Haven't heard anything, though it wouldn't surprise me, all the area to the side of it has been turned into apartments already. Shame if it's true, it was a good gym for lifting when I used to train there

dont think malahide rd would be sold as they refubished quite recently and its also very close to the shopping centre but it would make more sence if the rumour switched to their castlenock branch as the building itself is sitting on a very large site(massive car park)and in a prime area also their making a new entrance to connolly hospital which is right next door

    not any more :(
they've closed the weights room and moved (squashed!) the free weights up beside where the abs floor was. it's a nightmare,
according to the staff the weights room isn't opening again.

Thats how it was originally. But then it originally it was managed by people who knew about training.

The free weights were up stairs and there was a properly laid out circuit weight training section.

Then the free weights were moved downstairs, and some lovely hammerstrenght machines installed upstairs, madness. Plus at the same time the circuit weight training 'circuit' was moved, this all came about at the time the gym's original managers left.

Also at this time the gym started to go downhill rapidly, new rules were brought in, hardcore lifting was frowned upon, the manageress (can't remember the wagon's name otherwise I'd name her here) banned a high profile/well respected bodybuilder for something really silly.

She lost the confidence of the guys spending money year in, year out there and a lot left to train in other gyms.

Basically the place went to sh*t.

TotalFitness has had its hey day, if it closes, good ridence I say.

^^^ That's crap alright. I remember there were a few competitive BB'ers there, when the weights were downstairs it was a good atmosphere. Of course I was a complete stick then but it was still good to be there with them lol.

RIP TF Malahide Road by the sounds of it.

    :(

anybody recommend a decent one nearby - i'm from swords - i don't like jackie skelly* in swords and while image looks good and is cheaply priced the opening hours don't suit,
I like to train on sat / sun afternoon - evening.

alsaa's hours rock but the gym is basic......

*the reason i dislike jackie skelly is I was stupid enough to take their "free" day pass and use it - and despite me saying that i wasn't interested in joining a girl (same girl) rang me 4 times to see if I was interested in joining.

Sounds like they're trying to scare away the bigger lifters. I really think there is a market for a proper hardcore gym in the city that's open to the public at large.

You would be surprised at the amount of big lads who come into my gym and ask about swimming/hydrotherapy pools and also comment that there is "no pussy to look at" and join carlisle instead... The truly dedicated are few and far between.

Yeah I train in the one in Blanch/castleknock and they still have big weights in the normal free weights room. I hope they don't decide to do that in all of them, that'd be just a bit crap!!

Is that why I'm getting hit on more and why there were 30 odd massive guys in the jacuzzi today? :( God damn it.

Seem's the problems with TF (Malahide rd) and serious lifters are getting worse.

Talking to a lad tonight who told me that after protesting the free weights issue he was refunded his membership fee and banned from the gym.

There's also been some kind of membership petition sent to the management protesting issue's surrounding the free weights and general dis-repair of the gym.

interesting as I posted them a scathing letter in the post yesterday - i guess I'll be banned so....hmmmm

i never saw that petition is it on public view?
i know a petition was sent around 9 months ago about w'end opening hours.
now they've starting closing an hour earlier.

Total Fitness is a joke of a gym. They've been banning people for years out of some kind of bizarre mix of self-righteousness and snobbery. If you don't want bodybuilders hanging about then the gym business is hardly the one to be in I would have thought!

There seems to be this pathetic assumption that guys with big muscles are all juiced-up perverts who want to murder regular gym users. "Boo hoo, they're intimidating me"

Why is there such a difference between TF on the malahide road and TF in Blanchardstown?

Usually I train in TF malahide road and have found nothing but people complaining and who can blame them. The weights room move is just a disaster, you hardly ever see a member of staff helping someone out and a lot of the machines are always out of order.

Over the christmas period I started training in TF blanchardstown because it was easier to get to for me over the christmas period. Anyway I noticed huge differences firstly they have a big weight room (similar to the one that use to be in TF malahide road but bigger), there seemed to members of staff always on the floor helping people, and even though there were one or two machines out of order most were working. In addition to there is seems to be loads of space and lots of cardio machines throughout the gym.

I cant understand if they are owned by the same company why the difference in the two gyms? Is this just down to the management in one gym being better than the other?

Unfortunately now that christmas is over and I am back in work I will have to use TF on the malahide road during the week but at least I can use TF in blanch at the weekends.
