I used to have cardrunners last year and all the vids played fine.. I just renewed my subscription and I'm having a problem with the DRM I think..

when i try to play it in wmp11 i get a window asking for my user name and password but when i enter this it tells me to press play when the play button becomes active but it remains greyed out..

I'm supposed to install a windows security upgrade but when i press upgrade it tells me my upgrade was unsuccessful

i've mailed them but anyone here have the same problem?

I've done virtually everything in the faq but still to no avail?

    any ideas?

ok problem solved... the wondows security upgrade needed to play these protected files wont download using opera...

use IE to upgrade and all is fine..

mods delete as appropriate...or maybe it will help someone later in a search with same problem.

any recomendations on which to watch first?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭[nicK]

cts, townsend, taylor, jman, stinger -in that order..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

Yep, [nick] has the same order as I'd have. CTS's video's are very good, watch them all first (there's only 3 so far), then make your way through sbrubgy's, then onto Taylor's or do jman's one then, after that do stinger and whoever else you fancy, but there's a sh1t load from stinger and taylor and a fair few sbrugby ones by now too, so that should take a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

Are these highly recommended? Seems like a lot of money...for a few videos!

$25 a month to watch how the best players and biggest winners in the world of online poker play the game is extremely cheap. CTS's videos are by far the best so far.

Aaron Been is very good for MTTs. Just a solid TAG style with excellent analysis.

SBRugby are decent. Tufat is very hit and miss. He did a good party one a while back but his recent 2/4 on Full Tilt is dreadful. Stingers are all excellent though his recent PLO one was abysmal. Gauchos are decent. Brymstars are meh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,700 ✭✭✭Van Dice

Worth subscribing just for the 3 CTS vids imo. I thought jman's was excellent, and stinger's are all very good.

Would this be useful for someone looking to improve at $100NL?

thanks for this thread, being meaning to sign up for ages but never got around to it til now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,201 ✭✭✭Macspower

just a quick one... when i go to watch a video i have to enter my username and password... does this mean if i don't renew my sub at some stage i can no longer watch vids? i imagine so?

Yep, if you download one, you can only watch it if you have an active subscription, so obviously just stream them...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,894 ✭✭✭✭phantom_lord

He knows that they are, I just went to the master sticky on 2+2 and here's his 2+2 Well (for anyone who doesn't know who TC is)

    http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=8237270&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1

I doubt he'll have time for a full blown Well here, (please correct me if I'm wrong ) but I'm sure he'll answer any questions he can.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭Rb

I don't see the point in asking him to do a full well here when he's done a massive one already on 2+2.

Read it first and then ask any questions he hasn't covered / you feel he hasn't elaborated on.

Well done with the site GP, the new layout worked out very well. WP on getting CTS on board.

Will whitelime be doing any videos?

Thanks guys. If you just have general poker questions, questions about cardrunners, anything at all, ill be glad to answer them.

Whitelime has said he will do a video for us at some time, probably won't be a full time thing you never know.

I've got a blog at www.cardrunners.com/taylorcaby so feel free to check that out if you want...it's mostly about life but a little about poker.

If you have questions about CR, I will answer them too but you might just ask Ste or any of the other members that post here, I feel that testimonials are a far better indicator of a site's value rather than the owner just trying to get people to join.

    Best,
    tc

    hi taylor,

i used to have a cardrunners account but i let it expire.i tried to join up again but the only option is to pay by credit card - i used to pay via UB transfer,is it still possible to pay by transfer on a poker site? (in light of recent events,i'll understand if you don't want the money on UB though!)

also, nice work on getting CTS on board,he's a nightmare to play against, can't wait to see his videos.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 Green Plastic

Glad to have you back! You should be able to sign up via site transfer. Poker site transfer does require a 6 month up front payment, though.

I believe you can just log in to your account, and on the dashboard click on the account button or account information (not sure exactly what it says) and get instructions to upgrade there.

If this isn't making sense or for some reason that doesn't work, please email adminATcardrunnersDOTcom and he will be glad to walk you through the process.

    Wait, is this legit?

    Hi Taylor,

On the video list page, an extra field next to the tables column that people could click on, and a text box comes up where they can write and save any notes on that specific video would be cool.
I often get a bit of a eureka moment in some of the older vids but then when I want to view it again a few weeks later or whatever I often can't find which video it was so the notes would help.
Member for 9 months now, great site and well worth it.

Just to confirm in case some people might think this is not Legit, (why you all think I would bother, is beyond me??) This is GreenPlastic/tay/Taylor Caby/co-creator of Cardrunners.com.

Maybe this is what's explaining the lack of responses to this thread.

You can all rest assured, I didn't go out set up a new account as Green Plastic and, for some reason that is beyond me, start plugging/ shilling Cardrunners. LOL

I think it's a great site and I recommend it as I have in the past and as have loads of other people on here, but that's the extent of it. I just thought it'd be cool to get Taylor to post a little on boards, so WTF, get posting people.

While I'm at it, Taylor, have you thought about trying to get samoleus to do a vid, even as a guest Pro, I'd say he would do an amazing Video, it's a shame he stopped posting on 2+2.

Here's a free video you can watch I think, I think you have to set up a free account to watch it, but it's the kind of thing you'll get, incase people don't know what we're talking about.

I'm not sure if you can view that page without logging in.
    http://www.cardrunners.com/members/show_video.php?id=292

EDIT: Just checked, you do have to log-in, but it's free to watch if anyone wants to, it's Taylor playing and commenting on 1 table of $2/$4 6-max NLHE

Wel done taylor on an excellent concept...

few quick questions or observations really..

    1) I notice that sometime in the vids it's said we'll bet here to see where we stand..... I always understood this was not good .... maybe what they really mean is I'm better here for value and if I get raised I know where I stand?

    2) I currently play 1/2 and want to move permanently to 2/4 this month.. I've watched the CTS vids so far and one of your and one of srugbys.... what do you suggest as the best to watch first for these stakes... I'm going to watch them all eventually :)

    3) what software do you use for the vids? I've tried something similar with camtasia for review purposes but cant ge the audio in sync.... you prob have a much better system I guess

    4) How do you think that the current decline of the dollar is/will affect the game?

thats all really for now...... wp/gg/nh/gl

    Mac

    1. When you bet, there's a couple of advantages. first of all, no matter what, they might fold. this is almost always good, except for the rare occasions when you a hand that cannot possibly (or rarely) be beaten on later streets and they might have picked up something later...simply put.. .when they fold, you never lose. Also, they react to you. if you show weakness (not betting), they are going to be more likely to bet (as they should) and give you less chances to improve your hand. Finally, it's good to convey an image of uncertainty. By this I mean, when you bet, people don't know what to do. They probably think most of the time they should fold, but they really don't know because you are betting with and without premium holdings (preflop and on the flop). This will cause them to play you incorrectly, folding sometimes when they shouldnt, and calling sometimes when they shouldnt. If you just bet good hands, obviously astute players will realize this and start to play better against you.

i sort of got off topic - but the information that you gain can be very valuable. lets say you have A9 on a Q92 flop. You have a pretty good hand here, but not a great one. By betting you give yourself a chance to win the pot, but you also make an opponent pay to draw against you -- he could easily have something like JK, KT, JT, hands that you are certainly ahead of, but a lot of cards could help him. BY betting, you make him define his hand to you. (if he raises, he's saying "i have a good hand," if he quickly calls, he's saying "i have a little something, but probably not anything amazing" If he takes awhile and calls, he's thinking about what to do and could have a wide variety of holdings, if he folds, obviously he has nothing).

The problem is that when you don't bet, you know absolutely nothing about his hand, and he knows something about your hand -- that you didnt like it enough to bet last street. now, sometimes you will slowplay hands, but that isn't the majority of the time.

this is a tough concept to explain, i hope that helped a little bit. i do talk about it in my videso in depth.

    2. make sure you watch brystmar's low stakes videos if you havent. he has a very good 5 part series, and although they start very basic, it will make sure you have all the fundamentals down before you start trying to play 1/2 and 2/4, which in some palces are very tough games. I would watch Fabians video, Stingers videos, Sbrugby, and mine first, but there are plenty of very good other videos. I'd vary between some of the newer ones first, then maybe watch some old ones (the games played a lot differently a few years ago).

    3) Camtasia is what we use. we have optimized the settings and it actually works quite well, but it's too hard to explain in here.

    4. I havent thought about this much, but it might take the Europeans off of some of the US sites, which would bea bad thing for me. Typically, the Americans are the toughest NLHE players (might not be the same for PLO, and obviously no offense is meant to any Europeans, but poker has been popular on the internet for 4-5 years in America, not the same for Europe), so i would be upset if this happened.

If and when the US legislation is resolved, I dont think it will be an issue. Players should be free to play anywhere and that is what they will do.

I will address more questions today but I am actually running out right now. Hope this helped.

    Best,
    tc

Taylor, do you personally use poker tracker and/or game selection software?
Whats your opinion on such software? Help or a crutch?

There is currently no discount for a promo code. We offer member's some pretty cool prizes for referring their friends, but that is it for now.

We prefer to use money that would be offered on discounts for member promotions, prizes, etc. We gave away $10,000+ worth of prizes in October to celebrate the launch of our new website and our 2 year anniversary.

If I was playing $5/10nl or less regularly, I would certainly use an in game stat tool to get a good idea of how some of the non regulars are playing.

It is my opinion that stats aren't goign to tell you everything about regulars - you are better off just trying to learn their game first, then maybe look at some stats post session to see how you did. Against completely unknown players though, or when you are playing 10 tables at a time, stats are really important because you just can't get reads on everyone.

I use poker tracker to track my results and also to learn about my opponents. But realistically, when I'm playing 3 tables of 25/50nl 4 handed, it's not going to help me that much to know that the regulars are playing 24/20 with a 75% cbet percentage or something -- it's more important to pay attention to the flow of the game than their stats over 10k hands.
