What forums do you avoid posting in, even though you have an interest in the topic?

What forums do you avoid posting in even though you have an interest in the topic?

For me, its Politics, as judging from feedback and what ive read in the forum itself, it gets very heated and bannings a plenty. It seems like a hard place to have a decent debate.

Also i post very little in the music forums, even though im a rock and metal c whore. The reason for it is that music is a taste people have that is almost impossible to change (Imo) so id expect there would be plenty of threads of "dickie rock is great", "no he's shoite" comments.

so what about you guys? Is this thread too serious for this hour of the morning?

I rarely post in music, even though I'd be a fairly keen music listener. I just guess its pretty much the same as what you said, some people like X, some like Y. Other than that I'd say I post in most forums I have an interest in.

Politics for me too, although I read it alot.

Self Defence & Martial Arts, poorly moderated and discussion re. different fighting styles go the same as the political forum discussions.

Fitness, a hell of a lot of very poor advice and people's post count appear's to somehow equat to knowledge.

Personal issue's, for the same reason as all of the above.

politics because it always turns into the ultimate tit for tat pissing contest.
PI because i used to mod it and i cant deal with seeing the same crap turn up over and over again and the same people who just get upset becuase the advice they get is not what they want to hear.

Poker - Read it all the tim but dont post as much now. It mainly 6-max 100nl+ hands so i doubt my NL20 hands would get much of a response.

I would post in most of the forums I frequent, except Fashion/Appearance. I usually stick my ugly head in there for a quick look but run away scared most of the time

Film and Music, for some odd reason, as I'm interested in both but rarely think of visiting those forums much.

    Punk.

People started a Blink 182 thread in there.

    *sigh*

ALso politics as it's too heated.

I love personal issues, excellent ****e that people write and I've seen the mods write some good advice for the odd real problem.

This is wrong. Posting hands will help you improve your game and you will get replies and discussion about it, regardless of the limit or how easy/difficult the hand may be/seem.
A lot of the really good posters there are very honest, if you played a hand sh1te they'll say so but they'll also point out why, which is something that will help you. Look at Dvdfan, he used to post micro-limit hands and it's helped him to no end to get up to 100nl+, so go for it.

I usually read the Playstation forum, but don't post in it as I've nothing to contribute to it other than sh1te like "I think X is great!", the rest there seem to know a fcking load about the console/games etc.

If there's a topic going on any forum that I browse (though I usually don't get far between AH and the Poker forum) that's interesting, I'll post in it.

Music, I guess, still big into music, but don't understand all these new fangled genres

Politics, same as already stated, turns into a pissing contest, and even Godwins law wont save you in a immigration discussion there.

PI, to depressing, but would post if compelled.

Military, too old now, dad's army is about my limit these days :D

Yeah add that to my list as well. I go on there, then realise how many people like Arcade Fire and think to myself "why bother?"

    +1 on music and film.
Like both music and film but for some reason never feel compelled to post there that much.
As ye say probably music and film are a taste thing possibly leading to fruitless arguments.
    Also the endless genres maybe.

I read most threads on AH without posting. I post on 'simple' threads like this that only needs one answer, but on the more controversial topics i dont bother, i just get annoyed by the amount people who only believe what they say and never listen to anyone elses opinions. Id need to be on the net all day to argue my point and i dont have the time or the energy for it.
Also the boxing forum, i posted on there once and i was basically told, your a woman you dont box what would you know, even though i love boxing and have a good knowledge of it. I didnt realise you have to play a sport to have an opinion on it.

Politics - many take themselves too seriously even though the argue like a particularly dim AH poster and the 'debates' usually descend into football team 'debates' or "tit for tat".
Music - pretty much the same as above.
Literature - Again, as above but I cannot resist posting the odd time, even if it is usually just to deflate someone twunt's ego.

Poker - I'm a n00b. The posts there just confuse me.

PI - Too tempting to be my usual honest and blunt self. *mutter*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,226 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

    The usual suspects:

Politics and Soccer. Very rarely even read in there.

The reasons are fairly straightforward: people pick their team/party and that's it! Nothing bad can be said about their choice, but they can say what they like about others' choices.

I think it's illustrative that some mods are modding both. There seems to be no unbiased mods in either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭humbert

Love reading the Thunderdome but don't post because I'm not very funny.

I'll read PI sometimes but most of the time people are just posting looking for affirmation, absolution or to demonstrate what they think is impressive knowledge of a particular subject. In other words they are wallies

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

Music (and most of the sub-forums) - Even though very interested in Music and different genres I will mostly just check Rock&Metal and leave it at that...
After Hours - Don't actually post here much even if I find some of the threads interesting.

    🤪

ANybody that says they 'know the basics' or the posts 'confuse me', come on over to mine and we can...learn together...with money.

If I have an interest I will post.
Politics? I have quite the disinterest in.

Politics, though I do wish I could just ignore it totally.

The country's ****ed and there's nothing any of us can do about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 454 ✭✭CrazyTalk

Music and Film, I actually don't know why, same with Comics.
I wouldnt bother trying to debate with people in Politics, and I just tend to read in Personal Issues, any advice I'd have would usually be posted already.

Literature - I love and adore reading books, but I just wouldn't know enough about it to partake in any sort of discussion.

P.I - I would just feel far too depressed reading through some of the threads there, even though it might be something that affects me personally.

Music - Listen to music a lot, but after having been in some discussions with my college friends, I found it a good idea not to try and discuss music whatsoever.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

Star Wars; I love it to bits but hate discussing the damn thing.

Soccer; I'd probably post there if I could be arsed jumping through the obligatory hoops....and I'd probably be banned 3 hours later.

Computers & Technology: I wouldn't be as adept at giving helpful advice as some posters on there but I used to contribute....somone changed something in the drop downs and now it's just too much effort to navigate to so I don't bother.

I couldn't give a f*ck about PI or anyone with one...more power to them.

Those are ones I avoid (or have avoidance made for me)...plenty of others I don't visit but few that I avoid.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,784 ✭✭✭Dirk Gently

The atheism and Christian forums. I don't post because I don't need to really. Posters such as wicknight, scofflaw, Asiaprod and a few others have far more patience than I and say much better and more diplomatically what I do be thinking.

Although I post there, I hear what people are saying about politics. It does get very tedious but against my better judgement I do go back to post every now and again.

Soccer is another one, apart from being stuck in work on a match night (Liverpool thread is good for running commentary) I otherwise never post there because the forum is almost as blind as politics. I may however make a few drunken posts after tomorrows match with the mancs. Soccer mods please send me a pm if I get banned tomorrow because I probably wont remember on Monday. :)

A lot of other forums I just read but have no interest in posting on, such as fitness, martial arts, boxing, history, transport, infrastructure and astronomy. I don’t avoid posting in those forums, just don’t feel obliged to add anything to the discussions.

A forum I feel is under used a lot is humanities. I use to post there a lot but it seems to be dead now. It's a pity, it was a much better place to discuss things as oppossed to the same threads on afterhours. They might have been a fraction of the size as their sister threads here in afterhours but they were 100 times more interesting.

PI because i used to mod it and i cant deal with seeing the same crap turn up over and over again and the same people who just get upset becuase the advice they get is not what they want to hear.
Or the ones who only listen to what they want to hear, i.e.:

    OP: "Should I do x?"

<next 20 posters>: "No, that would be stupid,"

Poster 21 (who always disagrees with the majority for no reason other than they can): "I think you should do it"

OP: "Finally someone who knows what they are talking about, thanks Poster 21, I'll do it!"

Fitness - because you ask one question and you get three or four different answers which are all FACT!

I wouldn't give out about anyone on the forum though, because they are all genuinely giving advice re what worked for them. It just gets a bit annoying when you're looking for one answer and end up more confused than you were before you asked the question :(

Oh and Thunderdome, cos its a waste of energy.

That doesn't surprise me one bit. There seems to be some regular posters there who discount people's opinions just because they have never boxed at any level. I got in an argument there a while a go about Joe Calzaghe and was subjected to all that nonsense about somebody's opinion being more valid because they had some sort of boxing coach certificate. I'm sure you proably have at least as much boxing knowledge as any of the "experts" in that forum.

I post in boxing occasionally but for the most part I avoid it because of all that elitist crap.
