    Define 'best'.

Some people might say a keyboard with a working caps-lock key is best ;)

Buy a how to write course.

For 1000 you'll only get a mid range laptop. Look for something with a 8600GT or 7900/7950 GS/GTX, 2GB RAM and a 2Ghz Processor. There some used laptops with that spec on adverts. Try to get one with some warranty left.

You'll do well to get a new XPS for €1000 that has a decent gfx card.

Even if you up your budget to 2000 your not going to get a laptop that can play the latest games at max settings....The tech isnt there on the laptops at the moment,no quad core,no nvidia 8800 series no decent/affordable Ati card.....

Best of getting a decent core 2 duo,8600gt laptop now for under €800 (below),it will play all the latest games at medium/high settings and you can sell it on nest year when, laptop tech catches up some bit.....

You could get a gaming desktop too,to bring it up to €1500 :p

You'll do well to get a new XPS for €1000 that has a decent gfx card.

    3 euro's over his budget:
    XPS M1530
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2-cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium - English edit
HARDWARE SUPPORT Base Warranty - 1 Year XPS Premium Hardware Support (incl. Gaming and On-Site Support) edit
    15.4¿ UltraSharp™ WXGA (1280x800) CCFL Display (220nits) with TrueLife™ edit
Biometric Fingerprint Reader with BLACK accent edit
    2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024] edit
120GB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive edit
NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB dedicated graphic memory edit
Fixed 8x DVD+/-RW Slim Slot Load drive, including SW edit
PRIMARY BATTERY Primary 6-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (56 WHr)

e1003 incl vat and shipping on the Dell EPP site and using the current 10% off code. (expires 9th Jan)

It's by no means a current high-spec gaming laptop, but for a new machine with full 1yr warranty it's nice value for money. Note that it's the GDDR3 loaded 8600M GT, seems much better than the DDR2 8600M GT based on the benchmarks.

Good find. I stand corrected. The GDDR3 does seem a bit quicker from that alright.

50% quicker going by the 3DMark05 scores from a similarly (not identical) specced Vostro 1500 with DDR2 8600M GT on the same site.

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Dell-Vostro-1500-Laptop.6806.0.html

    7923 versus 5297

Im not a gamer and don't know much about these things ;), but I presume 50% isnt to be sniffed at.

I'd spec it a bit higher myself, but just wanted to stay at the grand mark for the sake of the OPs original budget.
