So if you have a ready to go or had, what was the highest amount of credit you ever had in your phone at any one time and why?

For me it was 33.56:eek: Bought a €20 Top Up without bothering to do the *174#

I've only ever had a bill phone.

Everyone I know seems to be permanently in a state of running out of credit... how do you people live like that?

I had about 3-4 hundred on my very first meteor phone, they had only launched so I bought a phone and there was 300 on the sim card aswell as the free credit that came with it. I only copped the 300 after a couple of days when I rang to check my balance. It was sweet cos I rang them about it and they just left it there!!

about €50, I'm on bill pay now though. Much easier, it was a pain in the arse having to go buy credit.

why did you ring them to brag?

I think i had IR£80 like a previous poster when it all came lumped on a new phone

Had no credit because Meteor charged me for calls by mistake so I got my credit back and a bit extra. (10 altogether) Topped up with 20 for my free calls/texts. Phone broke, had to get another one, got 20 free for registering, had 50 on the phone. Going to top up with 20 to get my free calls/texts at the end of the month, will get 10 euro a month for doing so. (At the moment I have 46.23.

Bit of a false economy really, I'm spending loads of money just to get the free calls and texts! In fairness, I text a lot and call my friend for free a lot, so it's all good.

I do remember my sister having over 80 euro credit at some stage.

It goes faster because you think you have loads and call or text loads.

I rang to see why it was there, I was afraid that the would take it back and when I put more credit in they would take what I used out of it and I could have been in a big minus!

About €100 shortly before I moved to billpay and was getting heavily pissed off with topping up every few days.

I don't see why anyone over the age of 18 is still using kiddie methods of paying for it. I was having to put €150+ a month on, same network my average bill is now 60. Calls and data actually cost reasonable amounts, not obscene ones.

Something along the lines of 180 euros, I switched over to o2 and they messed up and I ended up with lots of credit.

They simply survive by borrowing my bleedin bill phone! /shakes fist!!

I topped up my phone by €200 before a holiday a couple of years ago. Stupid idea.

Dunno what my max amount was, I suppose around €60

I'm 24 and still use pay as you go because it only costs me around €20 a month and I get free texts to meteor (lots of my family / friends are on that). I text topup with my bank account once a month to get my free texts for the month. Cant understand people paying bills and line rental when there's a cheaper option :p Couldn't be handier!

Hundred odd going to the US.

Now on a company phone so think I have about €3 left on my other sim.

Max amount about 40-50 yoyos. I only spend about 30 euro a month so no point getting a bill pay phone. Oh, and the AIB text top-up is so handy I can't believe everyone doesn't do it!

Yeah but you're bound to line rental like I'm bound to topping up €20 a month. I don't see it as being too different but I have the freedom to not topup if I so wish ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,184 ✭✭✭✭L1011

The "line rental" includes 200 minutes, which I always use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,234 ✭✭✭Malteaser!

At the momenet the most I'd have is 20e, and that has to last me the whole month. It's not so bad though coz all my friends are Meteor so I can text them for free and if I need to get in touch with someone who isn't, they get a call me.

I used to have a bill phone and it was hundreds every month but I had to switch to pay as you go coz I bought a car and couldn't afford both!!

maybe not everyone spends 150 a month?

i have 5c calls on meteor pre pay so 60 minutes costs me €3. on the lowest meteor tariff there are two options, one of which is €20 for 60 minutes, after which you get 5c calls. so for i would be spending €20 on my first 60 minutes instead of €3.

the higher tariffs don't have that problem but i don't spend enough to make them worthwhile

and unless you have a data bundle, the data is the same price. i have a data bundle on my other phone that costs me €6 a month for effectively unlimited data. also pre pay

over the usage of my old phone number i had for 3 years i spend €5,700+ it was interesting to hear...

I spent €70 once calling my bf at the time

I can understand that, but I'm not bound to a contract every month and i havent seen any contract that would only cost me €20 for the usage I get from my pay as you go. I'm sure your bill pay suits yourself, that's fine, I'm just making the point that it makes sense for some of us 'over 18year olds' to still use the 'kiddy' method

+1. It ends up being cheaper having a bill phone. Who could be bothered with credit? The most i ever had on a bill though was €160. I went on holidays without my boyfriend, who was in New Zealand. Man, those texts were expensive! Can you imagine how much credit I would have used for the same amount of texts though?!

probably exactly the same amount. generally the prices for texts are the same

Do you only put on exactly 20 euros a month, every month? Or is there the odd tenner extra here and there? Meteor Talk 60 is about 23 quid and the included call value is more than 20 quid credit buys.

It would be just the €20, topped up on my way back from lunch just because Meteor told me my month was up, had €3 credit left ;) Only a very rare month would I spend more than the €20, December would probably go over as there are more phone calls at Christmas. Not too shabby!

One of my brothers topped up his phone a few years back and when he checked his balance he had €1,001,020 give or take a few thousand.:D This gradually decreased over the weekend until a few days later it reverted back to €20. Not sure if he used it all up but he made a good go of it.

its €20 and as i said on the previous page it would cost me €17 more than pre pay because i have 5c meteor calls

Most credit I had would have been round the £80 mark a few years ago when I bought a new phone and the credit came all at once.

Cathoo - I'm in agreement with you - I used to have a billpay phone for years, but switched over to the prepaymethod as it suits me better. If I don't use the phone much over a month, I don't have to top up, whereas when I was on billpay, I was bound to pay a certain amount regardless of whether I used it or not. I'd be around the 20 euro a month usage too nowadays.

Makes sense for me to use "the kiddie" method too, as I'm not tied to a contract, so I can change providers or phone model when I want to, instead of being tied into a 12 month contract and a guaranteed bill each month regardless of usage, instead of paying for what I actually use in a given month. Data bundles don't apply as I prefer to use a laptop with broadband (never saw the point of web-browsing on a mobile), I only ever use the phone for making/taking calls and texts, and setting reminders and alarms, even if it is a snazzy camera/mp3/alldancing/allsinging model ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 149 ✭✭ryanairzer

I've never had more than €10. I get my phone, use the tenner that comes with in a week, and spend the rest of the month waiting for the fresh tenner to come and pissing everbody off with callmes. Then by the time they've given me the full €80 I tend to have lost it or dropped it into the toilet or something so I buy a new one.
