aggressive music like rob zombie or rage against the machine for weights
upbeat music like the killers or fatboy slim for running.
Recently listening to Whipping Boy during weights, which isn't aggressive, but put me in the right mindset to psuh myself anyways

i have a few of the rocky songs, eye of the tiger, and the one that the training's done to in the first two films, cheesey, yes, but good motivators.

Sometimes when i'm running a nice mellow song's cool because it calms me down if i'm hurting, but most of the time it's fast paced stuff ranging from oasis, ocean colour scene, to metallica, led zeppelin and AC/DC.

    Each to their own really.

Kings of leon, white stripes, rolling stones, some old prodigy and chemical brothers get me going when cycling.

Sound isolation earphones are great for blocking out other noises and allowing you to concentrate (can be dangerous due to this reason of course, e.g. running/cycling). I would recommend the shure e2c or e3c which can be picked up cheaper (not cheap!) online as the dollar is so weak and shure have a new range out.

what is that really catchy kings of leon song ???

the beat of the radio , etc pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,387 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

    http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/kingsofleon/fans.html

if you have a few lyrics of any song then just stick it in google using quotes
    " "

and stick in the band name if you know it. When you put in quotes google searches for that exact quote, those words in that order. So best pick some obscure lyric if you can.

I don't bring my ipod to the gym. I may have done once of twice before but found that I had to turn the volume up too high in order to drown out the cr@p played over the gym sound system. I would rather save my ears.

Thats what I was recommending sound isolation ones for. They go in your ear like ear plugs. Some muscians use them to listen to their own playing during concerts. Great on buses full of nattering students. Also blocks out the wind effect you get wearing headphones out walking or cycling.

I find heavy stuff good for doing weights... Motorhead, Nashville Pussy, Ozzy, Queens of the Stone Age, also White Wedding by Billy Idol :D

    My headphones are isolation ones!

Another reason I don't listen to my ipod in the gym is that I grunt too loadly without my ears as part of the feedback loop.

on another note, what earphones would ppl advise using, the regular ones that come with the player always slip out??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,931 ✭✭✭Jimmy Bottlehead

The Sony Ericsson ones (they come with the phones but I'm sure you can buy them) sit into the ear canal and don't come out easily! The trailing cord is the problem!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

I've got a handy little arm strap to hold the Ipod, keep the earphones in by wearing a hat.

Music of choice for working out is Slipknot, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Rammstein, Machinehead etc.

    Anything angry will do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,387 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

There are 2 types of sound isolation ones. Some are normal earphones that have a microphone on them, this microphone is listening to outside noise and sends a reverse soundwave down your ear to cancel the outside noise. The others are like earplugs, and you stick them in so they do not fall out easily, the shure e2c e3cs e4cs are like this, and amazing quality, normal ones sound brutal after using them for a while.
The trailing cord is the problem!
My shures are too long normally. there is a eg3 version (for gamers) with a shorter lead. I simply gather mine in a loop near the jack and tight a very loose knot in it to shorten it. I still want it long on occasion, going into a PC

Anything upbeat/poppy/dancy. Songs that would get me bopping around a dancefloor in a nightclub bascially!:D
Gets the blood pumping for me while im out running anyway..can also be seen singing to them!:o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 578 ✭✭✭Leon11

I despise Rap, Hip Hop etc but I'll listen to DMX all day if I'm lifting. The man is so angry it's not even funny.

I'm afraid I have to put up with major noise (music) in my Gym when I'm working out. It's a a hell of a distraction to my concentration.

And as for TVs playing MTV all over the place. What kind of morons do they think we are?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,166 ✭✭✭Cheeky_gal

This is a MUST HAVE in the gym... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxLFXCZowas

An incredible motivational song....seriously check it out & I'll come back with more classics for you all cuz it seems as though a lot of you don't know real music from shoite! lol :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,932 ✭✭✭SuprSi

I have to admit to being slightly surprised by the music selection here. It makes me wonder why gyms always play crappy dance music rather than more generic music that everyone 'might' listen to.

Me, I listen to dance music, almost solely. Not the crappy kind that blares over the gym speakers mind you, but 'proper' dance music :D I don't think I could listen to anything else when working out.
