Ive never really noticed this FOTW thing before and i dont know why, could somebody give me the cliffnotes of what it is all about and the way it works? Much appreciated.

When it started, there would be a weekly nomination thread whereby the users picked their film of the week - whatever got the most votes won.

However, the system began to get abused when people started registering multiple accounts just to see "their" film win. So the whole thing got closed down for a while, and was recently re-structured.

Now, a poster is picked at random each week to decide Film of the Week.

Wow, that's pretty cool how a poster is picked at random now. How long has this been going on?

There have been 17 FOTW's picked by user choice and the ones previous to that where votes.

Who picks the poster and how?

Do you have to nominate yourself for a chance?

you dont ask and you dont nominate, somehow it just happens although it was never explained exectly how. Post count does not matter so one can assume Karl Hungus sends out a PM and if someone says no he sends one to someone else or if its a non active poster and he does not get a reply he sends another

I assume it's chosen from someone who has posted in Films in the past few weeks.

Ah well, my time will come so.

What has happened with this? The last film of the week in this thread (dead man's shoes) is from a month ago...?

It's over. Run it's course. This thread is still here out of posterity.

I don't know the reasons why FOTW was stopped in the first place but I don't think I'm alone in hoping it could somehow be revived.

When I first came across the list I was impressed with the suggestions made. Plus there was a few unknown to me which I have really enjoyed, and would have had little chance of coming across.

    Who's with me?

It was hugely popular when we were voting on film of the week but then died a death when fotw was just nominated by one person.I only browse this film forum occasionally but when we were voting on it,I was on this forum all week especially on Friday to see what film won fotw.I reckon it would take off again if we went back to voting on it.

As has been said before, the public vote basically led to a very slow duplication of the IMDB Top 250, with nods of agreement and thumbs up from everyone, and no discussion.

    I disagree,to name but a few;
Audition,Save The Green Planet,Zatoichi, all great films and not in the IMDB Top 250.

Of course there is going to be a reflection of the IMDB Top 250...

Just saw this, it is a great idea and i will definitely take a look in once a week to see what film is chosen.
