Got about 50 on a rack downstairs, then a few that don't fit on the rack (Clerks, Memento, Hellboy Director's cut etc...)
A couple of blu-rays, then another 10+ upstairs
    Altogether I'd say about 75

Fave - Fight Club special edition, just for the cool case:p
Worst - Some crappy bootleg version of fist of the north star, was too lazy to get my money back off the ebayer.

I just love buying random films... got Pi and Last of the Mohicans on the way to me at the moment from play.com, plus the 5 disc edition of bladerunner and Paprika on blu-ray:)

Counting a seasonon a tv shoiw as 1 dvd , I have around 500 dvds (not all tv shows obviously) must do a count later to get an exact number.

Edit. This thread made me decide to start catalogueing. I've done tv so far and its at 105.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭qwertplaywert

About 30 'normal' dvds, and about 15 boxsets.
Favourite dvd=Achorman, will wear that one out very soon!
Box Set=Take your pick from Babylon 5 season 1 to 5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,810 ✭✭✭lodgepole

I think it's about 300, the last time I counted them it was around 250, but i've bought quite a few since then. I actually have to measure them up, i'm getting a shelf made for them, the Argos job i'm using now is seriously straining under the weight. I don't know the count on boxed sets, but i'd say I have between 15 and 20.

Favourite DVD is definitely Rushmore: Criterion.

Worst DVD... Take your pick... I have a decent selection of novelty discs, probably 20 or so, just crap that you pick up in bargain baskets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,746 ✭✭✭Drag00n79

I'm not sure how many I have. I'd guess around the 500 mark. I used to keep track of how many and store them alphabetically etc but there's too many to have as a "nice collection" in the living room now. They now own the room.
    Favourite: Lebowski
    Worst: U-571 (...don't ask!)

just shy of 300 dvd's. 15 boxsets. all action and sci-fi. ohhh hang on the mrs has Brokeback mountain???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭ztoical

I would need to pay someone to come count all of mine cus there's no way I'm doing it. Seriously theres at least 3000 of the things. I've got two of those hold all cd cases that hold 350 cd's full as it was easier when I moved back from the states to chuck the boxes and bring them like that. Four of the smaller cd holders, 8 big storage boxes full and then the rest in their cases on a shelf beside the tv [thou they've started to pile on the floor as the shelves are full].

Boxset wise off the top of my head theres king of the hill seasons 1 to 6, All of family guy, futurama, first 5 seasons of the simpsons, seasons 1 to 4 of nip tuck, Four seasons of the Wire, every season of homicide life on the streets, Mission Hill, All of Star Trek DS9, Enterprise, and two seasons of TNG, All of Buffy and Angel, 3 seasons of project runway, 2 seasons of the amazing race, Survior all stars, Every season of OZ [naked Christopher Meloni yum], I think 6 seasons of ER, 6 seasons of scrubs, 4 seasons of shameless, both seasons of this life........can't think what else is there and too lazy to go look. Theres 20 boxsets sitting beside my drawing desk in my studio not sure which ones, think lost and heros are up there and seasons 2 & 3 of house, all season 1 of carnivale, all 3 seasons of deadwood, 5 seasons of monk [one big boxset] Law and order year 3 and law and order SVU season 1 beside my computer as I type this. Got season 6 of scrubs today off to watch that :D [not counting any of my VHS tapes in this, yes I have no life :p]

I have a whole section for just teenage mutant ninja turtles - all the films, the 80's show and the new show [and yes even the next mutation live action series, see I told you sad]

Fav: Would have to be a tie between the Passion of joan of Arc [the Carl Dryer film not the stupid Besson one] or Holy Mountain by Jodorowsky [thou not really a film its a trip]

Worst: Off the top of my head either the little mermaid 2 [I'm an animator thats the only reason I have it] or Alexander [everyone who comes in asks why IT WAS FREE!!]

calm down there in my parents attic, I didn't want to go into a massive explanation. I posted the boxes but there was no way I was posting the actually DVD's as I was using media mail a very very cheap mail option from USPS [that I actually shouldn't have been able to use for dvd boxes but I was bold and lied on the forum, thank you Irish customs for not looking] but highly likely for boxes to go MIA. I haven't gotten round to putting them back in the cases.

Having said that my friend John has a collection twice the size of mine and he doesn't keep any of the boxes.

62 DVDs and 2 box sets. Not a big fan of box sets

    Favorite: Fight Club :)

Worst: Hard one, cause I only buy movies I like. I'd probably say Harold and Kumar get the Munchies

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Too many to fit on my shelves (already filled 6). Boxsets probably around 20 because Xtravision are selling off the Simpsons seasons for €20 a pop so I bought 5 through 9 to add to 3 and 4. No space for them anywhere though. In total I have probably more than 400. I can't be bothered counting them but at the same time I don't want to know how many I have because then I'll think about the money I've spent.

    Favourite dvd - Scratch

Worst - Candyman 3 is probably the worst one I've ever bought.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

20 with 7 more in the post! :o

    Includes about 6 bluray/hddvd titles.

Favorite movie: Hard one, prolly Jurassic Park or 300 :p

Worst movie: Phonebooth or predator 2 :o

what? thats a great movie! granted I did see it in new york with around 12 other people and under the better title of harold and kumar go to white castle and its was a 1am showing after we'd be out on the town since around 5 :D so my memory of the movie is tainted and it did have Christopher Meloni [granted under alot of makeup] which always makes me happy.

We did think about heading to white castle after but going out to queens was to much effort. I will prob see the sequel just for Neil Patrick Harris.

I used to own hundreds and this was a few years ago. If I had gone on the same way I was, I'd literally have thousands now. With torrents and broadband so readily available, one day I just said - hell with it...plus I had some bills to pay at the time...so just sold them all!

it would estimate about 300. i had them all in the living room, but the missus insisted they were an eye sore there and just generated clutter, so they're now out of sight upstairs..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,595 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Having worked in a high-street DVD retailer for some time, I amassed a huge collection. However, lending them to friends, family etc has meant that they're currently a bit all over the place, and most annoyingly of all, some are missing discs.

My favourites are my Curb Your Enthusiasm & Seinfeld boxsets, my This Is Spinal Tap and Star Wars.

I've also amassed a modest collection of blu-ray over the festive period, and I'll be buying these instead of DVDs from now on...

I have a few thousand (not counting cheap B movies like Alien Species) currently covering all the free space in my room. I tried shelves but quickly ran out of space and now just pile them by genre all over the place.. I tried to tidy them up last night but after four hours and no real change decide to leave them be.

My favourites at the minute: Zodiac Directors Cut and Heroes Season One, though this will more than likely change over the course of the next week.
Worst: Alien Apocalypse, not even Bruce Campbell can save it.

About 350, bought about 15 over Xmas and have only got around to watching 2 of them.

Favourite one would have to be either my Godfather Trilogy boxset or else the Limited Edition steel case of La Haine.

I didn't think I had but after reading this post I was trying to do a really rough count [mainly looking through all the big storage boxes as I'd no idea how many were in each one] and found I'd two copies of garden state, don't know how that happened. I did end up with two copies of seaon 1 of dark angel and two copies of the complete blackadder boxset as people got them for me for xmas. and I'd already got them.

My mum is awful for buying the same film twice, she never remembers what she has - she ended up with three copies of one of the harry potter films and would have got a forth copy if my brother and I hadn't stopped her.

A kindred spirit. All my brothers are embarassed when people see my room. It's pasked to the brim with comics, DVDs, figures, and a massive Steamboy picture which takes up one entire wall.

I've been told that I'll die alone and never have a housemate, as I nearly killed my college roommate when he took down an Iron Man poster I had hung in the hallway. He said either it went or he went. Suffice to say he did'nt reside in the house for much longer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

The only time I've ever bought a DVD twice was when they brought out a big shiny special edition that I had to have, but that's a rarity. Case in point, Hellboy 3 Disc Director's Cut. Still have the 2 Disc Hellboy lying around there.

I lived in dorms when I first started college in new york - these dorms were an old hotel so you got a small single room with your own fridge and bathroom but it was pretty tight fit. When I moved people thought my room was like Mary Poppins bag cus I just kept bringing stuff out, no one could believe the sheer volume of crap I had.

I was studying cartooning and one of my teachers is an editor at DC and he got to go to Marvels private screening of X2 [not sure why they invited the DC guys along, maybe to rub it in their faces] and he got me a giant X2 poster at the screening. My friend ripped the corner taking it down when I was moving and I would have killed them had I not blocked my path with piles of boxes...of course they then ran away before I found my way around and I had to finish moving by myself.

I'm now buying my first house, three bedroom semi detached so my dvds, books, prints, comics, statues, and disney snowglobes [I'm obsessed with them] will finally have a proper home :D

I've done that [T2 is the first one I remember doing it with] but I knew I already had it when I was buying the newer shiner one and I usually give the older DVD to someone. With Garden State I actually don't recall buying the second copy at all, its exactly the same edition, in the same box yet I only noticed last night.

Probably about 400 at this stage, though I haven't bought many lately except for the Arrested Development set (seasons 1,2 and 3, thanks to basquille's post on Bargains!).
Got my eye on the Zodiac Director's Cut at the moment, the (American?) cover is fantastic too.

Anyone interested in posting up pics?

I know the feeling. The bedrooms in our college accomadation was prety cramped. I literally had every surface covered. Comics piled four foot off the ground, Shelves bulging with various stuff and a room mate who was a thieving bas*ard. I came home from a holidays to find that he had tried to screw the handle off my door and when that had'nt worked tried to kick my door in. When I asked hime why, he said he need money for him and his friend to buy drugs and that he was sure some of my signed comics would be worth a few euro. Thankfully he never got in, if he had chances are he would have emptied the place.

People seem unable to remove posters from any surface without doing their damnest to tear it. I had an X2 lobby stand which my mother mistakenly folded up and my brother then decided would be perfectly at home in the bin. By the time I got to it, it was long gone. I carried that stand three miles in the pissing rain to get it home.

Turn it into a haven. When I get my first house, (which is a few years off due to returning to college and the fact that making money as a writer is quite difficult) I plan on building seperate rooms for my comics, DVDs, figures, and other such items. Will be heaven on Earth.
