Its insane that Easterby is starting at 9 tomorrow! Up to this week hes been playing rugby for Otley, a small town in Yorkshire since leaving Leinster last year for chrissake!

At the peak of his career he was mediocre, and now he's back playing Heineken Cup rugby aged 35/36, not having trained with the team at all this year and clearly not gonna be match fit for this level of rugby. Its ridiculous.

Bring back Willis! Hes had a rough ride recently I know, but the lad just needs time to settle. He has the potential to be the best scrumhalf this country has ever produced.

i dont understand what was wrong with chris keane, didnt he transfer from connaught?what a kick in the teetch you join a club and become a 3rd choice scrum half after they buy someone to replace you on the bench

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 708 ✭✭✭Timothy Bryce

I think Willis provides too slow ball to Contepomi - you can see at every ruck he takes 2-3 steps before passing.

The answer to Leinsters problems don't lie at 9, they lie in the midfield and the completely anonymous centre pairing

Indeed Willis has nothing on Keane and Guy only has experience over him. I can see Guy's passing being a million times better then Willis but i think he will be slow and wont last longer then 50 minutes. I feel bad for Keane a generally good scrum half who thought he got his break being signed to Leinster only to find out they'd rather start the guy who cant pass a ball

Christ what happened the Leinster advantage there, Edinburgh break and score a converted try.

If Leinster had any sense now they'd work the corners and let the forwards do the work because this backline is not working at all getting turned over way to easy

What's going on? 16-3 to Edinburgh?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭randomer

Leinster just awarded a penalty try for a deliberate off the ball tackle on O'Driscoll.

Why is that not a yellow card?

    Because its a penalty try.................

Generally you give one or the other. Its debatable could have easily just been a yellow and no penalty try

that's no excuse for the yellow too tho.

Should have been yellowed too. Not the first baffling decision by the ref today...

Eh, that is why it should be a yellow card. It is not a choice for the ref. The foul has been committed, it has to be a yellow card.

Right pro foul then yellow but you wont find many ref's in the world then award a penalty try aswell

To see if anyone else might have scored

For a penalty try, the ref doesnt have to 100% certain, the rule was changed a couple of years ago and I think the word used is "probably".

Just did a quick search on the web for the rules of rugby. Found it on the IRB site at http://www.irb.com/lawregulations/laws/index.html

A penalty try must be awarded if the offence prevents a try that
would probably otherwise have been scored. A player who
prevents a try being scored through foul play must either be
cautioned and temporarily suspended or sent off.

I think the ref would normally wait a couple of seconds before making a major decision such as a penalty try. It is better to play on for 5 seconds and make the right decision, rather than make a snap decision immediately and possibly get it wrong?

Don't know why I am sticking up for the ref, he is having a shocker!

And thats why im against of rushing Karney into the Ireland XV this could cost Leinster the game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭randomer

That turnover was caused by a knock on by Edinburgh; Le Roux picked it up and passed to Carney and he threw the intercept ten yards behind where the knock on happened? Where was the advantage? Ref, you are having a shocker!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,506 ✭✭✭Jackz

Muck and the ref is blind aswell. :(

see you later qualification!ref is so biased its sickening wot a joke

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭randomer

How many penalties in the red zone before a yellow card?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,506 ✭✭✭Jackz

"Ed will have to watch it for yellow cards" my eye.

Yeah he is having a bad game he is one of "those" ref's but that still doesnt explain why Leinster are doing so badly, ref's cant score points you know. Honestly this backline has been pure caic they'v been extremely blunt and havent taken their chances.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,506 ✭✭✭Jackz

Your comment on the back line is correct but just before Edinburgh scored their first try Leinster had advantage in the red zone and made none when BOD was turned over, one cant help think that if he made several decisions according to the rules of the game we would be wining largely due to the forwards. When they go behind they make errors trying to force the game. Usually I don't give ref's a hard time but the frequency with which he has been the cause of me being abusive to my television is ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭randomer

Someone in the crowd seems to agree. I just heard a comment in the background saying "Ref you're having a shocker!".

It was just after he didn't play advantage when D'Arcy had the ball in his hands at the back of a ruck.

so long leinster, did ye really think they were going to get out of that group in fairness. fair play to edinburgh, some game today

they wouldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding

I have got to stop watching this match. Girv was tackled in the air there, trying to catch that ball. That is a penalty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭randomer

I think Edinburgh have played very well today. Their defence was very good, and they neutralised Leinster. I don't think Leinster played particularly bad, athough there were a few silly mistakes, credit needs to go to Edinburgh.

*sigh* he wasnt the Ed wing watch him and got him when Girv had his feet on the ground and spillt. Look believe me when a game is going like this things that normally go 50/50 tend to go the other way theres nothing you can do. This just defines that Leinster arent a great team they knew this was going to be a mountain but these are the matches you HAVE to win and target regardless of whats going on they tried and failed they didnt have a plan A or B and in the end Ed's defence just paid off.

Watch it again mate. I rewinded it to make sure. He was still in the air.

Edit: Attached a screen capture of it.

Well that's another HC gones down the drain. Although I was livid about group 5 and 6, Leinster should be able to hammer Edinburgh. BOD is Ireland's greatest ever player but should not be captain.

You can blame the ref all you want but Leinster were terribly poor this afternoon. How a team can dominate scrum and lineout and still lose so comprehensively is beyond me. They had absolutely no penetration and made countless basic errors. If I was a fan of theirs I'd be very frustrated.

Edinburgh on the other hand showed the importance of doing the basics well. Their defence was brilliant at times. Back to the drawing board for Leinster, they're all but out now.

Classic (for all the wrong reasons) Leinster away performance, infuriating, frustrating and all too predictable. All that talent squandered yet again....

I never blamed the ref. I do believe he had a shocker, but Leinster underperformed ... again; But as I said earlier in the thread, credit should go to Edinburgh.

    oohh slingbox...me likes. :)

Got nothing today. No bounce of the ball, none of the 50/50 calls from the ref, no pizazz from our flair players. Edinburgh really are a bogey team for us.

I think it is blindingly obvious that O'Driscoll is carrying an injury. He has limped off now in the last two games. The reason he is playing is down to the paucity of the leinster squad. We have beefed up the pack to a certain degree although (with the exception of Jackman) the front row is not HC winning standard. Wright and Le Roux would be good back up props but should not be starting matches.

Our only consolation now is winning the Magners League. I also think this is the end of Cheika. He has brought us thus far but I think it's time for him to move on.

I can watch Sky Sports, or any other channel I subscribe to over the web. For example, I can watch sky sports in the office on my pc, or if I could get it to work, on my mobile.

Do I have to be a subscriber to Skysports to view? Or is it P2P?

You do need to subscribe. You connect your digibox to your broadband and can watch your own digibox over the web. But there is no subscription for slingbox.

The ref was bad but Leinster weren't doing themselves any favours either. You can't blame him for the fact that three try attempts were held up, that's a combination of poor finishing by Leinster and great defence by Edinburgh.

I think Leinster have gone backwards in their development and Cheika needs to go. Some people might not like me saying this but I'd like to see Michael Bradley take over.

Back to the subject of refs that Scottish ref was useless in the Ulster match last night he had no concept of the advantage rule and couldn't wait to start dishing the yellow cards. I heard he gave four in the London Irish match last week. That's something that should be looked at. They need to keep the standard of reffing high in the heineken (it's a joke in the Magners) and neither of those Scottish twins has a place reffing European Cup rugby.
