    hey,

Just had first session back in gym thsi year. Gym at work. Took it relatively easy. Fine until afterwards when just about to go back to my desk, bent down to put down gym bag and nearly blacked out. Had to struggle to stay awake. That was ten minutes ago. My heart is still going at 160bpm and I feel very weird. What is happening to me? Very scary.

    Hey Gumby,

    It's happened me before.
Give it a while and you will be grand.
Just sit and take it easy. Get some sugary tea.
    Did you have breakfast?

Hey. Thanks man. That's good to hear and has set my mind at ease a bit. I had porridge for breakfast. I got it into my head that maybe it was diabetes or something like that so I went and got a smoothie and now it has gone away. Is it lack of sugar that causes it and should I take some sugary food before exercise like honey? Thanks again for your response.

I've been through that too, it happened to me twice years ago when i would return to the gym after a considerable break , say 2 months and then i would try and get back into the normal routine. It would go fine and then all of a sudden when you're resting , you feel like you're going to pass out!!! it was scary at the time but i learned that if you've been away from the gym for a while then you need to ease back into it before you can resume your normal workout.

Happened to me too. It will stop after a few workouts

I black out regularly after intense exercise. Medical peeps have always put it down to my low BP. Occasionally they've given me a saline/glucose drip but it's never been a big issue. Having said that, if you're worried, see a doc to rule out anything serious.

I had low blood pressure when I was a teenager, and I blacked out from it once, and felt like I was going to black out numerous times (Head swimming etc). I don't recall experiencing a high pulse rate when this happened. It sounds to me like symptoms of exhaustion/low blood sugar.
Agree that it might be a good idea to mention it to a doctor.

Thanks guys. Not so worried about it now. I'll probably take it easy in the gym for the rest of the week. Lay off the cardio and do weights and a little cycling maybe. Bloody scary stuff though! Am glad nobody came around the corner at work and saw me grabbing the wall and looking demented!
