This time to Hanley who I think deserves his own thread and will be competing in the WDFPA World Powerlifting Championships in Scotland this Sunday.

Hanley has lifted in 5 powelifting competitions to date and this will be his second time representing Ireland at the Worlds, an impressive achievement for such a young age. At his last comp he posted best lifts of a 220kg squat, 155kg bench and 220kg deadlift at 87.8kg, 20 years old but that was way back at the start of the year and has since pulled 250kg and benched 180kg, in the gym.

I have a feeling that massive weights are gonna be moved this weekend!!

So GOOD LUCK to Hanley!! :)

Nope, powerlifting ain't that kinda sport. I'll be there with my trusty camera though, and no doubt he'll get them youtubed asap and straight up here when he's done.

They say the kilt is optional, knowing Ham he'll be boring and stick with the singlet though!! ;)

Many thanks to Malteaser for starting this thread..... And also to all of those who have replied to wish me luck. All the hard work is done and dusted now so I've just gotta keep a clear head and hit my planned lifts.

Based off what I've done in the gym I should hit my goals, but unfortunately you can never know what's going to happen until you're under the bar. I will say don't expect massive things from me on the bench tho. Certainly not 180kg. I'm carrying a bit of a shoulder injury so it's limiting my bench somewhat, and going straight into a heavy bench after 3 max squats is something I haven't done in training so I just have to hope it holds together.

All of my compeition gear, food and water is en route to Scotland as we speak. My parents were driving over so I filled the car with everything I need so as not to risk being unable to get something over there...

Not the best of pics, but from left to right (hanging up) is m squat suit, bench shirt and deadlift suit.

    DSC09600.jpg

    And here we have...
    Belt
    Knee wraps
    Elbow sleeves
    Squat shoes
My trusty cons to bench in
    Deadlift slippers
    Deadlift socks
Suit slippers to help get all my gear on,
    Wrist wraps
    My Hercules t-shirt
    A singlet
    A big bag of chalk
    Baby powder
    Deep heat
    A pair of shorts
My big Hercules bag to put it all in!!

Not a sport you can really travel light with....

An army marches on it stomach... so here's what I'll be chowing down on.

    DSC09602.jpg

    3 Boxes of Jaffa Cakes
    5 Protein Bars
    RAM
    Xplode II
    2 Shakers
    1 Water Bottle
4 Sachets of Diarolyte to keep me well hydrated
1 Tub of Lucozade powder (enough to make 6 litres)
And not in the picture... a 6 pack of 1.5l Ballygowans (so 9 litres of water too!)

    And the finished product...

    DSC09604.jpg

If nothing else I'm well prepared.

What openers are you going with?

220/155/235 for a 20kg PR total is the plan for my openers (squat/bench/dead like)

After that I've already decided the MOST I'll do. I won't be taking any stupid attempts that I'm more likely not to get than to get in the hopes of glory. The lifts I want will give me an 80-100kg total PR since Feburary. So even if I am capable of more it's still a massive success.

This is the world championships after all, and the total is what matters. I'd rather leave 5kg on the platform with my squat then take a 5kg jump too much and lose maybe 15kg off my total.
