Kylie’s OBE recognises her fightback from cancer which inspired millions of her fans around the world and there’s an OBE for broadcasting veteran Des Lynam for services to sport.

Yes, but now that she's battled Cancer it's apparently no longer acceptable to point out what a mediocre singer she is. Those who are cynical might suggest that she's used her illness to reinstate her career.

She is the British Madonna, despite not being British, not being able to sing and not being able to act... oh wait, she is the British Madonna.

I would, even though Mike Huthence has been there too

... perhaps i should also have mentioned that she managed to fight Cancer because unlike many pople she can afford the best treatment available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

She really is a very average singer. And if her award had anything to do with her fight against cancer, then they should give it to the millions of other people who have done the same.

    She is pretty hot.
Does that not count for anything anymore? :(

I love Kylie!I think she's a brilliant singer. I was at her concert at the Point 3 years ago, and it was fantastic. The audience consisted of mothers and young daughters, twenty and thirty- something women, gay men getting up close to the stage to ogle the very fit male dancers and straight men hogging the stage to ogle her. The only reluctant ones were the husbands and boyfriends - hoping they wouldn't bump into anybody they knew!
She appeals to a very wide range of people.
And it annoys me when people say she was able to afford the best treatment available. My parents were both diagnosed with advanced cancer within a few days of each other, and we would have sold everything we had to help cure them, but nothing could be done for them. If cancer is caught on time, you can be treated. If not, you can't. It doesn't matter how much money you have.

You can't beat plastic surgery. Plastic is what she's all about.

I'm genuinely sorry for your loss kelle. It wasn't my intention to cause you offense.
I'm sticking by my comment however.

It actually helped that it was in France she had her treatment. Cancer services in Ireland are appalling. Here, it doesn't make a difference whether you're private or public - Mum was private and Dad was public, both were treated exactly the same way with the exact same waiting times (i.e. too long).
Anyway, to keep on topic I am so pleased Kylie won her battle and is back wowing us with yet another fantastic CD (my Christmas pressie from hubby!)

C'mon people, it's just an OBE that she's getting not a Nobel Prize. Who cares whether she deserves it or not, it's a nothing award.

Surely those straight men were the husbands and boyfriends? I couldn't imagine too many straight men going to a Kylie concert of their own free will.

always thought she looked like a Chernobyl baby in a wig myself (and that was before the cancer mind you, now it's a tasteless thing to say about her apparently but meh...)

    meh to the whole thing...

Wow, a person who has never been elected by anybody, has never had to do a tap in their life, and is well looked after by her "subjects", has decided to bestow an "honour" on a woman who has worked hard for the past twenty years to establish herself as an internationally recognised and popular pop artist...let me get excited over that one

I don't think that's entirely accurate. The Queen does a great deal of work, and she had no choice on the matter. She no doubt works very hard in the service of her realm.

I personally have no time for the queen (oh no, not lower case letters ) or the royal family or any title they decide to award to anybody! So in my eyes Kylie is Kylie, OBE or not, and Alex Ferguson is Alex Ferguson...not gonna catch me puttin anythin in front of his name!

Nothing - for an OBE it just means you can put it after your name, so she will be Kylie Minogue OBE.

I have a lot of time for Kylie.
    1) She's hot
    2) She has the same birthday as me
    3) Wish I looked that good 2yrs ago
    4) She is hot
    5) She has done *some* good songs. (slow, outta my head, breathe, chocolate)
    6) I touched her ass at Madame Tusauds!
    7) She is having a big birthday bash this year as she is 40 (no invite for me though :( )
    8) She battled and overcame breast cancer
    9) She is an inspiration for all women who have/had cancer
    10) Did I say she was hot?

But I must admit her last single was a bit s**t!
    Just my 2c

such vitriol is to be commended in these apathetic times. It is a good thing that people have such strong opinions as it leads to a more vibrant society. Even when the opinion is so very very wrong.

Thanks Beano but we both know without Madonna Kylie wouldnt still be here.Madonna done it her way but kylie was/is a puppet

Whilst I'm not into Kylie music (or Madonna's for that matter), I think that her services to music would be that she's not out of her tree on drugs, not fighting like a washer-woman, and is seen as a better role-model as a result.

Which one are you talking about Kylies "services to music are them gold hot pants and nothing else she doesnt seem to have an charisma"

I'm talking about the possible reasons for Kylie getting an award. Perhaps they couldn't find anyone else who wasn't a dodgy drug-crazed loon, so gave it to her.:D

Admittedly, the gold hot-pants helped her career, but I wouldn't like to see Amy Cokehouse wearing them.

I'd lick her bum, give her whatever she wants.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,041 ✭✭✭shoegirl

I am amused. Much as I enjoy Kylie, cannot say it deserves such an award. Then again the award has already gone to plenty of far less deserving persons.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 954 ✭✭✭marti101

I agree shes alright but she doesnt deserve ana ward there are more deserving people out there.Since shes overcome cancer its like you cant say anything about her as people say leave her alone shes overcome cancer.Even on the news when she collected the award the news was only interested in her and she loved hogging the lomelight, nobody else got a look in.I say send her and her even less talentless sister[if thats possible]home to Oz.Whats Dannii doing on X factor she hasnt had a hit in years. She doesnt know what shes talking about.
