw!

I may be there by 12... time for cake first :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    Fine. 12 it is!

I'm only around the corner anyways - If it's terrible, be racing back to mine* for tea and biccies*.

*I am in no way responsible for the condition of my house.

**Biccies may or may not be eaten already.

12, yay, I can stay in bed later than I did today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭CraggyIslander

Will try to make it, but all really depends on what its like outside my window at 11:30ish. 30-40min cycle in the miserable weather as it is at the moment would put me out :(

Fajitas I'll pm you my no in case the weather's crap at 12ish and then decides to clear up hour later :) and I'd be running late ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭RoryW

no macro lens but will try to make it and see what happens with what I have

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

    Nobody stopped me today!
Though one them of is seriously steamy on your lens.

one day, i had to run in, grab two shots, and run back out again - three would have been impossible with the humidity there. i was on MF, though, which would have slowed me slightly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 923 ✭✭✭Chunky Monkey

Nice pic :) Why did you have to run in and out? Not allowed?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 50,891 CMod ✭✭✭✭magicbastarder

not that - it's because the camera was fogging up so quickly with the humidity.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,558 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dades

Today I stayed to look at the plants, and it only took a few mins for the lens condensation to go away.

magicbastarder - that shot captures the humidity in there great!
