    Got this for christmas from my Japan based sibling. Brilliant fun. Best pre and post drinking game there is. To say my ski slalem was better after a nights drinking would be an understatement. Only problem is my disk is in japanese..... so I've no idea what the thing is telling me.

    PS where did you find that release date? Can't find anything ont he net about it

    Amazon.co.uk had it at 25th January last November, but its now 25th of May (which sounds more likely).

    Hey Google Master... try verifying your info before jumping the gun. :)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_Fit
    Activities

    Nintendo of Europe's E3 2007 page for the United Kingdom states that the training within Wii Fit will be divided into four categories: Aerobic Exercise, lasting ten minutes, Muscle Conditioning, Yoga Poses, and Balance Games, including ski-jumping. These exercises will provide a "core workout", emphasizing slower, controlled motions. Of these activities, the following were shown at E3 2007, in conjunction with Wii Fit's announcement.

    * Yoga exercises
    * Push ups
    * Step aerobics, including a game in which the player must step on and off the Wii Balance Board in rhythm to the background music
    * Heading on-coming soccer balls and avoiding other objects by leaning forward and back
    * A ball-rolling mini-game
    * Hula hooping
    * Ski jumping, whereby the player squats as low as possible, whilst maintaining his or her balance, and then quickly stands as fast as possible in order to gain a good jump
    * Jogging
    * Tightrope walking

    as it's all in japanese I've given them my own names:

    There's 5 catregories (one of which is "most played")

    1. Yoga: Different yoga exercises. Some are very tough to do.

    2. Stretches: Pushups etc.

    3. Fitness games:

    Hula Hooping - move like you're hula hooping.
    Jogging - put the wiimote in your back pocket and jog on the spot. This is actually fairly addictive (and very tiring) due to the high score table
    More Hula Hooping - this time you do it for longer, in varying directions while trying to catch as may hoops being thrown at you as possible.
    More jogging (2 player I think)
    Boxing - like the wii sports game but your punching a talking punching bag and you have to step in tune with the onscreen instructions.
    Step Arobics - a lot tougher than it sounds. You have to step in time with the screen and it varies the directions you step off the board.

    4. Mini Games:

    Ski Slalem - crouch and lean forward to go faster. move from side to side to steer. Best game imo. very addictive.
    Ski Jump - Crouch and lean forward to go faster. At the end of the runway stand up to jump. Again very additive due to the high score table.
    Heading the ball - lean from side to side to head the balls while avoiding the boots and the panda heads (yep - they kick panda heads at you)
    Ball rolling game - steer the ball(s) into the hole by tilting the platforms. very good game.
    Tightrope walking - shift your weight slightly from side to side to walk while maintaining your mii's balance on the rope. Not great.
    Sitting game - Don't really understand this one as it's explained in Japanese. I think you're meant to just sit really still on the board without moving. there's a candle on the screen in a dark room and there's some wierd noises every so often. A moth came onto the screen once.

    5. Most Played Games.

    In Smyths in Dublin yesterday, they had "March 2008" up on the boards.

    Mr E.... How accurate is that May 25th source? The site is blocked here.

    Again, the old release date was Jan 2008, but I'm pretty sure they are releasing Wii Fit first, then getting Wii Music sorted.. . so maybe a month or so after Wii Fit sounds about likely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Mario, M&S Olympics and Wii fit were Shigeru Miyamoto projects. Now that they're out, he is free to concentrate on Wii Music.

    Don't know how accurate the Wii Fit release date is (I don't work for Nintendo!). Until we hear otherwise, May 25th is probably the date to watch. Its listed on a few sites (maybe copying each other, I don't know).

    Wii Fit has sold a million in its first month in Japan - might mean we get it sooner?

    I was told in gamestop in dublin that it will be out in march and smyths said the same.

    seemingly there is a delay as the balance board has to have its weight tolerance increased for us fat westerners.

    Where did you find this information?

    Jaysus that's fcuking heavy though!

    I must say though it's a solid piece of work, it's fairly light but feels like you could jump up and down on it and not damage it. There's 2 nice handles for carrying it too....

    Just have to wait for the PAL release now so I can get it working on my PAL Wii

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭ZOLTAN28

    is the skiing as it good as it sounds - hope some third party tit;es make good use of it - they have failed miserably with the wiimote

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,510 ✭✭✭sprinkles

    the skiing is brilliant craic. I think the wii mote is the same as the DS - it'll be this year that the 3rd party devs make good use of it... the DS took a year or 2 to bed in and now it's got plenty of great games. It'll be next year before we start to see great games making use of the balance board... still though you've all the Ninty games to keep you going til then

    Interesting article. A skiing game with a balance board and nunchuck/wiimote as poles would be epic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,510 ✭✭✭sprinkles

    That's what I said while playing the slalem levels on wii fit. It would be legend!

    Regarding Skiing, there is a great little game called Family Ski from japan for the Wii and it's really really good, having played it, somehow, I find it great fun, the Nunchuck and Wiimote acting as the ski poles, twisting causes you to tuck and turning them together in each direction turns you accordingly, you also can use your Miis and dress them up in Ski gear, what fun!
    You get a whole mountainside of slopes to run down, each run having different characteristics, some speed, some slalom and some stunt.
    Not sure if there are further slopes to hut but it is a very nice game indeed.

    Not that any of that has a tremendous amount to do with WiiFit, I want it, does that count?

    Is it This?

    Yup, thats it, having had a bit more time to research, that is to say google it, I see it's compatible with the balance board, excellent, and it'll be nice to have something other than the packin software to play with.
    It's a really nice game, the lack of a language barrier, most of the text defaults to english, whilst the there are pieces of text that come up as an error message, they don't seem to intrude at all.
    Overall and nice little title, hopefully a budget one, as there isn't a tremendous amount of game here, rather sandbox type playing about.

    Alt+F4 also works;)

    Given the amount of time that I spent playing Wii Sports (all of 30 minutes), I somehow doubt I'll bother getting this one...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,328 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

    €95 is pretty steep. I realise you get a bit of kit with it but still...

    Being the Ninty whore that I am, I'll be getting this.....although truth be told, wifey ordered me to get it! :D

    God bless Ninty for turning wives and girlfriends everywhere into non gamer-hating godesses :)

    If you want Wii Fit, looks like you'll have to preorder.... Doesn't look like there'll be enough to go around on the day...
    Those who fancy a bit of Wii Fit might want to order a copy now, as it's already selling out with more than two weeks to go until release.

    Wii Fit is set to hit the shops on April 25th, priced at GBP 69.99 for the game and balance board accessory. More than one million copies were sold in Japan during the first month it was on sale, and now it's looking like that success will be repeated here.

    Play.com sold out of its entire allocation of Wii Fit in just one day. Over at GAME the item as listed as "temporarily unavailable", while at Asda it's "sold out". However, you can still place a pre-order at some shops, including Gamestation and HMV, and the others might get some more in.

    "Wii Fit is going to be huge - let's hope that we can keep up with demand," said Gian Luzo, head of games at Play.com. "We are expecting more stock before launch."

    I pre ordered it in Game last Saturday, no idea of the price as I forgot to ask!
    I doubt you will get a good deal online as all websites seem to be sold out.
