Has anyone ever eaten here and complained about the food?
I ate here once and it was awful but we decided to give it a go again yesterday and they served us pure muck. I should have complained because i had an uneaten dinner left over and so did my bf. My bf didn't want us to make a scene so we paid and left.
Never again. Chicken was gone off by the taste of it. Just a word of warning!

I have never eaten anything besides the potato wedges but others I have been there with have had no complaints.
We haven't eaten there since Feis Garden opened above it.
The food and the staff are lovely.

I had lasagne there during the summer, NEVER AGAIN. It tasted ok but you can never get a nice Lasagne anywhere, very hard. The next day was ropey all day, downstairs was v sore by end of day and felt naueous all day.

I know, we probably would have been sick judging by the taste and look of the chicken but we didn't eat enough of it. Yuck. The staff in the Hamlet are lovely, just the food that's off.

Fei's garden is a lovely place, the staff are great there and the food is great. We were there the 2nd night it opened and to this day they still give us a free drink or 2 everytime we go in there!

I have never eaten the food but the Guinness is only delicious, and as said before the staff are really nice.

never eaten there, just had a kopparberg cider there (its so hard to get this kind of cider in balbriggan?!).

did not like it so much - better stick with the traditional pubs (ig. milestone) :D:o

    That's a bit uncalled for isn't it, than again I ain't a local I'm a blow in.

Back on topic and in a more civil manner, I've eaten there a few times and never had a problem with the food at all, the service is great also. Maybe I was lucky, but I'd have no problem recommending it at all.
What day / time did you eat there?

You aren't any good at baking then are you, 'cos I need's a big slice of humble pie, only yesterday on a different forum, I was trying to get across how "off the cuff" jokes don't travel well over the internet and often get misunerstood:o

I know it's off topic, but I just went around to the Ice Box 20 minutes ago and it was closed, the lights were on but the shutter (behind the door) was half way pulled down, I thought they closed at ten. Does anyone know exactly what time they normally close?

I was going to enjoy having the house to myself with some Erdinger and a few smokes, now I'm stuck with two bottle's of Erdinger and now smokes. Don't suppose anyone in the Barrons Hall area is feeling charitable......

I ate there on a Sunday and it was dreadful, i was so looking forward to a nice sunday dinner all day :(
And we ate there midweek, think it was a Wednesday evening after work and it was shocking again.
    No exaggeration..the worst ever!

If your into the usual pub dinners there is plenty of good ones around the town. The Milestone for good old fashioned pub fair, the Hotel is good, the Harvest is not bad and if you travel just a wee bit the Balrothey is always very good.

ah gillo had i of known you were out of cigarettes i could have sent a few around to you.

Any hoo , the hamlet has a new chef now , he started on the 24th :)

Personally I have not had a bad meal in in there
himself loves the chicken wings, thai noodle dish and the friendly bar staff

Fei Garden is very hit and miss, they could not do enough for you when it first started but the meat in there is very second rate now.

The ice box closes at 11 I think U were unlucky gillo

The Huntsman just north of Balbriggan is great also, although it the decor is a bit grotty. I've eaten there many a time.

Fair point Bluetonic, but considering that it is ten minutes drive north, I thought it'd be ok.

And to make things worse, I mixed it up with the pub across the road from it, I actually meant the Cock Tavern.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 18,986 Mod ✭✭✭✭Moonbeam

It took me a minute to work out the relevance of Bluetonics link there.

The food in The Harvest is nice, and there is a good choice.

I might give it one last chance now you said that!! It would be so handy for us if the food was nice. The Harvest is nice food alright, good hearty dinners!

The pints in Hamlet are fairly lovely all the same, ive only ever gotten the wedges and profiteroles in their so i cant really judge on anything else. I think the general layout of the pub is crap, tellys in awkward positions if youwanna see match (which is the main reason I go their cos I work in Dunnes across the road.)

Now folks, no Dunnes bashing please:D

I've never gone over to watch a match, but yeah. It'd be hard enough to get a good view.

    Dunnes bashing??
Go right ahead, it's one of the perks of working there! You can get a good inside view of how **** it actually is!!

Ditto, it's so handy and would be great if the food was good. We would be there a couple of nights a week if that was the case!
I haven't been able to bring myself to eat there again since originally posting this, honestly feel like it would be like throwing money down the toilet and being left hungry after!
After reading this I definitely won't be trying it again. Pity!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4 sueandjoe

I know its a pity, cause it started off very good, but thats life.does anyone know of any good gigs around balbriggan area, you cant beat a good pint and some decent live music:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭blastman

For live music watch out for Randy Roxx in the hotel. Actually it's worth just checking out his poster. Eighties hair-tastic!

Actually, the hotel have a couple of good players in there during the week, couple of different acts, mainly two guys with guitars. Avoid the Monday night "seisun" though.

I had forgotten about the session on a Monday!
Is it still loads of guitarists and 3 tin whistles?

The Man O' War has a great Monday session.

After reading your prose,I doubt that you not frequenting the aforementioned pub will give Keith sleepless nights.
John D's is opening in a few weeks, you'll enjoy it there...

On a sidenote to this thread (as I dont think it needs a whole new thread to answer this question)..if I wanted to use the Hamlet, are there any atm's around there? I know there is one in Dunnes but is that the only one around unless you go into the town itself?

The one in Dunnes tends to not work on weekend evenings - I don't know if this is done to discourage people just going in to use it or not but it seems to happen a lot. There's no other ATMs around there, nearest one would be in the Sail In garage beside the Garda station.

What is the story with the Hamlet, are they ACTIVELY trying to run it into the ground?
Has anyone else noticed that the place is now full with every scumbag gouger that has been banned from the other pubs in the town.

Its a f**king joke. All the place is short of is a shooting or stabbing. They need to sort it out and get this sort of scum out of the place. I live not too far away and am ashamed that such an establishment exists beside us...

Really rude and offencive. Please keep your cruel comments to yourself.
My brother lives up that way and loves it.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 2,688 Mod ✭✭✭✭Morpheus

Ignore that silly comment, I wasnt mad about the area myself but eventually I purchased a house there and like it. My gripe is with the type of customer that the hamlet is allowing to be served. I know for a fact the people being served are barred in other establishments and for very good reasons, as to how I know well I worked in a few of them through the years and saw what these same people will get up to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

I've heard similar stories about that place. A friend of mine works in the off license beside it and some of the stories he has told me about the clientele of the Hamlet would put you completely off going next nor near the area though.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 2,688 Mod ✭✭✭✭Morpheus

Its true and I along with others have TOLD the owner to stop serving these people. The place used to be a nice stop before a night out but now I would rate it as probably the last place I would go to in the town for a pint. shame as I can see the place from my home.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭cathy01

I dont drink there, but I do hate seeing young children being roared at by drunken parents.
Also the group of peole you have to pass through wehn going to Feis garden would put you off.I think , in the beginning it was nice.Shame, its gone downhill.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

You could say the same for De Bruins and John D's before the 'incident' too, lovely pubs ruined by the sheer greed of its owners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,015 ✭✭✭rccaulfield

There pubs not creches- people go there to take legal drugs and these days owners are allowing allsorts in to keep there head above water so thats that! I give them a bit of business when i can with ordering trays of food and drinks for special occasions. Place isn't that bad- i pass by it on foot daily!

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 2,688 Mod ✭✭✭✭Morpheus

If they stopped allowing "allsorts" in they would get better customers and more of them.
