if you are looking for good quality stuff then www.irishlifting.com is the cheapest and by far the best value for money out there.

yes you maybe able to get some of the items slighty cheaper in argos but they will be no where near the same quality and won't last him nearly as long

Yes avoid argos, nothing worth getting there except maybe extra cast iron plates (now that Mickks offer is over). Do not buy the vinyl/plastic weights. Mickks 20kg standard plates are still a great buy and cheaper than argos, large diameter 20kg plates are suited to certain lifts like deadlifts, but 80kg will keep him going a while. My brother got a cheap argos bench, and it always felt rickety & shakey to me, I no longer use it.

The minimum to get would be this http://www.irish-lifting.com/product_info_equipment.php?cPath=1_15&products_id=260 Which is cheaper than argos as you get extra weights, and it is delivered so no hassle lugging it to your car.

Are you sure he will use them? I know loads of lads with weights, but few who use them. If you are unsure I would not bother with a bench just yet, maybe get one in the sales after xmas, dunno if irish-lifting(Mickk) will have a sale. But you do not want an entire bench just collecting dust. If he keeps up the weights then get a bench in a while.

Good quality items will have a higher % resale value than poor argos stuff, if he does give up and wants rid of it.

Thanks for the tip guys (Not a thread hijacking!)

I bought a load of stuff from irishlifting this morning after seeing this thread. It's going to be delivered in the next hour!

Great referral. And to think I was going to get all my gear from Argos!
