got body fat done yesterday for first time. It was 19.2. i was happy enough condering I came home from states 16 and half stone (fat) after summer. 13 stone 12 now. the instructor in gym told me something I wondering about. he reckons to strip down fat lift to your maximum every time. So squat with big weight in your hands. curl with as big a weight you can for as many as you can. What everyone think? What is the range for body fat?????

Are you a girl or a guy? And you're 6 foot right? If you're a girl I'd be very dubious about that bf reading, if you're a guy.. well it's an improvement on the summer!

Seriously though, congrats on the progress so far, but don't pay a huge amount of attention to those readings. I'd guess the gym uses on of the bio-impedence scales - you hold metal rods and you get a reading from that? On any given day my body fat reads anything between 15% and 35% on those things :p

But the instructor is right about the weights - lift big and lift heavy at a decent intensity for fat loss. Except the curls, anything but the curls... (stick to squats, deadlifts, rows, presses - all the exercises that work multiple muscle groups at one time. Once you've shed the fat you can start worrying about making the smalelr muscle groups look better, but for the most part they'll get a workout just from doing those compound lifts). The 'as many as you can' bit is a little misleading though - that could be anything from 4 to 24 reps. Anything in the 6-12 rep range (depending on which coach you speak to) will maximise your hormonal response for fat loss.

Yeh it was with one of those machines. At least its some knid of indicator. I am a guy. I was pleased enough with it. I was literally concentrating on interval running for month to get rid of excess weight at the weights about a month. Have to say I am feeling stronger. He told me to forget about actual mass for while and just lift heavy. Mass will take care of itself once i continue proper diet and cardio. what was a nice surprise was that i could do 3 sets of 4-5 reps in the heavier weights grade. (surprisingly easy actually)

Then go heavier until its not so easy :D

    Great feeling though isn't it

I am pretty weak, no, scratch that, I am just weak. But last night I benched 65kg x 5 for 4 sets so i was over the moon

sorry I just realised it was feedign time, so had to be a bit short as nothing becomes between me and my food.

Any way it is right in relation to the lifting heavy stuff, but there should be soem thought going into rep ranges and number of sets and looking to increase these over time as oppose to just saying go lift as much as you can for as many as you can.
