How can I gain weight, and Keep it on?

    I'm about 5'6 and usually weigh between 8.5 - 9 stone. I've weighed pretty much around this since I was about 17 - I'm 27 now. I've never been a huge a sports freak / gym junkie - mostly cause plenty in the past I've tried really hard, but I've never really been able to gain a huge amount of weight and keep it. If I hit the gym 3-4 times a week, eat loads including protein shakes, I can gain weight and get a lot more definition etc. But really all it takes is to slack off for a while, and I very quickly slip back to normal.

    Anyway, despite the fact I have not seen the inside the Gym or done any decent amount of real exercise in ages, but now I'm going to join a gym again and try to up the fitness a little, gain weight and bulk up. I'd appreciate some advice as to how best to do it.

    So, any suggestions?

    hi, my advice to you would be dont go to the gym more than 3 times a week but when you are there spend at least 1.5 hours, i only go twice a week but spend around 2.5 hours there, concentrate on the weights more than cardio workouts, as to the diet ill leave that up to someone else.

    Eh be consistent. Your body's not gonna hold onto them muscle unless it has to.

    And what's "loads" of food?

    just came off a dirty bulk myself,going on a cut and getting back to cardio now though.i'll do another 6 week bulk coming up to christmas.my view is this,eat more cals than your body needs while bulking and afterwards you will see how much you have gained.then do a cut.after that,the muscle you will have gained will count as weight gained(obviously) rather than just eating ****,weighing yourself and thinking 'yes,gained 4lbs'.make sure that you are gaining muscle,not just body fat

    You know everyone's gonna come on and say dirty bulks are pointless and ineffiecent right?

    may be,but i don't have enough time to eat a ****load of clean food to get my cals,so i just eat dirty to get my cals instead
