On a more football related topic, the stoke game could be a real banana skin for us, hopefully we will get through it, toooooooooooon.

Stoke away is a big banana skin for poor old Sam. I think Stoke may very well knock them out and put him under major pressure. 7 in managers 10 years tells a tale about that club. They surely have no choice now but to give Allardyce some time to turn it around. At least til next season.

Hopefully Charlton will knock us out and we can concentrate on winning the league.

This unfortunately seems to be the case more and more each year. How many of the relegation sides will put out reserve teams this weekend? Could be a lot of own goals in the Sunderland v Wigan as they hurry out of the cup and concentrate on the league.

This more than anything is ruining the FA Cup. The teams in the bottom 6 of the premier league will field reserve teams. As you say Sunderland and Wigan will probably treat this game as little more than a nuisance. The teams pushing for Euro places may also field weakened teams. Any team pushing for promotion from the championship will likely 'rest' a few aswell.

When Allardyce was manager of Bolton he consistently fielded second-string selections in the FA Cup, showing it no respect at all. And I mean it's not like Bolton have an overloaded trophy cabinet. His position at NUFC being what it is I'd say he can afford no such luxury this wkend. Balancing the books now is more important, keep the money men upstairs happy. That's where it's become a business now more than a game.

Ruining ? How on earth is a club putting league relegation/promotion/title winning ahead of a cup run ruining the FA cup ???? Any self respecting fan if asked 'would they rather win a few cup games or not get relegated' and for the sake of the FA cup they should choose the cup run ? That is your opinion i take it ?

Fine, but it didn't stop teams fielding full strength sides in the cup in the past. Why? Because there wasn't so much pressure for results as there is now. Why? Because there's crazy money involved these days and I suppose they've no choice. But that's business, not football.

John Motson and the lads at the BBC do, for obvious reasons.

Can't wait to see the customary clips of Ardiles' cup final goal and Arsenal's comeback win over United in 1979 to remind viewers of 'the magic of the FA Cup'.

Its like the snooker every year where they dust down the video of Taylor's 1985 win over Davis during the intermission of the Final.

Comedian Frank Carson will be telling jokes in the Chasetown dressing room before their FA Cup tie with Cardiff to prevent the players getting too nervous (Daily Express).

Reading goal has englands no1 stamped all over it :D
    1525: GOAL Tottenham 0-1 Reading
A more bizarre goal we are not likely to see this weekend. Stephen Hunt's long free-kick is caught under the bar by Spurs keeper Paul Robinson but his momentum takes him backwards and the lineman rules that the ball has crossed the line. Calamitous from Robinson although it is difficult to see whether the whole of the ball went over the line.

    chelsea 1 up too.

Yes I think so, as an Arsenal supporter it may not be a number 1 priority but I still want to win it. 3rd round is not what it used to be,but as the competition goes on it gets better.

As a supporter and as much as I love London, I will miss the finals not been in Cardiff, really a perfect spot for a cup final, and very much a second home for us over recent years.

And no credit for 2 excellent back to back performances in the premiership? All it takes is seeing McShane at his best to realise how good he can be. For me it's "will be" because I think he'll be learning lots with every game. Unlike, say, Phil Babb who relied on an organiser beside him for most of his career.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

He's shown that within a couple of years, if he can eliminate the mistakes in his game, I think he could be as good as the Honey Monster.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,013 ✭✭✭✭eirebhoy

Aye. That fact is McShane was running back at full speed to put in a tackle to make up for Johnny Evans' mistake. If that was McShane that made the mistake Pigman probably wouldn't mention the og and just focus on McShane. He's dying for him to fail.
