The burger place next to the Capitol does awesome burgers. Can't remember the name of the place, but easily the best in town for my money.

You want to sit down and eat it - TRIBES on Tuckey Street, they do the scrumiest burger, so big you almost get lock-jaw trying to get your mouth around it! Some burgers can only be eaten this way, it is "wrong" to cut them into dainty bite size pieces...................

My mother makes great home made burgers... :D

On the chipper front, i quite like the ones in Donatello's, quite tasty...

    Thats the Istanbul.

Half Pounder with cheese meal, no ketchup for me though, vile ****e. The staff there are top notch too, can always have a laugh be it at 3pm or 3am

Have to agree, Lennoxs Quarter Pounder with cheese...
Thinking of treating yourself for the birthday OP?

Heh, where does it say that? My birthday dinner ended up being a toastie in Reidy's Vault. 5 ****ing euros. Nah I'm a big burger fan, most of the ones I've had in town have been dry as ****. Best I've had so far is in the Franciscan Well. NYOM.

Hill Billys used to do a lovely breast 'n a bun. Don't like it as much anymore. The quarter ponder with cheese from Lennoxs is always a safe bet, great burger. 1/2 pounder from Donatellos isn't bad either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭shnaek

The White Horse in Ballincollig does a savage burger. Mmm tasty.

He's right, I had a breast in a bun for the first time in years a few weeks ago and they're completely different now, not as nice.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,106 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

I thought that the breast in a bun could only be properly enjoyed if you were trashed?

Aside from which, I worry about eating anything which can cause headlines like "Man found dead in shower after suffocating on own farts"...

Don't think I could touch one sober..

Hillbillies is such a horrible little disease hole too. When ****ed it seems like a 5star restaurant though.

Eww, my ex used knock back breast in a buns when he was hammered. Never really got over that:p The best burger in Cork...er....in the Well perhaps? Everything else is manky generic overcooked cardboard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭Kold

I agree. The Franciscan burgers have been some of the tastiest I've had.

Myself, Junkyard, Roundy Mooney, Mrs Roundy Mooney and little Round Mooney were having breakfast/lunch in Eddie Rockets today in Blackpool organising the Cork SSF deliveries. Mrs Roundy had quite possibly the most appetising chicken burger I've ever seen. It was the size of a small somalian. Highly recommended!

Indeed, and she dispatched it as quickly as one would...

    Pleasure meeting you, ned.

Likewise! Was a very enjoyable morning, will definitely try to make the next boards beers if I'm not gigging.

In a stupour last night had Hillbillies with my friends. Breast in a bun never tasted so good:D

I don't really think chicken burgers count. They're too different from regular burgers.

Good oul Hillbillies. That Tuesday special was my undoing - all I wanted was a snackbox, but then they give me another one for free, so I eat two snackboxes. There is a lot of chicken in their breast na buns, but I reckon I'd manage five or six easily enough.

The Hillbillies garlic breast in a bun has been reduced in size but increased in price...they know how to charge there but they have a high turnover in staff...obviously their not paying while coining it in at the same time!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭Blitzkrieger

After seeing the abuse the Chinese guy was getting behind the counter last night I'm not surprised they have a high turnover. I had a lovely breast in a bun last night while ginger soul-less people walked by and Tree ignored me. I tend not to eat burgers in Cork for some strange reason - when I'm on the piss anywhere else it's usually all I eat.

Sicilian Burger in Scuzi's. €10 something, but hey, pesto and nuts, BRING! IT! ON! :D

The burgers you get up in the franciscan well at the beer fest are divine, especially after drinking lots of german beer.
I am also quite fond of the burgers in captain americas. Lennox's on the bandon road do a savage quarter pounder also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭Kold

Captain America's burgers are dry and overpriced. Although the one with the fried egg is edible.

OK I went to Scoozi's on Monday and, well, the burgers were EUR 15 with side salad and a few chips, that's dearer than in my memories

I had a Creole Burger this time, with fried onions, red pepper puree and Creole spices. Nice but not worth EUR 15 :o

i had a breast in a bun sober the other day and i LOVED it! oh if only i was brave enough to buy more than one at a time.... fair play is all i can say....

im being nosey now but what is ssf???

happy new beer to one and all!

I second that. Garlic breast in a bun + chips is the business, EVEN sober :D Even though they're smaller and flatter now. They used to be round and messy, pure bliss ;)

The only Hillbilly's outlets I know of are on McCurtain St and Grande Parade, are they the only 2 in the world  A Google/Wiki search didn't yield any satisfactory results...

There's a HillBillies by the Churchfield phone exchange too isn't there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 747 ✭✭✭all_smilz

and in tralee and limerick i think! mmmm *drools* they really oughta make a bacon, cheese, garlic breast in a bun with a hashbrown and another breast in a bun.... for symmetry of course.......

Surely the fact that they're called "Breast in a bun" excludes them from being burgers... Enough of the dry flavourless Hillbillies crap, it's the mayonnaise that makes it nice.

The real problem with the Franciscan burgers is that you can't just get one whenever you need..

Well, they're quite close to a chicken burger all the same ;)

Has anyone been to the other chicken burger place off Patrick's Street? Behind the Victoria Hotel I believe. Can't remember what street. Went there one Sunday afternoon, staff seemed half asleep, took ages for everything, and being the impatient type I left after 10 mins in the queue

Went for a 3 Pepper Angus instead, never looked back :D

I don't find them that dry, it might be down to the bun actually. And I love the spicy batter, but then again it's definitely a matter of taste here :)

Actually, are KC's burgers any good? Never get them because the few times I'd be in Douglas I always want a Polynesian.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,219 ✭✭✭invincibleirish

    two favourites:

    1. newport fully loaded at the newport

    2. new yorker burger at Zacs

both amazing burgers, eggs, bacon the works!

both around the 10 Euro mark.

KCs burgers are an acquired taste. The buns are a bit chewy and the meat patties a bit small, but I actually quite like them. My guess is you'll either love em or hate em.

Frozen supermarket things soaked in grease... Which isn't necessarily bad.
