i have heard that instant noodles contain a lot of trans fats.

are they ok as a convenient carb source or do these fats undo any carb benefit.

i had been eating these with tins of tuna/salmon for a convenient meal in between main meals

They are usually white flour, so will result in insulin spikes, like eating sugar or white bread. And 500kcal+ per pack, I think one tesco variety is ~650kcal for a single pack that is under 100g (dry). So if you are trying to lose weight, it is a bad idea to snack on them between meals. With a tin of tuna it is probably more kcal than the main meals you are eating.

Dunno about the trans fats, depends on brand, check the label.

Indeed. Or enough chicken breasts to sink a small fleet.

I dont like salmon but most eat it on brown bread, like mc-cambridges, which is better carbs for you.

It's probbably better to jsut not eat anything because nearly everything is goign to have some possible downside.

    Ok maradona,

Since you seem to have the dietary and nutrional understanding of an unkempt anus...

If you're going to take in an excess of calories to gain weight (in the form of lean muscle) then you need lots of training and good calories.

How supernoodles could be considered as a good source of calories is beyond me.

So take in more protein, vegetables and good carbohydrates that won't make you starving five minutes after eating them. So lots of complex carbs: brown bread, grains, pasta etc if that's the route you have to go down. Personally I'd be in favour of lots of nice meat, vegetables and fruit.

    Colum

gem what do you mean deserved

There's nothing inherently wrong with eating raw fish. There's always the mild risk of acquiring roundworm or tapeworm from it, but it's no bigger a risk than getting salmonella from eggs i.e. statistically speaking nothing to get your kickers twisted over. Fish have much less connective tissue than land animals do, so eating their flesh uncooked is a heck of a sight easier than trying to chomp down on uncharred steak.

Unlike eggs (whose bioavailability increases with cooking) there's no real difference in protein digestion from raw vs. cooked fish. So to the best of my knowledge I can't imagine why raw would be *better* than cooked. Unless it's something to do with the cooking processes involved - smoking and salting will add unecessary high levels of sodium to your diet. If you have the article or can reproduce the appropriate text I'd love to see it?

It contains some wheatflour, wholemeal is the main one. I mentioned this in several threads. I was really pointing out that you should read labels carefully and understand how they are structured, i.e. main % ingredient listed first. And learn how to tell is stuff is really watered down, or using some other trick, e.g. marketed as "low fat" yet is high in sugar, or e.g. milk is 4.5% fat, but the portion could be 1000g, so it is a high fat portion.

Mc-cambridges is a good choice a lot better than most, a lot of "brown breads" are basically just dyed, or have enough wholemeal to get around any advertising restrictions (if any) to call it "brown". In some breads the wheat flour is way down the list- in these cases I think it may be only used to breed/grow/develop the yeast, for a whole variety of bread in the same factory

In the other thread you were banging on about steroids in whey and how you wouldnt touch it, yet you are then wondering about supernoodles which most would consider far less healthy. There are lots of knowledgeable people on board here, ill-informed arguments will just leave you blanked by people who would otherwise be of great help to you. For somebody who was apparently reading up on studies on food etc, it is strange that you would not already know if noodles were a good choice or not.

my argument was that whey could be contaminated and seeing that no one can prove that the supplements arent ill stick with food products

Yes keep eating like an amateur and you will get amateur results.

Whats the point in asking a question with a goal in mind if you do not like the answers your getting.

Noodles - wouldn't feed them to a dog - full of msg and have the nutritional benefits of a bowl of sugar.

There are lots of options so just keep working at it

Can you prove ANYTHING? Honest question. Is it possible to prove anything in this game without contention and beyond a shadow of a doubt?

Can you prove the food you're eating isn't contaminated? What about the rumours of cows and chickens being fed growth hormones? Does THAT not concern you?

I understand that you plan on digging your heals in on this supplement issue. But to be so unaware of what you're ingesting in other areas really doesn't do you any favours when it comes to looking for advice here.

Correct ! Those instant noodles are the most dreadful food on earth. Packed with MSGs and God knows what else.

Noodles are bad stuff, pretty funny that you would come down on whey so hard but you think noodles might be ok.
