    Hello all ..

I used to buy those bags of frozen fruit smoothie mix from Tesco but they seem to have stopped stocking them (in Monaghan anyhow). I went to a local supermarket to get a smoothie, which cost €3.89 and when i saw their frozen fruit, it made me wonder if its possible to buy bulk frozen strawberries, raspberries, blueberries etc. that i could keep at home, or put into smaller sachets etc.

    thanks

My tesco now stock them with the icecream, used to be alongside the pizzas.

Tesco also do other brands, some are dear, some cheap, they had frozen raspberries cheap, check the price per kilo.

You could also make your own, tescos often sell off overripe bananas, you could peel & freeze them, riper the better I say, too ripe and they are mush- ideal for a smoothie, the more ripe they are the sweeter they are.

Whatever fruit the children don't finish, I chop up and put into the freezer. Any time a smoothie is required, I throw a handful of frozen fruit into the blender with milk or whey.

Xanthan gum (available from all health food shops) can be added to smoothies to thicken them up. Blend as normal, then sprinkle on about half a teaspoon and blend again for a minute. You'll hear it thickening. You can even make protein puddings that way.

    Thanks!
I bought a couple of packets of frozen strawberries ...€1.99 each, each pack does two smoothies, (along with a banana and some cranberry or apple juice) .. better value than €3.79 per smoothie! :)

I was in Dunnes today, and they had 400g of frozen summer fruits for 1.89.
