In a bid to get these done in time for the SSF game, I'm going to get these cracking.

So for this thread, just post up a nominations for the above. I'm sure there are some tourney's coming up in the next few weeks that may affect this, but since this is to be based on the whole year not the last tournament they held, I'm putting it up now.

So nominate away, I'll post up the poll on Friday or Saturday.

Would Connie's place not be classed as a Poker Room?

Or does he have a seperate Independent Tournament Organisation as well, if so, I assume it's called "Munster Poker Tour"??

EDIT: As most of you will know I don't play Tournaments nor do I really play Live outside of the cash games in the "Casino's" in Dublin so you'll have to work with me on this catagory.

Yes, it is slightly confusing, I'll check if Muso had a definition for the difference.

But for now I'm taking Independant tournament Organiser to mean anyone that is Independent from a Brick and Mortar "Casino"/Card Room [EDIT: And who organises Poker tournaments obv].

And for Poker Room of the year it will be any Fixed premises, Brick and Mortar "Casino"/Card Room.

    Clear?

I'm giving a shout out to my ex-overlords and nominating PPP/Merrion for orgainising the Irish Open. Amazing event tbh.

just dont know if it satisfies 'independent'....

Well since PPP is not a Brick & Mortar "Poker Club" and the Merrion no longer exists. (I assume CHL is not the same entity even though they operate out of the same building) and the Irish Open had nothing to do with CHL's (AFAIK), I'll allow it unless someone proves me wrong.

Well it was basically the jackpot that ran the IO. I dont think they should get a nomination jus for the IO when you have groups like JP Poker, GJP and Big Slick running events on a regular basis

Remember its not a vote, you only have to nominate once.

Well if it was ran by the Jackpot then it won't count.

But if someone organised Tournaments (even 1) and are Independent from a "Casino"/Cardroom then I'll allow them to be nominated (within reason), but whether they get any votes or not is another matter. [NOTE: Obviously where open to the General Public]

If someone organises a once-off Festival or Tournament and it is by far the best organised and ran tournament/ Festival of the year, just because they don't host it every month or week I don't think should stop them from getting nominated. But again I'll take it on a case by case basis, as I don't think this issue will arise.

I think the jackpot should be allowed under both this section and brick and mortar.

I wasn't at the EPT but the IO was a great achievement !!

I think PPP and Jackpot together maybe?

pity this is being done this week. If it was after the Waterford event in the
Woodlands it would have to be BSP. Make your judgement closer to the weekend, this is going to be a great event.

The only problem might be the Hotel, they need to improve their act from the last time & BSP arefully aware of this

It probably won't matter as they won't win anyhow, but I have given my opinion on this to Ste who will make the decision.

There are only 2 nominations (maybe 3) in with a shout of this I think, and I have a suspicion who will win by a margin.

The Big Slick Poker Crew: professionally run tournaments with transparent structures and top class staff.

I might have griped with their touchiness over stupid criticisms but I'm afraid to say this due to concerns over IP:D

This nomination came about back in the day when I and most others would have voted for the Fitz against any other tournament organisers so I thought it better to single out organisers doing things without the benefit of having a brick and mortar club to do it with.

So the Fitz would not qualify wheras the Celtic Poker Tour would. Although I'm older, wider* and more corrupt these days. If I was still a mod here I would probably ban CPT from being nominated for anything other than Mugger of the Year.

    * meant to say wiser but I'm wider too so what the heck.

    Poker Ireland are nominated.

I'll decide on PPP/Merrion.Jackpot tomorrow, but it's highly doubtful they'll be included. If they had the Jackpot working with them, as it appears they did, then the IO would just go towards the Jackpot's claim for Poker Room of the Year.

This award is for people not affiliated to a B&M Casino and it appears they were.

    I'll confirm this tomorrow.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,506 ✭✭✭Shortstack

We have not organised a tournament outside of a B&M cardroom of any note this year so you should technically remove us from this. Thanks to all those who nominated us though :)

The Jackpot/Merrion worked with both PPP & EPT for the two big events this year.

The IPO was also 50% held in the Jackpot/Collossus.

Very grey area this one :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,724 ✭✭✭nicnicnic

poker events deserve a nomination for last January's IPC.

I nominated bigslick for this last year and got a lot of sniggers and only one or two votes. If this weeks game is as good as the team event and Waterford open then I think they will win the award this year although could be close with JP.

eitherway shows great progress for Neill and the lads over the year so fair play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,418 ✭✭✭BIG-SLICK-POKER

Also Agree Poker events . My favourite events .

Jp Has taken Dublin by storm this year .

Connie has started up also on the road with Munster Poker Tour

Credit Due to Poker Ireland i mean getting 1072 players to an events is amazing and deserves a nomination ....

G.J.P even though they pulled out also

But if i was voting and also wih us there i would pick Poker Events as even though some people have a few gripes i think they set the bar in Ireland and we all followed suit in some way or form

PPP work with the Merrion on the Irish Open. Technically we sponsor it and they run it. But I would like to point out that this is a VERY grey area. As you post states "ORGANISER" the organiser of the Irish Open is paddypowerpoker.

I might add that the PPP team is nominated this year as tournament organiser of the year by poker Europa so they do not make this distinction.

Anyway if it sits outside your criterea to be involved with a B&M club zen I hope I have helped clear that up.

I love the fact that an internet poll matters so much to so many people. In a few years will we be having a black tie affair in some hotel on the back of these polls??? :p

I've always been of the view that if there is doubt/confusion about anybody participating in the poll then include that person/group on the poll and the voters on boards will make their own minds up very sharpish.

What makes these awards worth winning isn't because there are a load of votes but because it's an informed audience weighing up the issues and making a call on the year as a whole. If it was about getting loads of votes lots of interest groups could rig the poll if they so wished but there would be no legitimacy so what would be the point.

Personally I still haven't made my mind up whether I'll be voting for JP or Big Slick but given their achievements over the year it'll be one or the other and the fact that a massive commercial organisation like PPP ran a very good prestigious tournie (I wasn't so impressed by the side events but I know BCB is going to address that this year :p) will be weighed against the way the two other organisers have really brought great mid range buyin value to the masses.

In summary if in doubt stick the event in and the voters will decide imho.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 914 ✭✭✭PPP-Pit Boss

Yeh good points Olly. Maybe just remove any event organiser associated to a poker room online or off.

    So dont include
    PPP (Ipoker Network)
    GJP (Ipoker Network)
    Poker Ireland (Mermaid / Boss)
    BSE (Ipoker Blonde)
    JP Poker (Ipoker Titan)

    That leaves
    Celtic poker tour (YAY)
    Connie O'Sullivan
    Poker Events

Well guess were my vote is goin \o/

I'm pretty sure Celtic poker tour and betfair have an agreement :p

Tbh Nikki I organised a very good poker game myself during 2007 so I'm waiting for the nominations to roll in :D I'm still waiting for the right online sponsorship deal if you are interested??

KNICKERS - There goes my pole position vote :p
    Connie FTW!

PPP - do not sponsor home booze ups! -
No seriously we entertain all proposals and find some highly entertaining.
