Afaik Oven Chips are fried in oil first, but not fully cooked, and then frozen.

As with all things just look at the nutritional values on the packet to find out what's in them.

Aparently the mccain rustic ones are not prefired, just coated in sunflower oil then frozen and the skins are still on.

If that's the case why not just get a potato and cut it up yourself and put it in the oven the same way?

Because it adds 5 minutes onto the total cooking time! ;)
