so my mam wants me to give her ideas for some small presents this year and im thinking im lacking a few things for the gym.

reliable scales(maybe with a built in bf percetage but i know peoples opinions on that here so really a simple scales will do)

good calipers - preferably something that does its best to stop me cheating myself

    measuring tape - simple enough

possibly(if they arent too expensive) a dips belt

can anyone give me brand /makes / models for the above and also the best place to buy them. an online shop would be the handiest

    thanks in advance

edit; skipping rope aswell as mine snapped recently

I have a vague memory that Lidl or Aldi has scales with bodyfat monitors coming on special soon.

I did a bit of searching and the calipers I saw recommended most was the slimguide one. I have it and am happy, I got it on offer online, otherwise the cheapest was on ebay.

Best dip belt I saw most recommended was the De Rigueur one from www.ironmind.com

Favourite kit I have is a chin bar and rings from www.ringtraining.com

If I was only allowed 2 things it would be them

I would add a set of push up stands and abdominal wheel - star fitness in bray will have both or arnotts in city centre

You can make an ab wheel yourself with some small weight plates and either a barbell or a dumbell handle.

    I've bought scales with/without BF% and they're wildly inconsistent. Now I always assume a +/- 3lbs margin of error.

Do a search on Ebay for "AccuMeasure 3000". Great, cheap piece of kit that will cost you about 12 Euro + postage.

    cheers lads for everything

ill check out ebay and i had a look at irish lifting and while they are well stcked they dont seem to have the little things(at least that i could find) like skipping rope etc.

argos will do me for scales and tape. ebay for the calipers so i suppose its jsut a good dips belt(altho its prob too expensive for a stocking filler) left but i can check out iron mind and the pther places you advise

the reason im not looking for things like the rings and the ab wheel is that i use a very well stocked and very quiet(at the right times) gym so i have no problem getting to the actual fitness equipment i want its just mainly measuring progress i lack and therefore lose a bit of motivation

    Thanks for the links crotalus.
I will have skipping ropes along with a full selection of boxing gloves, pads and bags, foam rollers and some agility stuff.
I was actually going to recommend an ab wheel I just brought one into the gym they're great.

Bit off topic, but I got an ab wheel and the handle bit is off centre. Anybody know why that is? it is an everlast one.

EDIT: just searched for a picture and found the reason!

A good fitness book would be a great stocking filler - can't recommend Never Gymless enough (rosstraining.com)

A good speed rope or hand gripper (CoC) and you're set.
