Overall goal - get into the best shape in my life!

How I plan to get there :-

    1) Cut out alcohol to my birthday or special occasions - no more than once a month at worst.

    2) Start morning training - I'd like to take up mountain running and to that end come rain or shine I'm hoping to build up to a 30-40 minute jog/run during weekday mornings with one longer run at the weekend.

    3) Attack my weight set - start splitting up training into areas rather than overall everytime. Aim to train 4 or maybe 5 days a week depending on how I feel, overall goal there is fat loss and some muscle growth and strength. I want to be able to bench 100kg+ to at least 8RM

    4) Plan my weekly diet in advance as suggested by John Barardi's book and ONLY buy food for this - no wastage and no temptation.

    5) I will spoil myself a little maybe once every six weeks or so, but that won't mean eating 10,000 kcal in one sitting or anything!

    6) I would like to get a really defined six pack, even if its temporary - may attempt a cutting diet once I'm coming close to 10-12% body fat - will have to see how that works out when my fitness reaches those levels.

I know I'll probably fall off the wagon now and again but as long as I keep focused and get right back on it, this time next year...there'll be a new addition to the before and after tread!

I wanna look good naked, there I said it! :p

My goal for the next year is to stay injury free.

In 2007 I had a bad tear in my hamstring, a broken hand, chipped elbow bone and dislocated jaw.

I'll be more than happy with a consistant run of training, because I know I can progress if I stay injury free.

Oh, to break 100kg on bench and 150kg on Squat would be a bonus.

    1. Complete the half-Connemarathon in April
    2. If I enjoy the training, I'll consider a full marathon around August/ Sept in a foreign country. The holiday aspect should help with motivation.
    3. Drop body fat and maintain my weight under 9st
    4. Be more moderate. I leap into everything and burn out quickly. This year I want to train three times a week for a full year, rather than six times a week for a month before giving up. Or I stick to a low-cal diet for a week, and then the deprivation drives me to a binge. In 2008, I want to be able to stop after two biscuits rather than eating a whole packet :o

1: Stick to training plans :D
    2: Drop BF% by a lot
3: Have pictures to post up here every three months to be proud of
    4: 5km in under 20 minutes
5: Deadlift twice my bodyweight whatever that may be

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 377 ✭✭Irjudge1

Overall to improve my fitness level and diet but specifically to lose 2 stone at a rate of 1/2 stone a month.

I will train in the mornings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with an afternoon session on Saturdays.

I will log my progress on Boards on at least a weekly basis.

I will cut out eating crap in the evenings when I get home from work.

    I will be positive.:D

To actually get a proper diet plan in operation...buying food is insanely hard to do, You go in and you hit a blank then there is making it.

The thing is I never eat take away, I don't drink coke, sweets(well just for the week of christmas) and I don't drink but foods I like are like loads of noodles...with chicket fillets and veg..its like my diet.

Get back playing football....its been too long.

dropping weigh by 4 or 5 stone by july

posting up a video of progress on youtube ( yes i know ) but if ur doing good then you'll get best wishes and inspiration

allround positive mentality and good weight loss

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,144 ✭✭✭Bally8

Every year I start off with the plan to lose about 2 stone and keep it off. I tend to achieve the first part by summer and then allow the weight to creep back on by Christmas. So this year I again aim to lose 2 stone but by making gradual little improvements to my lifestyle instead of joining weight watchers.

I hope to run the same five 10k races I ran last year and beat each time I set. I also hope to be ready to run my first half marathon by the mooathon next september

    Strength Goals

I'm just gonna hang onto my strength goals from 2007. I knew from the start that they were long term goals so this year I plan to just continue chipping away at them. For the record, they are a 120kg deadlift, a 105kg squat and a 50kg bench.

    Weight Goals

To get back down to 60kg - I weighed 63kg this morning (damn Christmas) so I basically want to get back down to my 'normal' weight. I'll probably aim to do this over 6 - 7 weeks, I'm in no rush like. Then at some stage, I'd like to go down to 58kg. If I was ever to compete, this is the weight class I'd be shooting for. I just want to see if there's any strength loss and if so, just how much and also if such a weight is maintainable.

I've already been keeping a journal in the fitness logs so I'll just continue logging my strength progress there with a weekly update on the weight thing.

Having achieved my 2007 target to get off the couch, lose weight and get fit, my 2008 targets are :

    1) Take part in at least the qualifying number of Leinster League (Trail running) races.
    2) Follow a structured training plan and enter at least the Blackrock and Dunmore East triathlons.
    3) Re-run the 5K races I did in 2007 and absolutely thrash my 2007 times.

Track & log training and diet properly and consistently (boards.ie as good a place as any)

    Targets:
Run: 1x10 mile by end Feb
Road Cycle: 1x170 mile by end Sep

Well mid October I was 16st 8lb according to scales so wanted to get down to 15st by Jan 1. As of today I'm 15st 1lb, so close.

I think my goal for 2008 is to continue with the weight loss, want to get down to 12st 8lb. Would like to think I can drop another stone by April 1, but we will see, if I can carry on working out and eating better for 2008, I'll be happy.

    1) GET FAT
Since everyone seems to be determined to lose weight, I want to put some on. This is the look I'm going for http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/0/03/Ab83.jpg

    Other than that...

    2) Open with a national record on the bench, European record on my second attempt, and then for the third take the 100kg Junior Bench World Record

    3) 700+kg total (maybe 700 in June and 700+ in November if all goes to plan)

    4) Get ripped at some point in the year. Aiming for single digit bodyfat %, which probably means around 90kg (the plan is to diet down after the national champs. If all goes well I'll hit 90ish kg in 10 weeks, and yes I will be doing cardio!! So around the first week of April I'll be there I hope.) After that it's a 10 week build up to the European champs. This goal is dependant on how much strength the weight loss causes, if I can at least maintain my strength then I'll probably stay the course.

    1. Stop Smoking
    2. Give up drinking for at least two months
    3. Drop at least a stone maybe two and tone up
    4. Try and get "fit"
    5. Play more golf and take up tennis again
    6. After a really tough year for me (won't go into it here) do things to make me happy again

I hope to start using the fitness logs here so I hope I can achieve my goals!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,730 ✭✭✭✭entropi

Erm...firstly i'll have to start saving and join a gym, then the work can begin.

Strength and Definition: would like to improve both muscular size and strength in chest, arms, back and legs. Can improve core strength using pilates and exercises.

Nutrition: Need to sort out a proper diet, eating whole foods and cutting out alot of the bread and pasta i currently eat, getting more protein and good fats into me, although i need to look through the sticky about nutrition here on boards about doing that. Especially since i'm a very picky eater and don't eat many foods.

In General: Completing my course in exercise, fitness and nutrition. Getting my OCR and ITEC qualifications and Irish Water Safety cert (passed my first aid one 2 weeks ago) and maybe, just maybe getting myself to one or more boards beers during the year...i really need to get out more:(

    1) Stop smoking (again)
    2) Sort out my diet cause its terrible
    3) Try to go to the gym at least once a week while working nights cause it's really ruining any progress made.

Before end April 2008 - reduce bodyfat and build muscle to the extent that I look like this guy http://images.google.ie/imgres?imgurl=http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/mgm/casino_royale/daniel_craig/royale17.jpg&imgrefurl=http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808476050/photo/970416674&h=400&w=330&sz=27&hl=en&start=2&tbnid=9EXSMLzPqK8zFM:&tbnh=124&tbnw=102&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddaniel%2Bcraig%26gbv%3D2%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG :) I think I have about 2 more inches off my waist to go as of today.

Continue to build strength and fitness - want to be able to bench 100kg by end April 2008.

1 - Run the mini marathon, preferably within 60 minutes.

    2 - Improve core strength.

3 - Get my kenpo brown belt.

    4 - Take boxing lessons.

Its tough going, but ye did it before so no doubt you can do it again, just get back on the wagon if ye fall off it!

    My news years resoultions

    1.Jog the womens mini marathon
2.Do this gradually by adding two mins onto treadmill time every 2-3 weeks.
3.Decrease body fat and increase muscle mass ,not by much just to get down to healthy level on the chart for my age.
4.Maintain body size at 10-12 ,no mor no less.
    5.To eat a better vegetarin diet .
6.Never to give up when i fail at all the above ,which will happen because throughout the year its natural to expirence setbacks.

    Lose about a stone.

Get fitter and stronger. Build muscle.

    And so it begins!

My goal for 2007 was to loose about a stone and lean up and I did that so hopefully it can continue.

    1. Get **** strong and fit
    2. Ultimately from that look better
    3. Get back to boxing and get a lot better at climbing a well
4 There are a few other bits as well but they will fall as we go

Youve been going for 3 months?! Fairplay! Jesus, thats freakin class, well done!

Id like to get a sub 4;30 1500m, and a 10k at around 37-38 minutes.

And to anyone thiking of joining a gym, DONT!!!! It is not worth it, because only a fraction of people are going to use it for the full year. Go out and run for an hour 2 or 3 times a week. If you can stay at this, start thinking about joining a gym.

My goal for 2007 was to get back into some sort of shape and build strength, rather than lose weight.
I would have liked to lose more weight than I did, from June to December I went from 101kg to 97kg, but I went from a 60kg bench up to 100kg in October, so a lot of it was muscle (I hope)
A niggling foot injury curtailed any running or football in the second half of the year, so I'm going to get back into that.
I have a wedding to go to in Philadelphia in Setember, and the plan is for the groom party to do the "Rocky Run" - not just the steps, the whole run - if I'm down to 90kg and complete it, I'll be happy
Strengthwise, I'm doing a 100kg squat, so improve on that, 150kg would be perfect

Maintain the progress I've been making in the past six weeks or so. Improve all the major lifts: Bench, Squat and Deadlift - which I should do if I continue working hard the way I am.

Oh, and teach myself to play the guitar!...... which reminds me, I need to buy a guitar! :)

    1) Increase my core strength
    2) Get bench back to 120kg
    3) Build up legs
    4) Get back upto running 10k
    5) Sort the diet out
    6) Stop the beer
    7) Get into the Green money wise!!!

Hmmmm where do I start ???
    Ok

1: Bring my bf below 8%

3: Move out of home , preferably to another country

    4: Get an E.C licence

5: Start to get HUGE (see example below)

2007 has been a good year for me fitness wise, but 2008 has to be great! (rhyme-tastic)

    Goals:

    1) Drop about 10 pounds gained over December period to get back under 12st
    2) Go from 60kg to 100kg bench
    3) Incorporate squats & deadlifts into routine
    4) Run in BUPA 10k in April
    5) Keep a fitness log on boards (coming soon to a board near you)

    Now to get to work!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

1: Get up to 130kg bench.
2: Stop neglecting my back/shoulders so much
3: get rid of this fat I've piled on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,031 ✭✭✭Cravez

I’ll either join Pinnacle!! or Image...... blah!

I think i emphasised what i think you should go for :D, seriously it would be great to have someone like yourself in Pinnacle. Some of the boardsies (including myself) are members there.

Sure while im here, my goals for 2008 are:
    - Reach 230lbs and then i might decide go on my first ever lean out/cut to single digits bodyfat then work my way back up to 230lbs+
    - Bench 130kg, Squat 180kg, Deadlift 250kg all raw
    - Chins/Pull-ups for reps +50kg
    - Powerclean 125-130kg & maybe power snatch 100kg
    - Increase mobility&flexibility while trying to reduce injury risk
    - Work on weak areas of my physique more such as shoulders, tri's and legs
    - Get a bit more cardio in, probably in the form of boxing or martial arts.

Basically I'm really pissed off right now. Christmas went bad for me I had a full-blown flu and still trying to shake the tail-end of it off. I got no training as such done over xmas (I intended on doing loads) and feel I lost 5-6lbs from not eating (no appetite).
This intense rage that I have within me has given me huge motivation to start this new year with a bang. Maybe it's a good thing I got a flu.
Up to May-June are going to be the most intense few months of my life with my Engineering degree coming to a close but I ****ing guarantee I won't let it stop my gains in the gym.

    Socially:
Be a NICER person. Stop HITTING people. Drink a lot LESS. I will try and keep it to special occasions and if I do go out I'll drink bottles not pints. Not going to drink until the engineering ball at end of Jan.
I have to do this for other reasons too. I don't feel at all healthy as of late and it's because I'm badly hungover on a regular basis.

    College:
Finish up with at least a 2.1 - hopefully, fingers crossed.

    Training:
Start doing way more ab and lower back assistance exercises. I been doing them over xmas and feeling way healthier in the lower back department.
Start back deadlifting, back is nearly 100%
HAVE TO BREAK 150KG BENCH BY JUNE. I can definitely do this. 20kg increase in 5 months? C'mon baby.
I don't really know where I am with my squat and deadlifts because of back trouble. But I'm going to throw a number of 200kg for squat and dead down here right now. This way I can't back out or I'll look like a pussy.

    Short-term weight goals:
    Gain bodyweight and modda****ing size.
I lost 4-5lbs over xmas so I'm going down to about 14st5lbs. 3 weeks to the Engineering ball. I'm gonna eat my ****ing hat if I'm not back up past 15 stone by then. Piggery.

ARGGHHH, can you feel my anger??? I'm going to try and make this year count, peeps...

p.s. I want to apologise to everybody I've abused on these boards over the last year. I've been an angry wanker. I want to apologise to Dragan and G'em especially as I've been a handful. I'll do my best to be nicer this year. Happy new year all and best of luck with these resolutions!

    Jay P,
If you run sub 4.30 for 1500m you'll smash 37-38for 10k, I'd say you'd easily do 35-36. Check out the running calculator on www.mcmillanrunning.com to predict your 10k time from your 1500m time. That's serious speed - use it!

    Goals as follows for '08:

    1: Keep BF c. 8%
2: Add a further 5kg of muscle (will bring me to 75kg, 5'7")
3: Stop eating rubbish- like others, time and effort/ lifestyle thing
4: Modest aim- want to be able to comfortably swim 500 metres, so work on swimming, so I am more comfortable in open water, leading to
5: Surf more- beat my buddies in annual comp!

    By 2009, I want to:

    1. Reach 14st (currently 12st 9lbs)
    2. Keep BF below 13% or so
    3. Diet CONSISTANTLY (my biggest downfall)
    4. Benchpress 100kg, Deadlift 100kg, Squat 100kg (might be totally off with those!)

As just posted on my log, here are my aims for the coming year:

    Strength
    • Bench Press 100kg ... current 80kg max 1 rep
    • Squat 100kg ... current 80kg max 1 rep.. with extra bad form
    • Deadlift 150kg ... current 115kg max 1 rep

    Cardio
    • Run 10km in 45mins ... currently around 57 or 58 mins I'd say. Only did this once so far off a threadmill in the London Tri in Aug 2007
    • Run 5km in 22mins ... currently managed 1 or 2 sub 24 mins
    • Swim 750 metres in sub 15 mins, all front crawl ... currently it takes me about 20 mins alternating front crawl and breast stroke every 100 metres

    Weight
    • Maintain approx 70kg ... whilst getting stronger and faster as outlined above through weights and triathlon training
Get to single digit bodyfat ... not sure what it is now, perhaps 12 - 14%

    Triathlon Targets
    • Complete an Olympic distance triathlon in sub 2 hrs 45 mins ... last year I managed 3 hrs 3 mins for the London one
    • Complete a Sprint distance triathlon in sub 1 hr 22 mins ... best so far is around 1 hr 26 mins

So I weighted myself this morning --> 70.5kg. I was expecting my weight to have gone up over xmas not down from the 71kg 10 days ago.

My electronic handheld cheap gadget gives me the following readings:
    • 21.1% something
    • 24.4% BMI

I have had to think of realistic targets for this year.

Move gym from bedroom to shed (can start deadlifting again then)

Watch every bit of food that enters my mouth and know why I am putting it there. I am undereating for the last few days and i know its doing me no favours so I need that bit of organisation that i had pre xmas

Start squatting again (I hate squats but know how good they are for me so I really have to just get off my arse and go outside my comfort zone)

The above are general goals for 2008

    Being a bit more specific
Get 1RM bench to 1.25 x my bodyweight which is a target of 100kg (current best is 80kg)
Improve squat form and get 1RM squat of 1.5 x my body weight which is a target of 120kg (current best, I have no idea but i have squatted 97kg for 5) Have not squat in a while though so this is a reasonable goal I feel
Now that I will be back in the shed I can deadlift again so I want to get to a 1RM of 2 x my bodyweight which is a target of 160kg (current best 120kg)

It would be great if I achieved all these goals but I'll have fun on the journey anyway

Oh and another is to measure my bodyfat% as i have no clue what it is at the moment. I am leaner than I was 10 weeks ago but have no hard figures and its just kidding myself unless I take note of actual gains

The hubby is dead set on giving up coke (not the drink),his daily 5 cans of devils bit, 60 benson n hedges, and fried mars bars. I hope he sticks to it, hes all smiles now but last year he was down the local barracks by january 12th after attacking a neighbour over littering. Fingers crossed
