Interval Running for beginner

I read about a programme for beginners on interval running that begins with running for 1 min, walk/slow jog for 3 mins and increasing this over an 8 week programme in order to run non stop for 40 mins. I run on a threadmill and although I used not to be a bad runner, I broke a couple of toes last year and feel I have never really got my cardio fitness back using the other cardio machines.
What are your opinions on this programme as I have been doing it for a two weeks now and don't feel like I'm working hard enough but if it gets me back to longer runs I feel that i should persist.

Sounds like you're too fit for this if you don't feel like you are working hard enough. You could firstly try running harder in the running part, but if it's still too easy instead of walk/run, do run fast/run slow. But interval training is an excellent way to improve fitness.
