V-Fit?

    Hi All

    I was looking threw the argos catalogue and seen a V-Fit abdominus tummy trimmer for €38 just wondering along with a good diet could this help me to lose my beer belly as i fit it hard to do sit ups. Greatfull for any feedback you can give on this product.

    Short answer.. No.

    You need good exercise along with a good diet to get rid of the belly. The V-Fit will help tone the muscles but not burn the fat.

    Your diet is the single biggest factor in losing your belly. I'd also suggest a good pilates class to get you going, they'll teach you lots of ways to torture your core muscles without sit-ups.

    If you are going for a home gadget, then I'd recommend a swiss ball. They provide lots of back support for curls and crunches, and can be used to work your obliques and back muscles as well. You can use them for wall squats, hamstring work, calf raises and pikes. You can even use them for cardio: sit on it, grip it between your thighs and start bouncing round the place. I think they are 5-6 euro in Argus.

    Can breathing exercises also help, obviously in combination with exercise and diet, just something I thought I heard, I might have heard it in relation to a pot belly.

    There's an exercised called stomach vacuums where you suck in your belly as tight as possible (visualise smashing it up against your spine) and hold it like that for 30 seconds, breathing in the upper part of your chest only. Repeat a few times. Can be done anywhere, does tone up your belly, and even better, gives you practice at sucking it in when you need to.

    Get a chinning bar in argos for around €10-15. Do leg raises to work your abs, and chin ups & pull ups. Will do a hell of a lot more for you than that junk.

    Ha, was just thinking, if someone posted this on the crossfit message board - they'd get ripped to shreds (and not you'd want).

    Short answer - diet, cardio, exercise, repeat.

    A few lads i know, in DCU, did a project on this a while back - with the stomach toners vs. specific core and cardio workouts.

    Was done over a 4 month period.

    3 of the guys would get to the gym or swimming 3-4 days a week, eat well, work the core alot ... and the other 3 would continue their normal junk food diet and sit down looking at the TV with the stomach toner every night.

    The stomach toner lost :)

    Well Duh! (I've always wanted to say that!). Of course clean diet and exercise will win over junk food and a tv gadget every time. The original question was would a gadget help ALONG with clean diet.

    I'd certainly like to think that I eat clean and work out hard, but I've got to say that a course of Pilates classes did make a significant difference to the flatness of my belly.
