    Immigrants.

How would you feel if they all left this week?.

    Would you miss them?.

Would you miss a certain sector more than others?. (Yea the hot east-EU chics :p)

I wondered this after visiting an apartment I own, and let out. Alot of the residents have left and returned to Eastern Europe for the Christmas season & the place is dead!.

    Emigrants have already left.

All fast food joints would come to a halt.

Oh yeah, there'll probably be a mass exodus over the Christmas period... Should be interesting.

I guess we'll rediscover what it's like when Irish people serve you in a shop/restaurant/anywhere :)

    "Yehh, wha??? Alroy..."

Mairt I thought you found Irish girls foxy enough ;)

I'm sure a lot of people like yourself would miss them. As in people who bought houses / apartments as investments and have them rented out.

Having said that maybe them leaving would force people to sell their investments as they can no longer get tenants, then there would be a huge suply of houses for sale leading to a drop in house prices, meaning I can finally afford to buy my own :D hurrah!!! (sorry for all who have lost tens of thousands dropping the price of your house cos of my plan there)

I'd miss scaring eastern europeans on the nitelink by talking too much to them. Theyre usually sober on their way home from work :o

fast food restaurants would come to a halt.
all the remedial jobs that students used to do, but are too good to do now would also come to a halt.
there would be far less eye candy thats for sure.
The irish would go back to hating each other again.

I'd miss them as much as I'd miss all Cavan people were they to leave.

Some I'd miss terribly as they were good craic and you could talk to them, despite the difficulty with the accent.

Some I'd not miss too much as they probably never contributed to our society in the first place.

Some I'd be glad to be rid of - nobody likes a tight fukcer. Fordiners now, not Cavan peoples ;)

I'm lucky in so far as I bought property when it was dirty cheap (by todays standards) so I don't have to worry about letting to EU workers.

Oh and regards the comment re. hot EU chic's, I was just taking the wind out of the sails of the few here who constantly sing their praises.

I love multicultural Ireland! I love that my kids will go to school with kids from different background, who speak different languages.

When I was in school I only got to be ignored and knocked back by Irish girls, 6th jnr will have a future of rejection from girls of all race, colour & creed - thats my boy!

Dunnes Stores & Tesco's would also grind to a halt.

Bavaria & Dutch Gold sales would slump dramatically. :D

But on a brighter note, the Irish lads 'n' ladies would jump back behind the bars & restaurants and we would be able to order our beers & meals without difficulty anymore.

Speaking for myself I'd miss all my east EU friends, of which I'm many.

I wouldn't miss the west African's or the Roma people as I truely don't believe they've contributed a thing to Irish society.

And although I've never eaten in the many Asian eateries in Parnell St. (Dublin) I'd miss driving through there and wafting in the lovely smells of Asian cooking and the amazing window displays.

I'd also miss the crack I have trying my hand at the little Russian and Polish I've learned.

Says it all! I think we as a nation would miss those who actually contribute to the country and economy, but on the other hand would be quite glad to be rid of the scroungers!

The difference is they (the Irish) didn't come here to scrounge.

I fvcking detest a scrounger, Irish or otherwise.

There is absolutely no reason why any able bodied person in this country should not be in full time employment or school/college.

I've never once not gotten what I ordered in a fast food place. Dunno why people keep saying this has happened to them.

On topic I'd miss them and everything they have brought to the country. Ireland would take a step backwards were they to leave and would certainly be a duller place.

A scrounger's a scrounger. Simple. Nationality is irrelevant. There are lots of Africans working in the health services. Paying their taxes. Check out any hospital or nursing home. See if you "truely [sic] don't believe they've contributed a thing to Irish society."

Yeah, scroungers are annoying no matter what nationality but when they come to country to scrounge it just p1sses me off more

I've nothing against any hard working decent foreigner fair play to them etc, some do contribute enormous amounts to us as a whole, but others are trying to bleed us dry, they are succeeding too!

I'd miss the chinese and the polaks, but not so much the black africians (or the white africans either come to think of it). I guess I just don't like Africans.

Service industry would be fkucked. construction industry would be fckucked. Health service would be in far, far worse state than it already is, believe it or not. LUAS journey would be less fun with less attractive girls to leer at. ATM scams would drop off. House rental prices would probably drop.

I assume they left the furniture, then?

Seriously, I've given a few Europeans a job here & they've all been decent hard-working people. Let's face it, they got off their arse & tried to better their lot. Such a pity a few malingerers came along for the ride, and lower people's perceptions of incomers in general.

I would miss this lovely foreign guy who always serves me at mac donalds, he's always so nice and happy and he puts the drinks in a cup holder and puts everything into a carrier bag to make it easier to carry to the car and drive home!!
I would also miss the lady who makes my sandwhiches!

You could say the same about the Irish in other countries.

It just means we probably would go back to hating Travelers a whole lot more.

I'd miss if all of these immigrants left, I've become quite friendly with a lot of them.

On a side-not; my dad used to have his own business and he used to hire mostly Lithuanians (this was a few years before they used to come over) just for the reason that he got so fed up with hiring Irish people, whom he found to be lazy, irresponsible, and generally just bad workers.

I think we should all hide behind the sofa for when they come back.

Seriously though in the long run I think the ones who are likely to leave are the socially mobile ones (polish and other east european). Most people I know would be of the opinion that they are the ones we would rather stay and the scroungers are the ones we are more likely to be left with as an ongoing drain on our resources.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

I think the country's much better off from having them around. They showed us that there's more to life than bacon and cabbage (not that I don't love me B&C an so do the Poles too).

20 or 50 years from now Irish people are going to look damn sexy too. It's a fact that mixing with gene pools far away from your own is a good way to improve the health and looks of a people.
