You can't wear a squat or dead suit, a bench shirt or briefs if you're planning on competiting raw.

You're gonna have to get a singlet for it. Hanley and Tribulus both got theirs online, I'm sure when tehy're on, they'll let you know where from.

Also, theres a few other bits that you're gonna have to make sure you have or you won't be allowed on the platfrom.

Knee high socks for the deads are an example, you won't be allowed even attempt the lift unless you have them.

Also you'll have to check in any belts, singlets, socks etc that you have the day before the comp...whatever you check in is ALL you're allowed to use on the platform.

Again, if you show on the platform in anything other then what you presented at the check-in you won't be allowed to lift in it.

liftinglarge.com is where I got most of my gear, they sell singlets too.

irongladiators.com and gometal.com do them too.

They all deliver in a week so whatever is cheapest I guess.

Might be a daft question, but why do competitors have to wear knee high socks, but no briefs?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,234 ✭✭✭Malteaser!

They're not normal briefs as in underwear...

They're like the bottom half of a squat suit...the wearer looks like they have a potato sack on...I'm sorry Trib and Ham but it really does ;)

    These kind of things... http://liftinglarge.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=12

There was talk at the Worlds of the WDFPF regarding boxer shorts as illegal for raw now aswell, that if they're snug and of a certain thickness they'll be considered extra leverage (or whatever the term is for equipment :o)

just remember with it being the christmas season there is going to be delays on all post as well as some days not being worked so be careful about delivery times

The nationals aren't until the very end of January so if he orders any time soon he'll be ok!

For the same reason you have to wear a t-shirt when you're squatting and benching...

To prevent possible infection/disease transmission thru blood.... Think about all the bloody shins ppl get deadlifting and how it all would end up on the bar if you weren't wearing knee high socks.

Well that's not exactly the reason I wear a t-shirt in the gym, but I did wonder about the socks thing...

As in underpants? That's such a joke. What's next "sorry sir your scrotum exceeds 2cm in thickness, you can't compete unless you agree to a castration"

If they actually made any difference at all then they should ban very tight fitting singlets as well, gggrrrr.

    From the WDFPF's rulebook:

    1. A standard commercial “athletic supporter,” or standard commercial under-briefs of any combination of cotton, nylon or polyester (but not swimming trunks or any other garment consisting or rubberized or similar stretch material except in the waistband) shall be worn under the lifting suit. The garment shall NOT have legs; the garment may NOT act as a girdle and may NOT be supportive or extend past the hips or navel.Power briefs are NOT permitted.

    image008.jpg

    2. Women may wear protective briefs or panties as long as they shall NOT be deemed supportive in any way. Women may also wear a bra as long as the bra cup does not maintain its shape when placed upright on a flat surface and does not contain any wire or supportive devices. The use of tampons, sanitary napkins or related articles used for feminine hygiene protection are permitted.

It looks like that rule is kinda in place already.

The rule might be stated, but according to a lot of the guys I was talking to was not in force. Meh, just passing on overheard info. Thanks for the correction

Umm, probably a dumb question, but how does one get bloody shins from squatting and DL-ing?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,635 ✭✭✭tribulus

From Dl'ing, you want to keep the bar as close to you as possible. If the bar gets out in front of you you'll either have a hard time locking out or you'll juts miss.

Ah yeah, I know that.. so just from scraping the bar? Weird, but I guess it'll happen to me at some stage!

I torn up my shins, dislocated and cut up my thumbs.....all kinds of bad stuff can happen to you when you DLing......hate to have to see someone walk up to a bloody bar after the competitor ahead of them tore the **** out of there shins.
