OK, i was hoping that all you guys would be able to give me some advice on this. Firstly let me quickly describe the problem.......

I'm 16, and I'm trying to get myself nicely toned for next summer. I'm playing rugby 5 times a week(1hr each) and am therefore fairly fit in general. Although, personally I dont feel that my Abs or Pecks are the way i want. I want sleek toned pecks that blend nicely into my abs. Thats all, not bady building style.

I was wondering what kind of excercises should I start doing to work those pecks. Please bear in mind that im not allowed enter a gym until Im 17, so please suggest stuff i can do at home.

    Thanks in advance!

If I was you I'd focus on Push-ups. Vary the push-ups as well, from normal push-ups to decline push-ups. I find push-ups great, and I actually like doing them.
For visible ab's I think most people here will say look at your diet, and that you need to get your body fat % down if they are not visible.
If they are visible and you want to build them I find reverse crunches really good, but like the push-ups you should vary the type of crunches.

Everyone here is going to have their own opinion, this is just mine from the little results I have gotten (but thats down to lack of keeping up training)

    Good luck with it anyway!

Yes pressups are good for pecs and abs.
I would not think you should worry about getting a 6 pack at 16. You need to have very low body fat, as Frankieboy mentions, to get one, as well as having sufficiently developed muscle. At 16 you are growing a lot so restricting your diet to keep your bodyfat low would strike me as unwise.

    !

Yep, i think you are correct on the body fat point. My abs are hard, but they lie beneath a layer of this "fat". Would anyone here care to share with me how to lower my body fat %.

Does it mean going on a strict protein diet, like with the raw eggs and all?

I will appreciate any help, thanks

Brace yourself for the replies you get tomorrow. They probably won't be what you want to hear.

Anyways I know where you're coming from. I STILL get grief from my 'rents over training and that's with 12 (i think) national records and 2 world championships under my belt. It's just their nature. So to that end don't expect it to really change THAT much once you do get into the gym. Reasoning may or may not work, it's worth a shot if you haven't already.

As for the layer of fat that's covering your six pack... depending on how thick a layer we're talking I'd nearly just leave it and concentrate on rugby. You don't want to go on a super low kcal diet because you'll get the sh!t beat out of you and not be able to recover for training and matches.

Really? Well it should be interesting so!

On the other hand, yes, the look of a six pack isn't everything. And looks definetly mean nothing on a rugby pitch. (Although you'd be surprised with some people!)

Like has already been mentioned going on a calorie controlled diet at 16 isn't a good idea, You have got a lot of growing to do still.
Would be a very good idea if you had a look at the stickies in this section lot of good info in there.

If you're a rugby player, you should do the training and let nature take care of the rest. If you're going on some restrictive diet at the age of 16 you're setting yourself up for a fall.

Obviously everyone wants to look good, but at 16 you're better off seeing what type of physique you're going to have as opposed to trying to sculpt yourself. Train hard, eat loads of the right stuff and nature will take care of things for you.

I train a guy who is 17 and every week he has a new question about how to get a 6 pack or bigger pecs or defined shoulders etc. I'll give you the advice I give him: eat loads of whatever your Ma puts in front of you, and ask for second helpings. Then turn up for training all the time. That's really it. When you hit like 19 you'll know more about what you should be working on.

Hey, thanks for the great advice! Yep, i agree with the rugby angle, but we do mostly "rugby style training" at rugby, if that makes any sense. My school allows some players the facility of the weights room. (me excluded) The guys that are doing weights have got massive since the august! One guy has arms so big, he has lost the abilty to bend his arms back far behind his head. Can that be healthy???? for 16 yr olds?

my gut reaction is to say no its not but people might disagree with me.......but i suppose there is no particular harm with it if he is doing it "naturally"
