I'm looking to do Day Skipper course in the spring. Does anyone have any recommendations for course providers?
I have a list from the ISA website, but if anyone has any personal experience etc., I'd love to hear.

Had a look at the list - The only one I know is Niall mcAllister, West Cork Sailing - very competent. And a lovely area.

I did the ICC a while ago in Kilmore Quay - excellent time, good personal instruction and a nice area to sail in. If I were to do the dazed kipper course, I'd definitely go back there.

If you ask around, I reckon that most people would agree that the top ISA Instructors in the country are:
    • Stuart McNamara Lough Ree Powerboat School in Athlone
    • John Roberts West Galway School of Navigation in Clifden
    • Niall Mac Allister in West Cork Sailing
    • David Gerard in Sea Craft in Wicklow
Google will find them all for you.

I have to admit a bias in that I am a past pupil of both Stuart and John but both of them also speak highly of the other two.

Niall and Stuart are also both Instructor trainers who actually train instructors for the other ISA schools.

:) Have you looked at Sail Cork with Eddy English, excellent courses and super sailing.

Can recommend David Jerrard (note spelling), I think he is out of action though at the moment, usually uses DMYC in Dun Laoghaire

    Hi Noby,
Sorry I'm a bit slow with this response - but if you haven't already signed up elsewhere you should try Michael Caine at the Carlingford Sailing School. I spent a week there on my comp crew course last year and had a fantastic week sailing to the Isle of Man and back.

Michael is also a former chef so it's worth doing his course for the food alone! He instructs up to yachtmaster level.
Carlingford is a really nice spot also if you're not familiar with it.
Good luck wherever you decide to do it.

Cheers. Unfortunately, due to other circumstances, it's looking like I'll be postponing this for a season.

    Hi guys,

Im not sure, would the above apply to cruiser day skipper also as Im aware there is a difference. I am looking to do a cruiser day skipper course in Dublin or wicklow and Im trying to figure out what my best options are?

What difference? As far as I'm aware there's just the one day skipper qualification - although it does have a shore-based element that is recommended but not required. Never heard of a "cruiser day skipper"

For the record, I did this last summer (2009) from Wicklow with http://www.sailsoutheast.com/ amd would highly recommend it.
