Ratio of major lifts

    Whats the 'normal' ratio of weignts for the major lifts. Squats, press etc.
    Taking my bench as unit normal (1) then I have
    Squat : 1.65
    Deadlift: 1.25
    Bicep curl: .66

    anyway here is a list of standards for different lifts so it is probably a better indicator to compare your lifts to these rather then comparing your lifts to each other. However if you really want you could work out the standard ratios from it

    I'd be much more concerned about why your squat is significantly bigger than your deadlift. Have you injuries that hinder you?

    I've only recently got into it and its one of those exercises where I'm not running at full steam yet.

    Ah sure don't be worrying about ratios and such then, just concetrate on getting stronger. Even at this early stage though if there's that much of a discrepanyc between the squat and DL you probably need to do more hamstring work - a grossly neglected bodypart and will hold you back if it's not given its dues.

    I'd also question if the squat was actually a squat (i.e. breaking parallel). Heck, how much higher would our "squat" be if all we had to do was slighly bend our knees?

    rofl we'd all be sooooooooper strong :D You're right though, it's such a shame when people kid themselves that they're "squatting" (a general comment, not directed at the OP!). If it's not deep enough to sit on the loo, it's not a squat.

    Haha! I was doing squats for the first time this morning and thinking "I must look so silly doing this, I feel like I am trying to sit on the crapper with someone sitting on my shoulders.
    I shall use your ladylike terminology to determine if I am doing them correctly in future :D

    I have actually used a loo where I only needed to quarter squat to sit on it (ok it was in an old folks home but still)

    If I was to only squat as deep as I would if I was going to a toilet I'd still be high.

    Thats what hit me when I was just walking into college there. I wasnt going on my 1RM which I dont actually know. So I'm hovering close to intermediate level which is ok I suppose. And its really just the untrained weights that looked a bit high to me.

    I believe they call it a box squat now a days?? ;)

    Try squatting like you would onto the can tho and youll fall on your ass. You need to open your knees and sit down, not just back.

    EDIT: Especially with anything outside of a crazy wide WPO style stance.
