    The plan is this

A one day event hosted up here in DCU on the Saturday the 15th of December where fellow boards members share the knowledge

    Topics that could be covered
    - Fine Art
    - Music
    - Landscape
    - Sports
    - Studio
    - Marco
    - Documentary
    - Other

If you think you could talk for about 45 minutes to a group about what techniques, equipment, post processing you use and answer a few questions then please volunteer.

    Facility's at your disposal
    - Digital projector
    - Computer
    - Fast wireless
    - White board

Once we have the speakers organized then I will create another thread.

Count me in for documentary photography!!!
I don't know anything about it (almost), my English is horrible, but I HAVE TO learn talking in front of people.
I'll bring photos or PPS presentation on USB or CD.

December the 15th, I'll be ready. Will you? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

    That's a terrific idea Sebzy,

I'd like to do this but am out of the country from 30Nov to 9 Dec if this is a problem. I would come along though...

Whatever medium you want and remember guys just because ThOnda has volunteered for documentary dose not mean you can't.

if one subject needs more coverage there may be a second session or even a second date.

Very good idea, Seb (you aren't an Ents. manager by day are you? :-)
I'd probably go along as a spectator, and a hung-over one at that, as the 14th is:

    a) a Friday
    b) my birthday

If I knew enough about any of the above topics, I would def. give it a go, but I think there are much more skilled folk here.

    B.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

Anybody with interest can come. I hope. And what's most important - it looks like next activity from group (let's get thirsty to have an excuse for visiting pub right after) :-)

By the way, what is DCU and where it is?

What is DCU?!!? I'm hoping thats sarcasm.. :D

Dublin City University ring any bells?

last I was there it was around the ballymun area - but its actual address is Dublin City University, Dublin 9 :p

Nope, I am not joking. I am not local (you should have learned that from my accent). Being here 14 months I've driven about 70.000km, but mostly outside Dublin.

Have you already noticed that people here drive on wrong side of the road? That's really strange. And scary

Thank you for information, it sounds a little more logical now. But Ballymun?

LOL Ents managers the scum of the earth.

I'm just a somebody with ideas.

It always bugs me when people say "I wish we had this or that" when all it takes is for someone to say "right lets get it"

Why? Just bring your damn flash. That'll work _MUCH_ better!

Edge of Glasnevin, technically but really, Dublin is not the centre of the universe, or even the country.

bloody great idea! I'd be especially interested in seeing peoples differing photoshop techniques.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

Count me in. I'll give a talk (if needed). Not sure what topic, but sport (rugby) seems to be what I'm doing most these days. I'm sure I can waffle about that for a while.

what is the centre of ireland, anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,744 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

sounds good -- i'd be interested in listening to music stuff -- if people wanted i could talk about documentery /other -- or whatever it is i do -- but my exhibition thing is on at that time -- but i'd certainly like to go to both

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

I'd like to listen to someone talk about the business side of things if possible. I can take photographs. I am not good at the back office stuff.

Great idea sebzy.....dont suppose theres any chance of anyone either taping it or transcribing it so i can have a look?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 282 ✭✭Clseeper

I'd be interested in coming along and getting some inspiration. I've really let work and other stuff take over my weekends. Haven't touched the camera in about two months. The shame :o

It's in my calendar. Great idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

Are we going to have gear porn at the event?

Showing the different bodies, lenses, accessories we have? Might be handy, especially for people who don't have much, they would get to see/feel/test some bits that they might be interested in, before they splash the cash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,744 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

    .

no -- thats this weekend in the RDS :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Can talk about various bits and pieces... from fashion to fine art, business, processing, exhibiting.

Plus, DCU is only a few minutes walk from my place.

Bring whatever you want and if your giving a talk bring the gear you use to show everyone.

maybe but will decide on this a bit before the event maybe a week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Sebzy

So at the moment we have the following people showing intrest in talking

Fajitas!- fashion, fine art, business, processing, exhibiting.
    ThOnda - Documentary
    thebaz - Documentary
    Paulw - Sports
    melekalikimaka - Music

We still need more much more so don't be shy it's quite easy to talk to small groups and when it's about something you enjoy it's even easier.

Cheers...willing to pay towards any costs of it, just theres no way ill make it over that close to christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

I'd be happy to tape it and stick it up on youtube or something if people want...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,393 ✭✭✭AnCatDubh

might be an idea to consider 'post processing techniques' - a number of boardies have produced techniques and tutorials and may be willing to present them if people were interested. Just a thought.

hummm this could make an interesting show/podcast. i have access to a few high end/hd cams and mics, might see bout recording this with the view to posting it online... what wouldpeoplethink about that? just a thought?

i'd possibly offera small talk on music, but i know alot less than peeps here,so its only a small possibility of me doing it. The fact i have the talk already done helps tho

I'd like to make a trip up from Waterford to hear what people have to say about different aspects of photography. Last time I was in DCU was about 7 years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Sebzy

If anyone's lost on what way to structure a talk consider this

    You have 45 minutes

    ==================
5 Minutes - Introduction on you chosen topic and a little about yourself.
10 Minutes - Quick slide show of your work pausing to answer questions.
5 Minutes - Description of the equipment you use and why you choose it.
10 Minutes - Talk about techniques and tricks you learned along the way.
5 Minutes - A little bit on post processing if any
10 Minutes - Last few questions.
    ==================

See if your capable of talking for a few minutes and replying to questions there's nothing to it.

After each session there will be a 15 minute break to facilitate the setup of the next session.

    Was thinking of an 11Am-5PM
That's 6 sessions and lots of little breaks. if you want to go for lunch feel free to skip a session.

I'd like to come listen, have absolutely nothing to offer as I'm a newbie. Great idea!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

It is getting more and more complex. However I have a little different idea about my 45 minutes, I'll try to type something like a schedule and post it here soon.

Is there anything to be explained about shooting flowers/greenery that everyone doesn't already know?

I think week in a week out, you prove there are a lot of things most of us don't know about macro photography, that you do! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

    [French accent] I know nothing![/french]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

Ah but for a lot of people a tutorial on macro is how to get closest to something, how to get the most depth of field and sharpness, and I tend to forget those things most of the time... hesitant to label it macro since it isn't generally 1:1 I shoot either. More about spotting colours and shapes and patterns.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭CraggyIslander

elven, you're not forgetting those things.... rather I'd say they're second nature to you :) hence you can concentrate on the colours and composition without hesitation.

I could probably talk for 10 minutes and pretty much rehash the wee idea #1 thread, after that I'd be stumped tho

Just occasionally capturing the details is enough to make me say wow, whereas you're way ahead and looking at the composition and color within that miniature world ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

You can count me in for having a yap about event photography and horses all the equipment and the business end of it. :)
