Would anyoune be interested in a boards photography meet in North County Dublin/Meath? We had one last year in Balbriggan which was quite succesful.

I was thinking of one of the following or even combining a few.

Skerries (windmill, beach), Balbriggan (harbour, ardgillan castle), Meath (bective abbey, hill of slane, hill of tara, knowth, newgrange).

Now this would be a proper photography meet so it would be an early start for the golden hour. Latecomers would be welcome.

Dates I was thinking of was 23/24 February 2008.

Was trying to think of another location to add to that list, but it's hard. Balrath Wood possibly?

23rd / 24th and then off to the Brummy's on the 25th. Superb!

Possibly most interested in the 24th..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

23rd is Ireland V Scotland in the rugby.

Remember that some places like Newgrange are OPW sites, and only allow external photography (and you can't use the images commercially without a license).

Sounds like a great idea though, and I'm interested. :D

I am against Newgragne - it is complicated to get there. And official tours begin after 9AM. There are nice views from opposite hills, however only for tele-lenses.
If we talk about towns and castles, and the sandy beach at the end, I could be interested.
But I am not going to sign for that. What else I could loose now? :-(

I shall do my utmost to attend. And will probably have a spare (if slightly cramped - Sinead generally gets dibs on the front) seat available in my car, coming from D6.

You could consider staying around Navan or Drogheda. The 'D' Hotel in Drogheda is pretty smart, and seem to always have room offers on. You could also look at the New Grange Hotel in Navan.

Trim has some lovely spots down by the river if you're looking for that sort of thing. And ruins galore!

I'm going to nail it down for 24th February so everyone can plan for that date.

I will dome some scouting of the areas this weekend to plan it.

If you do go make sure you check out bled and bohij. You will get some amazing pictures of the lakes - was there last year and the lake at bohij is like something out of lord of the rings.

(you probably already know this but just in case :) )

All of Feb taken too (all these yank sites with ideas for these brides to be me thinks ;)) which is going to be interesting in this weather so if it gets any worse the couples might have to delay things ............

Right, I'm not off to Slovenia until the 26th, so am in for this trip! :)

    Just to update on this.

The plan for the day is to visit Monasterboice Round Tower, Mellifont Abbey and the Hill of Slane. We will aim to be at the Hill of Slane for the sunset so it won't be too early a start on the Sunday. If people want to head of to different spots, then there is Brú na Bóinne, Battle of Boyne site, amongst others nearby.

There is free parking at all locations and we will probably meet up beforehand at a car park just of the M1 turnoff for Monasterboice. From there we will head to Monasterboice, then Mellifont finishing at Slane. At this time of the year there is no charge for entering the sites.

It would be a good idea to bring food and drink with you as there isn't too many places near to these sites (except for Slane village).

If anyone has any other ideas for the day, please post them up.

Just a note on the above, the Junction at Monasterboice only exits traffic heading Southbound, there is no exit/slip road from Northbound side. You would be better to meet at junction after bridge over Boyne

They have all the matrix signs operating 'X minutes to M1/J9 Drogheda" etc, unfortunately the junctions are not numbered and there are 4 exits you can use into Drogheda.

What time are you thinking of meeting?

if you take the first exit after bridge and then take the second road you are on the yellow coloured road north west on the map. If you then take the first left (called Townley Hall Road on map which is the turning for Tullyallen), there is a Mace (I think that is what it is) Supermarket on the left hand side after a few hundred metres. We could meet in the carpark there (ample parking) and stock up on provisions there ?

    what do you think ?

Thanks Mylow & RoryW. I'm going to run up this weekend and plan the route again. I'll check out that Mace carpark.
