So folks, after a bout of the flu before Christmas, Christmas itself, and then a most annoying cold that developed around new year's and that I am trying to kick by the end of this week, I am getting ready to get back into my old fat-busting routine. I am 5'9", 13 stone and I've gone from a 36 to a 34 inch waist over the past 6 months. I have been 13 stone constant for the past few years. Packed on a nice bit of muscle over the past 6 months too. My training is pretty much sorted, I lift heavy and I almost always do full-body routines, e.g. combining dumbbell benching with dumbbell squats, plus a small amount of intense cardio (maybe 15-20 mins on the rower). On non-lifting days I'd go for HIIT and will be doing MMA from next week once a week.

The main issue however is with food - I stay away from junk (with the exception of Christmas) but am not the most adventurous or imaginative when it comes to food. A typical day for me coming into the New Year will look like this:

Breakfast: Always porridge with a little honey or salt. Mid-morning would have sugar-free muesli and/or some mixed nuts.

Lunch: (at work) Would be meat + veg or lettuce, with maybe a little carbs in the form of potatoes.

Dinner (post-training): now here's the thing. I was eating protein rich meals post-training for max fat-burning effect. Generally eggs with tuna or chicken with maybe a couple of Ryvitas. Might have a bowl of fresh veg soup the odd time. I'd like to get some ideas from you guys on fat-loss friendly meals I can throw together fairly easily in the evening time, that are protein heavy and carb-free (or at least carb-light).

    Ideas?

    1. A piece of lean meat or fish (10-15mins on the grill)
ie Salmon, Mackerel, Trout, Chicken, Turkey, Steak - whatever
    2. As much as you like of green veg (5-6mins in the steam)
ie Broccoli, Mongetout, Snap Peas, Green Beans, Spinach, Sprouts
    3. Small amounts of root veg.
    ie Carrot, Parsnip, Potato etc

Drizzle some almond oil or the like over the veg and job done!

PS - Obviously you could be more creative but I tend to like plain food, so the above suits me just fine, but if you tend to get bored easy with meals you could invest in a low carb cookbook like Berardi's Gourmet Nutrition.

PPS - congrats on the progress, sounds like a real good job!

What is the opinion on brown rice with your meal. Good or bad for weight loss?

Well it would depend on your whole diet, 1 item isnt gonna make or break it.
Generally I treat rice like bread, ie never eat white and only eat brown pre or post gym.
