I came home from college today expecting to collect my new AEG, it arrived yesterday in Ireland and as before expected it to arrive to me today. It didn't, but the thing that annoys me most is that the track & trace website said: attempted delivery, no answer. I came home and got other post, no note about a undelivered parcel. I even went to the post office and she said there was no point checking for the parcel as it wouldn't arrive till tomorrow. I'm also waiting for stuff from eirsoft and according to the website it still hasn't left finglas since yesterday.

    I don't like an Post!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Same here, I have stuff from eirsoft stuck in Finglas since yesterday. An Post is a sham of a service. They can't get on little package from one side of the city to the other in two days. I get stuff from the UK quicker and for less on the delivery charge.

edit: It's actually now in PORTLAOISE MAIL CENTRE, wtf.

The tracking on an-post is dreadful. The finglas stage sometimes
is hit and miss, sometimes it flys through and sometimes it sits
there for a day or more before moving on.

Leaving a telephone number or contact number on the outside of the
package is futile. The delivery guys dont ring as standard and are not issued
with phones and when talking to an an post employee when I was collecting something they were kinda proud that they dont ring or attempt anyone.

Whats must frustrating as someone without a car and who does not drive
    is missed deliveries.

I work 8-18:00 so I am not at home when the delivery comes.
They stick in a docket saying I need to collect next day.

Now the reason I missed the delivery is I am working office hours.
And they deliver during office hours and are closed after office hours.
I cant collect the package the next day cos I am working and cant
nip out cos I dont drive.

The post office collection centre is only open 9-17:30 and closed on
Saturdays. So when I am free to collect it they are closed!!!!
Even more frustration is if you DO go in on a Saturday there IS someone
if the collection office but they dont have access to the packages held
    over the weekends!!

I sometimes get stuff delivered to work but being honest I think the
guys in our stores dept are getting sick of me getting gun like objects
delivered into work and it there is also a risk of getting into trouble
with HR if they find out or have an issue with it.

As I order nearly Everything online even my food I have found interlink
express to be very good. They will ring you if you have a contact number,
and as they are out for delivery can meet you anyplace you like.

Thats totally different in Germany. If your package is brought to the Post before 12.00 h, it will be delivered the next working day.

Packages sitting in sorting centres for up to 2 weeks, attempted drop offs with no note or phone call to tell me it happened. A supposeded drop off, when I was sitting in the front sitting room all day watching tv, with the toilet the other side of the door and a graveled drive way?

6 grands worth of computer parts sitting in front of my door for 5 hours on a rainy day because the post man decided he didnt want to bring it back to his van. Guy in the local pickup office saying he will check if there are any packages, walking 10 feet out of view, picking up a phone call, talking loudly on it and then coming back to say there is nothing there(and there was).

Oh yeah, they provide this country with a great top notch service. Like most tax floated companys, they are a shambles becuase they don't have to care. +1 for Job security, -1 for service.

my aug was posted from eirsoft on monday i think, it sat in portlaoise for a day yesterday, and was sent out for delivery today. That not too bad, but if you miss the delivery, and work office hours, youre screwed. I just hope someone was at home to accept it

My latest eirsoft order was dispatched yesterday but wont even appear on an-posts tracking
    system yet!

"An Post... Ah sure it'll be alright"

I often get bigger packages dropped off up in my neighbours, everything from AEG's to PC's. They can be brutal at times...

Finally got my package from them today even though it had arrived yesterday! So you think I'd be happy right?.... wrong!!!! They broke my stick battery that arrived today!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

GLS are almost as bad. I ordered some pc componants from dabs.ie and GLS were given the simple job of delivering.

I was at home on the day of delivery, but there were no knocks on the door, and the doorbell never rang. However, they stuck an 'Attempted Delivery' notice to the front door and a note saying they'd left the parcel with a neighbour in number 18. Slight problem....I live in number 122, over 100 houses away.

Yes, that's right. These idiots gave my goods to a random stranger at the other end of the street. The delivery guy was good enough to leave his name an mobile number on the note as well so I gave him a ring. I asked him why he deliberately delivered the goods at the wrong address and his reply left me stunned. He said "She (the neighbour) looked like the decent sort and wasn't likely to steal it. Besides, the parcel is still covered by insurance!"

I had to remind him of his companies delivery policies which are actually written on the note he left (2 attempts at delivery, then left at depot for 9 days). The guy then got all grumpy and explained that they don't follow that policy because if they have to keep bringing parcels to the depot then there isn't enough room in their vans and they have to make two trips. So apparantely, it's normal practice for them to leave the parcels with strangers who just happen to leave nearby. Absolutely amazing.

Their claims policy is annoying. Normally, you have to contact the retailer first and prove that you received the damaged goods. They then make a claim against the original post office (like Hong Kong Post etc), who then make a claim against An Post. Once everything is sorted and the retailer gets the refund from the post office, they then send you a replacement.

    Best of luck to you.

    Well present company excluded :D
    Another reason for buying local.

Remember waaaaay back when I received that childs vest and some high heel boots instead of a rifle case? Well a few weeks ago I got yet another email from uncompany again asking for me to fax them a letter stating what was missing from the parcel they sent. Why they can't use one of the emails I sent I don't know. Don't they have printers in Hong Kong?? :D. Thankfully they did send me a replacement rifle case, so I just ignore the emails now.

People are always giving out about An Post and I don't know why.
I've bought and sold 200 items on eBay with no problems, plus hundreds of items over the years with little to no delays and not one loss.

As for our current business, not one loss and we've only recieved two emails as parcels hadn't arrived within three days, they both arrived the over the next few days. Most large items arrive the next day.

People say that An Post is one of the biggest jokes in Ireland, I think they are one of the best services we have in Ireland.

If something doesn't arrive on time or a tracking update is accurate, people automatically start giving out about them. Think of the tiny proportion of deliveries they make up.
Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, but I find and have always found them to have excellent delievery times and tracking info.

Walker34: avoid ups like the plague, anything coming through ups seems to get seized these days, dont have much experience with dhl but they have to be better, EMS speedpost (delivered locally by an post) are very good

We have shipped out all our orders to customers thus far and they've all been recieved next day via An Post Registered AND An Post Standard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,012 ✭✭✭✭Cuddlesworth

Depends on the post man/van driver tbh. The problem with an-post is that 99% of their employees are great, its that sour 1% that screw things up and don't care. And unlike most company's, an-post finds it hard to fire them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭Shiva

I agree with Krazy....most of my stuff gets delivered the day after I post it, but there've been a few occasions where parcels have gone missing, and a couple of incidents where the guy doing the collection didn't bother his a** collecting the parcels because there were four or five AEGs and he couldn't be bothered humping them out to his van. The girls in the Post Office have told me he just said "ahh sure the next guy will get them".

Its just one or two tossers giving the service a bad name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Captain Chaos

A month ago when you sent the scope out to me it took a week and went to another county and back. The rifle was next day though.

If I have the option on a site not to use An Post I would tend not to use them though as they do a good job at battering boxes, than the likes of GLS or TNT.

3 packages all ordered from different parts of the world all expected around the same time none have shown up yet, common link, An post maybe I am being harsh on them but I am not happy. Two retailers have resent the items so hopefully I will get them this time.

I'd blame Customs before I'd blame An Post. They are terrible at losing stuff or messing up the contents of packaging.

I've noticed a huge deterioration in the quality of service from An Post these last 3 or 4 weeks. Where before things might not be scanned when they're picked up, so the tracking number didn't work, at least it was a good bet they'd arrive at their destination within one or two days.

I've had occasions lately where they take a week, its a 50-50 chance the tracking number will work on the tracking site, and I've had 4 items just vanish into a black hole.

Even though I'm still fairly certain the problem is at the local collection stage, I'm seriously p**sed off with them now. I'm looking into getting a next day courier service up and running for March onwards.

You're not imagining it Shiva, I've noticed a long running and gradual decline in An Post over the last 8 months. It started with my radio & headset that went inexplicably missing for 6 weeks (on 5 day airmail 'guaruanteed delivery'), followed by the latest saga that was my vest which disappeared for weeks on end as well. Both from different ends of the world, east & west. Some other recent stuff I'll just chalk up to the Chinese new year getting in the way.

In saying that, I've had other stuff take an utter age to turn up as well - from within Europe I might add - but those two were the extreme end of my delivery problems.

Just had an email from a customer who bought a P99 and a Baby Hi Capa a couple of days apart. Because I had to take personal time last week, one of the orders was delayed, and I shipped both of them to Waterford in separate packages on the same day.

One arrived with him today, and is traceable from start to finish, the other is still showing as being in the post office I dropped them off at, and he hasn't received it yet. I'm just sick and tired of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,659 ✭✭✭CrazyRabbit

I think the problem is that they are now sub-contracting out some deliveries.

My 2nd last last parcel got delivered by some group based out in the business park beside me even though it was sent via An Post. When they didn't get an answer at my door, they left a note saying they have left the parcel with a stranger at number 34. I live in number 122....2 streets away. It seemed this person in number 34 was getting a delivery as well and they had the cheek to ask them if they could leave my parcel with them.

Thankfully she was honest and decent. We both had a good laugh over it.

Sub-contractors generally don't give a **** about quality of service.

I don't trust An post, they were bad when I used them for my last business, so now I very seldom use them.
I use Fastway and then I have control over the package, I have had a few late deliveries but most are fine and no losses so far
Next day delivery 80% of the time

Let me join the party with a story. Seller sends me an envelope with 3 lightweight cables in it on the 31st of January from New York, US. I have his tracking number so it is sent. Till this very day, nothing delivered. An Post CS and customs tell me they cant do anything. I hear from their own CSR that in his own experience it took 6 weeks once to get something delivered from Florida to Dublin. A housemate tells me he waited two months once for a package from Spain to Dublin. Hopeless! USPS, the US delivery service is balls too. They cannot open an inquiry for flatrate envelopes.
I am left in the dark. For all I know the envelope is in orbit.
