Pec implants etc- do they actually do anything?

I was shocked to read in my local newspaper a couple of weeks ago about the huge increase in men who were going to the cosmetic surgery, especially pectoral implants and surgery to their arms.
Does this actually have any effect on their strenght and performance whatsoever?

Now, I have read the charter and am not seeking medical advice. I figured this would be the best place to ask as opposed to a medical forum or surgery as it has to do with the fitness aspects. I am not seeking to, or having any thoughts on getting such surgery. This is pure curiosity.

If a man gets pec implants or surgery to his arms, will he gain any benifits whatsoever in strength or performance, or will he still be exactly the same but just look better?

For the record, I'm perfectly happy with my body and exercise regime and would never consider cosmetic surgery for purely aesthetic reasons.

I doubt it, at least not for a long time, but I'm only guessing.

Better in who's eyes? His I guess.

The only gains from doing something as ridiculous as this would be purely aesthetic, although even that is debatable.

You would gain absolutely no gains in strength or flexibility, which is obvious really when you consider that it's only pieces of plastic being inserted into your body.

I didn't say that to have go at you, I really meant that he's only doing it to please himself really. I don't think it would make much difference to anyone else. (If you know what I mean. Not sure I do now.) ;)

    Time for bed.

    Night.

The only thing it would achieve would be making the area look more "bulky". If you're still a lard ass you'll just be a lard ass with a bigger chest and arms.

The thougth disgusts me to be honest.

Aye, me too... I'd much prefer to work on chest and arms and see the improvements, rather than get cut up and have lumps of plastic popped in. Hell, it feels more rewarding too!

Apparently that guy Simon Cowell has implants. Bit of a stupid vain idea.

I seen some pics in bizarre of some "bodybuilder " who went to thailand to get pec implants done and they just use normal female ones, looked well stupid

Why not just get breast implants? More fun!

I only heard about this sort of cosmetic surgery about a year ago for real. It was about a guy getting calf implants. I was fairly disgusted by it to be honest.

It could only have negative impact on performance. You weigh more and they would probably interfere with normal functioning. Cant see how an implant like that could improve performance.

Simon Cowell has them, he was meant to be athletic when younger. Also Peter Andre has them. For him it is aesthetic, he would not have sold as many records without them, in his first videos he just pranced around with his top off, so it is equivalent to just being a model really. They show lads in programs with them and they looked terrible, and they were pleased with them, it wasnt a "plastic surgery goes wrong" show. One said they were loose and could be pushed around, he looked like some lad into piercing or something, with weird plastic inserts under his skin, didnt look like he had a big chest.

On a recent program one young girl was saying "I want the boob job to be so big that it is obvious that they are fake". I can't get my head aroud that. Some women have a notion that men like large breasts, when most really like nicely shaped breasts. Most fakes like Pamela Anderson are simply bigger versions of a nice b-cup. They are just enlarged versions, they are not made to look like a natural D-cup, most of which are not that attractive when "unleashed".

No point in posting a pic of Greg Valentine to be honest. Synthol and implants are very different things, even if they are both pathetic.

I just see it as a sign of the times, instant gratification for now work. Don't get me wrong, i'm all about cosmetic surgery in the right circumstances......accident and injury and such. I can even understand women who get breast augmentation done, there is nothing they can really do to deal with breast issues.

A few months on the bench and some hard work will sort any pec problems though. It just makes me laugh to be honest.

I reckon if you're a lard ass and gonna go to the 'effort' of getting implants like that you'll go for a bit of lipo first...

In the current issue of MD Markus Ruil answered a guy tat was thinking of getting them , in his reply he mentioned that they never look real and I have to agree , if your going to try and beat nature there’s no point in doing something that is going to look fake , I would never consider implants , why waste the money on something fake

Did you see that happening to the queer on that MTV cosmetic surgery programme?

Calfs? Of all the places you don't need implants, that'd probably be top in my book...
