Anyone know if Dell are back to quick delivery on their laptops?

Had to wait ages for an M1330 during the summer and need to get another laptop before xmas, just a bog standard Inspiron.

The vostros are back to a reasonable delivery time, I'm not sure about the inspirons though. I think they are back to normal as well.

two weeks ago i ordered my Vostro on the friday and it arrived the following tuesday. thank you Dell! (and interlink!)
the inspirons still say a waiting time of >5 weeks as far as i know

Boo urns to the long wait, whats the deal with the Vostro, are they fine for a standard wifi, few office docs type machine?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,125 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

Yep, they are just as good as the inspiron and will be fine for those tasks.

Just an update on their shipping times for Vostros:

Ordered a Vostro on the 4th December and got an estimated delivery date of 12th December.

Got a revised delivery date this morning of December 31st.. not happy as it was a Christmas present!

    Bah:(
Anyone receive an Inspiron recently? How was the ship time? It's a last minute Christmas present.:o

Balls, I'll be ordering one for my mum in a few days. It's also meant to be a christmas present. Let us know if the delivery time changes (hopefully for the better).

Will do AC, but I may cancel the order and look elsewhere.

It's still in pre-production so sounds like they're having problem sourcing the parts for it.. but you'd think they'd be well aware of the demand around Christmas.

Will be probably giving them a call this evening as there's a few things i want to sort out with them.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,125 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

Well my sisters vostro was in pre-production for about 5 days when I bought hers. On the sixth day the status changed to dispatched and it arrived the next day. I think it's just their on-line tracking thing is crap.

I don't really need this one before christmas but it would be nice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Rang them there..

Nice girl on the phone hinted at a shortage of parts and said home users somewhat would be getting priority over business orders - not good news seeing as the Vostro is a business machine.

Said she would sign me up for Orderwatch and phone me this time next week if my order hadn't shipped to discuss cancelling it (i hinted i would) or changing the address to my home address (as my office is closed at the end of next week).

Not much else i can do about it!

I'm about to order with the boards.ie link in a few minutes so I'm hoping the delivery times are somewhat decent. We will not celebrate Christmas until Jan. 7 so there's plenty of time. What's the likelihood of Dell delivering between Dec 27th and the 7th of Jan?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,125 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

I'd say you'll get it by then. I've just ordered a vostro for my mum. I'll keep you updated on the delivery date.

Funnily enough, my Vostro was shipped yesterday and is with Interlink now. But still has a estimated delivery date of the 31st. Now i know Interlink are bad but they're not that slow!

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,125 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

Sweet. Hopefully I'll get this before christmas.

It doesn't really matter if mine comes before christmas or not. 'Twould be nice if it did though.

Matters to me however.. it's a Christmas present! :D

If i phone up Dell, could i get an Interlink Tracking number? Doesn't seem to be on the electronic packing slip anyways.

I'm sure they would, your best bet is to ring them. Don't bother emailing them. I tried that before and they never emailed me back. I'd say you have nothing to worry about, if the order has already been dispatched.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Cheers AC. Will give it a go.

Should i be concerned that they haven't taken payment yet though?

They reserved payment when i first bought the laptop and got an order confirmation but they seems to refund it when i got the new estimated delivery date, and it's still not taken / reserved from my card.

    Seems odd?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,125 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

I don't understand why they refunded the money when they gave you the new delivery date. It's a bit odd that they haven't reserved the payment yet. I wouldn't be worried about it but just curious as to what would happen if you maxed out your card now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Well, i phoned there and i was talking to the same girl who i was chatting to about it on Tuesday (what are the odds?!). She said to ignore the estimated delivery date and assumed it would be with me either tomorrow morning or Monday at the latest.

But she'll phone me back on Tuesday to make sure it got delivered.

Regarding payment, i'll mention it to them after i get it. I wouldn't feel right if it was a genuine mistake.

    18 Days it took

mine was still in pre production until today but i cancelled it because it was E60 cheaper ( 305-N1210001 )

hope they get their shipping sorted in the new year

Slightly off topic - but my machine has moved to the delivery stage, and the progress screen says "follow the link to the carrier’s web site" to track the delivery. I haven't got a link or a tracking ID for InterLink.

Will this get updated at some stage - I need to make sure my mother can be at my house to take delivery.

On delivery, I found the same thing. Ordered a laptop online about 1am, Dec 14th(Friday). Payment authorised @10am-ish. System went from pre-production, to production, to preparation for dispatch, to being handed over to delivery agent (Interlink) on Dec 17th. Dell refer to "production" as the unit being tested, btw. I got the same "follow link to carrier website" message, but there was no link! Got a call at work on the 19th, courier 5 mins from my home address. I was 30 minutes drive from home, and there was no-one else there to accept it. The courier was good enough to drop it in to a neighbours who I rang. I would have had it delivered to work, but I didn't expect Dell to ship it so quickly!!

I'd say expect delivery 2 days after it's dispatched.

When you ordered it...what was your estimated delivery date

Are those delivery dates accurate because i dont fancy waiting another 3 weeks for mine to come

They are what they say on the tin. An estimation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 376 ✭✭curiosity

Delivery date was given as December 31st. That date never altered on the online status link. Was actually delivered Dec 19th, as I said in earlier post.

For what it's worth, I ordered an XPS 1330, and took the default setup except for an upgraded screen.

on high spec machines. dell can sometimes find it hard to get components so the lead time can be greater. similarly on the low end ones sometimes components go end of life and your keep waiting as result(but you usually get a free upgrade as a result). have noticed with dell if you order near the end of quarter you get the machine double quick, i think this is because they cant include the sale in there accounts unless it has shipped

Been waiting almost 2 months for my inspiron now :( No sign of it coming any time soon. I rang them this morning and they told me they'd mail me a number to call, but low and behold I got no number. Yet!

I dont think I will be ordering a laptop of Dell ever again. I order a Inspiron 1520 on the 25/11/07 got an estimated date of the 12/12/07 then on the 11/12/07 got a revised delivery date of the 31/12/07 and guess what on the 30/12/07 got another revised date of the 10/01/08  I am not holding my breath that it will be delivered on the 10th. Have rang them 3 or 4 times and got some waffle and have written to them but still no movement. Very bad experience.

I should really have canceled the order when the first estimated date was moved.

Anyone get a Vostro delivery lately?

Mine has been in pre-production for four days now with an estimated delivery date of 11/01/08.

@floppybits: Thats chronic service, I would be looking for some form of upgrade or reimbursement from them.

I'm in the same boat, only they cancelled my order after about the 4th delay. I've been on the phone to them several times too, and been on hold on one occasion for 15 mins! So just there now they mailed me to tell me I'll have to reorder the system! Even though I despise whineline, I am seriously thinking of ringing Joe over this. It's bloody ridiculous! One of my mates did cancel his order alright - he ordered an XPS back in October with expected delivery constantly put back until he could take no more. He said depreciation alone would have knocked several hundred quid from the value of the laptop by the time he got it. Mine was an outlet laptop - I thought they were already built ffs!

Ordered an XPS 1330 last night and was given a delivery estimate of the 17/01. Not holding my breath after reading some comments, but hope it doesn't take forever!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,180 ✭✭✭shnaek

I rang sales just there to reorder. They said I wasn't through to the right place, and that they'd transfer me. They then transferred me to an answering machine. They have 2 hours. Then I'm taking this to the national airwaves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,842 ✭✭✭Floppybits

Just been back onto dell there as they pushed out my order again to the 21/01/08. Thinking now of canceling the order and going down to pc world and buying a laptop. I told them that by now my orders should have been upgraded to another laptop but they said they cant do that. All they said is that the order was delayed due to a problem with a part. I mean ffs how long does it take to build a laptop by this time I could have built and installed a server.

Oh dont I know. Well decided to cancel the order now, at least I can go out and get a laptop in shops. 2 months for a laptop is a joke. Anyway anyone suggestions on what good laptops are out there? No dells.:-)

    moved.

Thats shocking !! I order a XPS m1530 yesterday and got a delivery date of the 25th of this month ..... if they do start messing me around i will cancel.

I also ordered a xps m1530 last night and i was given jan 24 as my delivery date. the way things are sounding about dell deliveries lately, this could be the best case scenario. having to wait over two weeks is annoying. if it wasnt for the large discount on the laptop i wouldnt have bothered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

I had to get my XPS M1710 replaced last year. They ordered the new one on the 28th of November. I just got the laptop today.

But two days ago, I was told my delivery date was the 2nd of February. I wasn't too happy and they said they would try speed things up. Guess they did :)

Now I've a brand new XPS M1710 with 3yr Warranty :D I'm thinking of just selling it though. I don't use it. :(
