Thanks very much to all of you in Waterford who went the toilet and didn't wash your hands. The whole room basically became a giant petri dish over the weekend and loads of us left smothered with the flu.

Next time I catch any of you filthy people coming out the door of the toilet still buttoning up your fly having obviously not washed and dried your hands I'll drag you back in by your eye lids.

God help the people who made the final table having handled chips that basically belonged to everyone in the tournament.

Genitals to hands, hands to chips, chips go else where, chips to hands, hands to mouth. You get the picture.

I really should lock this rant, but in the vain hope that this might shame some people who are splash and dashers into washing your hands I'll leave it open until a more sensible mod closes it.

Instead of having people in toilets who try to effectively sell you towels and deoderant, they should have people who force everyone to wash their hands. Horrible.

It's not theory. It's fact. The majority of men/poker players do not wash their hands.

Great, If I get a STD I can tell the wife it's from the poker chips, NO'D said so :D:D:D

I think maybe the flu can be passed in other ways, that's not to say one shouldn't wash their hands

probably very true but I don't think it's the cause of flu

That area beyond the underpants is such a festuring diseased part of the body. It's a wonder it doesn't spread to the rest of our poor fragile forms. I suspect the nether regions, like our own minds, believes in it's own filth.

OMG I touched skin on a part of my body below the waist I must clean myself.

I remember a french film a long time ago with a great quote - "There are two kinds of men in this world. Those with dirty pricks who need to wash their hands and those with clean pricks who don't need to"

I wash my hands before touching my cock. :p

Seriously though, saw this happen plenty myself over the weekend, one of my real pet hates of live poker is the lack of personal hygene displayed by many. Please lads use the shower in the hotel room at least once a festival.

but if you do please wash your hands afterwards!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭cuterob

i also feel fine and i couldnt make it!!

but seriously i dont think people handling themselves in the jacks and not washing their hands lead to the flu..more so- people already having the flu and sneezing into their hands and not tissues and then not cleaning their hands afterwards and then handling cards, chips, shaking hands etc

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 900 ✭✭✭CaptainNemo

I don't think flu bacteria are carried particularly in urine or the genitals. I think it's much more likely to have been spread by coughing, sneezing, etc.

This isn't to say that not washing one's hands isn't disgusting! Just that I don't think you can blame it for your flu symptoms.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,859 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

And when most people say they have the flu, they certainly don't. If you had the flu you would not be posting on boards about it until about 4 days after you first realised you had it.

most of the jacks ive come across in cardrooms you'd pick up more bacteria washing your hands in the sinks and useing the drying facilities(damp roller towels that dont roll, wet bar of soap, wet tap heads, wet exit door handles etc) than you would by not washing your hands. S.E is the only jacks that cuts mustard imo and i always use the ground floor one because the taps are always dry and the floor under the standing area of the urinals is likely to be drier than the poker room level.

"The dangers of not washing your hands

Despite the proven health benefits of hand washing, many people don't practice this habit as often as they should — even after using the toilet. Throughout the day you accumulate germs on your hands from a variety of sources, such as direct contact with people, contaminated surfaces, foods, even animals and animal waste. If you don't wash your hands frequently enough, you can infect yourself with these germs by touching your eyes, nose or mouth. And you can spread these germs to others by touching them or by touching surfaces that they also touch, such as doorknobs.

Infectious diseases that are commonly spread through hand-to-hand contact include the common cold, flu and several gastrointestinal disorders, such as infectious diarrhea. While most people will get over a cold, the flu can be much more serious. Some people with the flu, particularly older adults and people with chronic medical problems, can develop pneumonia. The combination of the flu and pneumonia, in fact, is the eighth-leading cause of death among Americans."

is this one of those im the villain post ? :)

in one or 2 of the joints i frequent be advised to never wash your hands after using the toilet as the sinks are also used as a toilet

I thought the flu was a respiratory virus? While it is disgusting to think of the amount of bacteria of an excretary nature that must be all over the cards/chips, I doubt it was the source of your flu.

Maybe you could split it into two rants. Actually I think if we bring this stuff to the rhyming thread we could have real gold.

Now if you'd complained about the sores all over your face...

Once you wash you hands, most people use the hand dryers, these blow dust and germs on to your hands straight away. Th you open the bathroom door with your hand, more germs.
In fact, you probably get more germs from your keyboard than from the toilet.

Although, a lot of poker players are filthy and should get water on tehm any chance they get.

I'll take dryer dust over urine, excrement and fecal matter any day, and I usually either push the door open with my feet or protect my hand with my sleeve.

Agreed Nicky, there is a lot of filthy bastards out there IMO, not just in the pokerverse.

But to be honest, whatever bout the ingestion of germs/bacteria in general we are bombarded with em' everywhere and anywhere at all times.

Lucky enough any piece of microbial infectious material thingymajigs that reaches my stomach is dealt with rather swiftly by a dose of high spec, high quality hydrochloric acid. "Take that sukaz"

Anything infectious that usually gets passed there, well..... more power to it and it and at that stage probably deserves to strike me down with something.

    Wash the hands lads please.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,700 ✭✭✭tricky D

Filthy, filthy environment. A top tip I give to new dealers is to wash their hands as much as possible especially when leaving the table. After a session of dealing there's usually a frightening strip of grime on the little finger side of the pitching hand. Also and very importantly for all avoid touching your eyes and mouth as much as possible. As the hospital poster says, the 10 greatest sources for infection are your fingers.

Could all the poker dealers in clubs out there please PLEASE ask their floor managers to wash their chips and find some way to clean their tables (there are hand held water-vacuum washers out there). Coming back from a nights play with enough grim under each fingernail to plant spuds is pretty yuck...

I remember calling the Merrion floor-manager over to explain that his chips seemed to be covered with people, at one point. Honest to God, this is no word of a lie, but when I started playing poker I used to think the chips were magnetised (because they stuck together) and I couldnt work out a reason. Confused the hell out of me in fact :)

Stick them in a washing machine overnight please... thanks!

    DeV.
