Toilet seat

I am curious as to what the ladies deem as appropriate toilet seat etiquette.

Do you prefer the toilet seat up or down? And to go further into this issue (with regards to fancy seats that also have lids), do you prefer the toilet seat down/lid up, seat down/lid down - or seat up/lid up?

I used to adhere to my mother and sisters wishes to always put the toilet seat down as they had to 'touch the seat all the time' and then I realised that I had to touch the seat also, so equality was not being served.. This isn't meant as a troll, I am quite curious as to how many women feel about this.

I live with two guys, and i hate using the bathroom after them. Seat is always up! But In all fairness there are more of them than me, so i should probably leave it up after me.

But Lid up seat down would be my preference. Also wiping the seat after themselves, as you probably well know boys then to not have the best aim some times!

    simple rule of thumb:

    never poo on the seat/lid.

If I didn't know Gordon better I'd say he was trolling here.

    Must be a "slow-ban" day.

This has been done to death.

    ;)

Yeh think there was a poll or something on this before.
If you live majority boys, leave seat up
If you live majority girls, leave seat down

I however, put down lid when I'm done.

Oh sorry, I did a search and didn't see one.

Don't worry - it took time out of my work day - and considering I've zero motivation to work, tis a good thing! lol.

random notice - when I went to the bathroom here in work, the cleaning ladies leave both lid and seat up after cleaning. Although, I do that when I clean our bathroom at home, hmmmm

That's a reasonable compromise, cus it means everyone has to touch it.

Still, if it's not up when I get there there's a chance it's getting wet.;)

To be honest I prefer if fellas leave the seat UP, at least then there's a slim chance of me going to the bathroom after them and finding their aim wasn't so good.. Absolutely disgusting.

Any house where men live should really have a urinal (and the men should clean it).

Don't think that link works FlutterinBantam - but it's probably the one I read before.
Think it's gonna be a long day!

I don't really mind what way you leave the seat, as long as there'r no wees on it.

I was working and therefore sharing a toilet with a number of "Eastern europeans" during the summer.

Not only did they always leave the toilet seat down and wiped, but even though the place was only cleaned once a week, it never smelled of wee.
Apparently they aim in the actual bowl :D
I was trying to explain that people get divorceed over these thing in Ireand....they wouldn't believe me.

I've noticed lately with in a few girls places they have a mirror perched on top of the toilet cistern... what's the deal with that? I find it disconcerting as it means I can see my willy when I'm going for a wee and it frightens me greatly.

I aim good except after happy time with a significant other, then it has a mind of its own, seems like it could possibly shoot over my shoulder on to the ground behind me.

I am curious as to what the ladies deem as appropriate toilet seat etiquette.

I think it depends on the woman and what she's accustomed to. My father insisted that we always leave the toilet seat up so he wouldn't "get it wet" in the middle of the night, or if he had to rush in there. As a result, I instinctively still look to put it down for my own use and put it back up when I'm done. You see, after living so many years with my Dad, I had a husband who liked it that way. Then when I was single, I had a son to raise and it was just more convenient. So, here I am, 41 and still putting the toilet seat up after I use it even though I haven't been married for 24 years, and I've been living by myself for 2+ years.

Seat Down, Lid Down. It's a toilet not a vase to display thing in :D

I found this ended all our arguments, i can lift both if i want and herself can lift the lid if she wants, all in the name of equality of course.

And of course the fact that if you don't put the lid down when you flush you send a spray of s**t everywhere so i think Lid down is the best for everyone.

When I was a kid my sister (she was probably aged 6 or 7) actually fell into the toilet because I left the seat up. She sat down and just slipped in. Her legs were sticking straight up in the air and she was wedged tight.

Ever since then I've always pit the seat down after use. The best solution, as another poster has stated, is to get a urinal in your bathroom - then the seat on the bowl stays down from everyone.

Myself and my mum were the only females in a house of boys and the rule was...... it doesn't matter whether the seat or lid was up or down so long as you hit the target. Wet bums and/or wet feet were not an option in our house.

It was not unknown for my mum to lug the last male user back down to the bathroom to clean up after themselves. They soon learned :D

The simplest solution to this problem is for women to invent a toilet and seat of their own instead of using our male innovation. In the meantime they can go outside in the bushes like they used to.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,239 ✭✭✭✭WindSock

How do you know a man invented the toilet? Why is that a simple solution, there's nothing wrong with the toilet as it is. The simplest solution is to just not piss on the seat, or wipe it if you do.

    Simple:eek: Thats not simple!!!.

    Because;
    a) women have never invented anything useful
    and
    b) The history of the toilet and how it came to be is well known.

The simplest solution would be for women to shut up moaning but that isn't going to happen is it? They should go outside and get some manners before trying to lay down the law about our inventions :D

My brothers cat managed to use the toilet ok one time when it was left on it's own for a few days but the person who was going round to leave out it's food didn't know where the litter tray was so ended up closing the door to that part of the house.

If you are reffering to Thomas Crapper, I believe he may or may not have been responsable for the flusher system.

There's an even simpler solution and that is for you to have some manners when you come on to this forum and not insult women.

AFAIK this will not stop them bitching and moaning about toilet seats :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,239 ✭✭✭✭WindSock

Yes I'm referring to him and all the other men involved.

Toilets have been around for a terribly long time. One person and gender are not directly responsible for the way we use them today. They have evolved over the years to suit our needs with their purpose.

AFAIK this will not stop them bitching and moaning about toilet seats :D

AFAIK this may be, I personally have never heard anyone complain about the seat being left up, it's just a consideration for other users (be they male or female) to not leave piss on the seat or scud in the bowl.
If you have come on here to have a bash about women, then may I suggest you do it on one of the many other appropriate fora.

You actually believe this? What other great inventions do you consider to have been a joint effort? Last time I looked women seemed to have spent our entire history making babies while we did all the real work.

I've heard women moan about the seat being left up on a fairly regular basis but not even once have I heard a man do the same about it being left down.

I'm not having a bash at women I'm just stating the case from the opposite side but naturally enough some women will take this as an opportunity play the victim.

Your discussion about the origins of toilets and their ettiquette is welcome here, but when you want to have a moan about women, please take it elsewhere. This is not the place for it. Final warning.

Do you not consider making babies "real work"? If we didn't go around maknig babies you'd have no-one to use your precious toilets.
