Weekend Diet, negating all hard work done??

This is something that has puzzled me for a while,

Lets say I eat right or 5 out of the 7 days of the week, small meals, correct portions and equally split up amounts of protein carbs etc,

If I then go drinking at the weekend, and my diet goes to pot, (a take away probably, maybe 10/12 pints, and gapped out not well structured meals that are probably highly processed)
    what are the affects??

Reason I am posting is due to christmas coming up, and I am going away this weekend, with my last workout having being on wednesday, and I am curious as to what affect my bad nutrition for the next 2 days will have??

Also should I look at supplementing with some protein bars, meal replacement bars, during the holiday or is it a waste of time??

    Cheers,

I think people's body are different.I know some guys who could stop training for three to four days without any effect. I HAVE to train 6 days of the week.
I am in a similar boat to you in that I don't tend to eat great maybe a day to two days a week. I dont eat takeaways but I will allow myself maybe to pick at stuff at home which I wouldn't do during the week. Also I drink once a week ( Friday or Saturday). The day I go drinking I make sure to have good meal before going out. I also ALWAYS make myself to get up the next morning and eat breakfast. This has been my routine for past three months
I came home from America at the summer 16 stone and 5 pounds.
    I am now 14 stone 0 pounds.
This is through following a six day a week training routine and doing my best when hungover not to eat crap ( although I have failed at times).
If you don't let yourself become inhibited now and then you will go mad and eventually resent training.

To paraphrase Transform - amateur approach produces amateur results!

Obviously you're not "wasting you time" on the 5 good days as 5 good/2 crap is better than 0 good, but if you're not progressing as you has hoped you'll know why.

    Cheers mack1

The protein bars and the like are not going to make a difference if you are eating junk - enjoy your beers etc but resolve to eat really well and just go for a bloody run to burn it off the day before and after.

As mack1 said - if you are not making progress then YES the weekend is making **** of your week day efforts

Why not get your running in whilst drunk? Some of the best races I've ever had have been on the way back from the pub with mates at Uni!

    No, you don't.

Presumably you're coming at that from a fat loss aspect? If that's the case then you're either not training hard enough in the gym, or your diet isn't up to scratch.

Training 6x a week might be better for fat loss, but it is absolutely not neccessary.

    Cheers,

Interesting question and one that I have thought about a fair bit. The simple answer is that there is no real way of telling apart from the results that you get over a period of time with that lifestyle. The key is common sense and moderation. Have your pints but avoid the takeaway on the way home. If someone offers you a bag of crisps the next day and you think you really want them just say no and a few minutes later you'll realise you have happily done without them.

Also, if you reread what you wrote you'll notice there is a certain inevitability around what you feel will happen after a night on the beer. Why do you have to eat processed crap after a night out? Why don't you just not do that? What I mean is that I used to think the same - ah sure I'll be having a snack box from the chipper tomorrow after this feed of pints tonight..I know I'll be craving it...but just recently the thought of all that greasy food is much less appealing and when I do have it I don't enjoy it as much as I used to say months ago - reason being that I have started to enjoy healthy choices more and know that eating crap doesn't help me towards my goal of that six pack and posing for the cover of Men's Health;)
