    Just saw this too: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/foot...ls/7189055.stm

currently 21 on betfair .. surely worth a small punt?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 74 ✭✭MarkOShea

Houllier is odds on now! 1/3 with PP, around 2.0 on Betfair. I haven't had any bets on this since I backed Roy Hodgson abouot a month ago. I've a few pound coming on the newcastle market and am laying it all against Houillier.

Crazy price. Unless someone knows something I don't...............!

Edit: €4000 waiting to back him at 1.9! That's a lot of money. I layed at 1.96 only a minute ago..

Massive money today for Liam Brady, backed into as little as 9/4, but now the betting flipped, Houllier now odds on!! Whats that about!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 74 ✭✭MarkOShea

It's crazy. On Betfair alone Brady, Houllier, Venables have all traded odds on...Venables as low as 1.5ish! Deschamps went less than 6/4. David O' Leary was around 2/1 back when the market started. Dalglish had been less than 2/1 before he got the Newcastle job.

A layer's paradise! Bookies are laughing I'd say.

now the betting is suspended with paddypower & ladbrokes!

now the betting is suspended with paddypower & ladbrokes!
The betting was suspended in every bookies (bar PP) hours ago. Paddy Power suspend betting at about this time every night.

There was much more money put on Houllier today than there was on Venables when RTE posted this:
    http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2008/0111/venablest.html

At least when Deschamps was getting backed there had been rumours flying about beforehand and Roy Keane even mentioned it. I don't see any reason why Houllier would be be getting backed more than anyone else just because his odds got cut.

imo there's definitely something up with Houllier and the FAI.

I dont think theres any fraud of any sorts, its just people are getting too excited when one big bet is put on, or another interview is done, this has caused so many different candidates odds to drop, Paddypower are laughing!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 265 ✭✭The Gambler 101

Who do people think will get the job?

Can't imagine Gerard Houllier leaving his post as the French Football Federation's technical director, for the Irish job, looking at the betting and the way its going you would think Houllier has signed the dotted line last night!

It seems to be between the front three runners in the betting exchange, Liam Brady, Houllier and Venables! I honestly think that none of the big names want the job, becuase it is going to be very difficult to succeed. Thats why I fancy Liam Brady to be given the role!

I honestly thought dave o leary was the man but since he rejected the interview i think mick mccarthy could be a dark horse;);)

you should get on betfair and take the small few quid on him at 55's & 60's!

Jaysus lads, trying to pick the next manager for Ireland is nearly impossible.

Those guys that used to be in Merrion Square could do anything. For all we know they could appoint somebody with no international management experience & very little managerial experience of any sort.

Some taxi driver txted a radio show saying he collected Kenny and he told him he had just come from an Interview for the Irish job. Althought it may not be true it could be the reason for the money on Dagliesh (who would be sh*t).

Saw one lad going from one bookie to another backing Tigana. Wouldn't be for me though. But just in case anyone wanted to know. Wasn't for big money but probably enough (if it won) to get a holiday out of.

    were u following him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 265 ✭✭The Gambler 101

Houllier is supposed to have said hes not interested in the job!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 384 ✭✭badbrian

    were u following him?

Not intentionally but it was the end of racing and as I was leaving I saw him run across to another bookie across the road. And as he walked into the first shop, and went straight to the counter to check the price and then backed it, I assumed he was doing the same again.

Liam Brady has been cut from 7/1 to 15/8 second fav with paddy powers!

Any one any idea when the FAI will announce the out come?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭jameshayes

I'm thinking about laying big on Houllier... I think it's later tonight, probably near the 9pm news...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭jameshayes

Back him yesterday on a mates advice. Wonder will it be him?

I'd like Liam as our manager, he's very intelligent and has a wealth of experience from playing in UK & italy etc.. Would be great to see him there!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 265 ✭✭The Gambler 101

I backed him last week at 3/1 on word i got, then he drifted out to 8/1!

Ive also backed Dalglish at 8/1 and after seeing Jean Tigana takes a nose dive in the betting, had a few on him at 50/1 also!

But its Brady I want to win, more money riding on him!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 384 ✭✭badbrian

Personally I wouldn't back Brady. Delaney was blamed for picking an inexperienced manager with no track record last time. Why would he pick another Irish manager with no proven success like Brady when his neck is on the line. Much easier to pick a bigger name with some success to their name.
Personally I wouldn't mind Brady getting the job, but from a punting perspective with Delaney under pressure to get it right it doesn't make sense.

I got a tip from a mate of mine that works in the FAI to back brady last week. he was at 16/1 just checked Paddypower this mornin and he was 2/1.. Madness!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

This morning I was told by someone with a supposed source inside that its Hoddle or McCarthy!

Half the time I think they are taking the piss.

i reckon delanley would be hung if mccarthy was given the job!

hope ur mate is rite about brady! :D

    Why?

McCarthy has good experience with managing club and country, he would be far better than many other candidates who have been thrown around, prefer him ten times more than Venables.

I would personally like to see Big Mick take the reigns.

i got the exact same word about brady, fingers crossed!!!

McCarthy has the experience but I cant seem him getting the job.

It is very hard to pick the manager going on the market! How many favourites have their been in the last 4 months??

I've heard Brady to be announced on the 9pm news.

Venables price has really went out.

    9.8 on BF

    Houllier still favourite @ 2.8

    But Brady into 3.9

What is with the FAI, they announced The Muppett was gone after midnight and now this news coming around 9:00pm ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,110 ✭✭✭Y2J_MUFC

My bet would be Liam Brady & Johnny Giles. Lets face it, they will probably come cheaply (compared to Big Sam, or Houillier), and thats all that matters to FAI... I'd expect the betting to change another 100 times or so, because the are gonna put the appointment off for as long as possible. Its all a money saving racket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭jameshayes

Irish Times said today that it's more than likely gonna be Liam Brady because of betting trends, but he's still 6-1!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,349 ✭✭✭ErinGoBrath

Over 1.5million traded on Betfair for this market. It's a sham. And I'm ashamed to say some of its mine ;)

Ive just got a phone call saying back Jean Tigana...a buddy got the word of a good source apparently!

    Total matched on Houllier: €693,913
    Total matched on Venables: €366,420
    Total matched on Brady: €171,692

A lot is down to trading but the totals don't lie. Many significant bets on all 3 though. In reality I reckon nobody knows who it will be yet.

Its annoying how long this is going on. Although not for the bookies though, they're making a fortune.
