WestWood Gym Cheap Joining Fee

I moved into an apartment block recently that's attached to a gym and I get free membership as part of my lease. As a result, I am seeking to extricate myself from my WestWood contract.

Anyone interested in buying it? Both parties would be winners, as the buyer gets the joining fee for E65 (instead of E300 or something) and I get out of the contract.

The WestWood is great. It's in Leopardstown, Sandymount and Clontarf; your membership is good for them all. The pool in the Sandymount one is seawater, the cardio stuff in Leopardstown have great views of the race tracks. But don't take it from me, see
    http://westwood.hosting365.ie/index.php?page=Membership%20Benefits12 for further details.

I'm actually selling two memberships, as my girlfriend is similarly enslaved by her contract.

Please PM me if you want to save some cash as you join a great gym.

    Best of luck selling it.

However, I must add that nobody pays €300 joining fee to Westwood even thought they quote that figure.
I gurantee if you ring them tomorrow and tell them you're interested in joining they will say "it's normally €300 but we have this one time special offer that ends today and I can let you pay €65."
That offer was running for the past 6 months though
I know this as I called.

this is true. i have never seen anybody pay the 300. i paid 75. i got out of my westwood contract by walking in there and telling them i had enough of the place and I was going to go cancel my direct debit so they better let me out of it. guess what....it worked.

    Thanks for the tips.

Yes, I know practically nobody pays the E300 (that's why I said "or something"!), but do people usually pay as low as E65? I'm sure I paid higher. I really should remember as I only switched from Crunch to the Westwood back in the autumn.

Can I really just cancel my direct debit? I'll try it with the bank and see what happens. Kind of makes contracts meaningless (which is just the way I like them) if I can unilaterally cancel it. I guess it's my bank account though.

It would suit me better just to cancel it rather than involve myself in rigmarole trying to sell it.

well if you did cancel it you would probably be breach of contract. i doubt they'd chase you but when i threatened to finish the dd they agreed to let me out of the contract. if you kick up enough of a fuss you'll be ok!

I asked about cancelling the DD when I joined. They told me that if you cancel the DD with e.g. three months to go, if you ever decide to go back to Westwood you have to pay those three months off before they let you rejoin. They check all your details and catch you on things like mobile number, bank a/c details etc.

So if you'll never be rejoining, you'd probably be ok to cancel.

Thanks for the info, everyone. I'm not interested in selling it, I just want to cancel it. So the advice is music to my ears. Grazie!
