    Howdy,

This is just my 2c by the way, but i think it may be worth your while to get your diet sorted out (loads of info in the stickies on this) to begin with.

Activities, may try out a few different types and see how you get on. Goals are important but so is having fun and enjoying what you are doing. Functional excercise is great too, cycle or walk whenever you can, great for keeping your activity level up and also great for the environment!

    Good Luck with it!!

I don't mean to stereotype but builders diets generally tend to be, well crap and this is probably your downfall. So look into sorting that out first

Ogill2000 - As ali.c said, nutrition is the main thing to begin with. If you work on a building site, it's actually very easy to eat well. All it takes is some meal preparation the night before. Meal replacement/protein shakes are very helpful because you can just take a few swigs once in a while without having to take a lunch break. Eating frequently throughout the day will help you much more than 3 big meals.

It's very likely you have a lot of muscle already as a result of the physical nature of your daily work. However, I'd strongly recommend you join a gym and start a strength training program. Muscle is metabolcally active; the more of it you have, the more calories (and fat) you will burn throughout the day, even when resting. People gain weight when they age because they lose muscle, which slows down their metabolism. To reverse this trend, use strengh training to regain all the muscle you have lost over the years.

If you find it difficult to motivate yourself to train on your own, there are classes like Boxing Circuits and Body Pump. In a group class, you will tend to push yourself much harder than you would if you were doing cardio by yourself.

If you have any questions, pm me and I'll do my best to answer them.

    Hope that helps,

    Paul
