Was talkin to a mate about this the other day, the way society has changed so much and its ok to say you like Star Wars, that you post on the internet and you like comic books (that get made into cool films) Therefore what was nerdy 15 years ago, is longer nerdy now.

So it got us thinking, what is nerdiest thing you have seen on boards.ie? A particular forum or thread or post? Answers like "the whole of the "x" forum wont wash as per my first paragraph. To me, it has to be this thread:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054996000

I like transformers but even this one made me go, whoa there ted!!!

Then the flip side, what is the coolest thing? Obviously SSF etc is cool, but im more referring to a thread or post. What do you think? I always thought the "Boner Wednesday" thread in BGRH was pretty cool, although i dont know if it can count is being cool?

For me, nerdiest and coolest are interchangeable, so my joint nomination is

ye, its funny how many people where wrong about that one, some peoples minds are so... i dont know what word to describe them, allot of people are very sheapish though but thats not a good word to describe this.

The nerdiest and coolest thing for me was probably those old style groups that where an extension of outlook, where you used to have to download episodes in like 40 segments because all we had then if you where lucky was a 33k maybe 56k but with eircom it would

it would never go that fast.

EDIT: Actually a year or so ago i sa wa very funny picture of someone dressed up in a orginal cylon outfit, standing at the side of the road with a cardboard sign that read "Replaced by CGI please help"

I think the coolest and nerdiest thing I have seen here was when Anti and a couple of others built a working PC and encased it in cardboard.

actually i did see a pc with no case once, all the difference parts where attached to the underside of a desk so you could not even see the pc, i dont know much about tech but one would assume it would be prone to dust or hitting your kneww off your exposed motherbord or something

the nerdiest thing is people listing the spec of their computers in their signature. and there is nothing cool here if we're all honest about it.

Someone thread where they were talking about burning DVD's and someone suggested using a toaster.
Then someone else posted a link to a toaster that had a DVD writer in it.

thanks to boards i remember seeing one of these...

    http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/looflirpa/igrill.shtml

what's great though is the description.

Running late at work? Need to get dinner on the table? It is easy to warm up the iGrill from any internet connection. With a little advance planning, your meal can be ready when you get home!

The nerdiest probably has to be that thread on the events forum where everyone started speaking in binary. It eventually moved on to hex and octal as well. Everyone was using an on-line translator apart from one person who was doing it themselves (or so she claimed). She thought we were all fluent in binary. 'Twas pretty funny.

    Here's the thread.

Much thanks to feylya for starting the binary thing off.

I didn't even notice that. I wish I hadn't taken a mouthful of tea before reading that post. It ended up all over my laptop. Ah well, at least it will cover some of the semen stains.
