What would be the fastest you could lose 2 stone by regularly using a treadmill, cutting fizzy drinks out of my diet? How often would you need to excercise?
    Thank You

    First of all - welcome!

Second of all, in relation to your question - how long is a piece of string?

It would be a good idea if you could first provide some background on your height, weight etc, and if you could take the time to read through the stickies at the top of the forum.

With that much information between 14weeks and never......

Maximum sustainable healthy weightloss is about 2lb's per week, so to lose 2stone (28lb's), about 14 weeks, just by cutting out fizzy drinks and treadmilling you wont get even close to the calorie defecit you need to get 2lb's per week though, at a guess 30-35 weeks.

Glacier you really need to start with the basics and read the stickies first.

If you are asking the obvious questions then get the simple things going asap

Even completely cutting out fizzy drinks & running every day it would still take 6 months? I'm about 5'8 and weigh around 12 st. Anyone else?

You see it is very hard to out train a bad/poor diet.

I have no clue how long it takes to burn say 500 calories running on a treadmill but, which is easier to do, bust your gut for an hour on a treadmill or just eat less everyday (obviously in a healthy controlled way)

Read teh stickies about weight loss, diet is very very important. Just cutting the fizzy drinks probably will get results that will end very quickly. To get more consistent results you need to understand it a bit more. Read the stickies at the top of this forum

According to a machine I used to use It's a fast enough 5k run (plus a bit more). Which isn't easy.

Much better to train in a less running orientated way and blitz (or at least significantly improve) your diet too.

For me an hour's easy running is 800 kcal.
To burn the same amount of calories as there is in a pound of fat thats 4:20 continuous easy running.

One hundred and twenty two and a half hours of easy running would be required to burn the equivalent energy stored in 2 stone of fat.

Now given that a substantial proportion of the energy for the 122.5 hours running would come from glycogen and not fat it would take a hell of a lot more than 122.5 hours running to shift 2 stone of lard.

    Depressing eh?

as said 2lb a week will do it in 14weeks. I lost at a rate of ~0.5lb per week and am glad I did. Slower it comes off the more likely it is to stay off in my mind. 2lb of fat has ~7000kcal. So you would need a deficit of 1000kcal per day.

You could run an hour a day and maybe burn 600kcal. Then you still have 400kcal to use, so you could reduce your food intake my 400kcal to have a total of 1000kcal.

I would recommend aiming for 1lb a week. So you need a deficit of ~500kcal per day, and a combination of exercise and lower food intake can do this easier than aiming for a 1000kcal deficit.

I would also highly recommend lifting heavy weights as a way to lose fat (not weight). You will be building muscle so your wieght may actually remain stable while lifting wieghts. i.e. adding muscle and losing fat at the same rate.
