So lads, where are you all hoping to go? Obviously I'm a touch biased it being my uni and all but UL is fantastic, living on campus and the laziness of it is something else! A word to the wise though: you do an awful lot of walking. Its all good though, you need to do something to burn off the beer miles clocked up.

Trinity probably, or NCAD. Don't really like the look of the maths courses in the other colleges. (Maths course in NCAD is just superb like.)
NUIM is out of the question because it's in the awkward "too far to commute happily, too close to move out" bracket...

Jeez Galway could be quiet this year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 605 ✭✭✭Crania

Trinity for me hopefully. Going for History and Political Science(530 points last year) but I doubt I'll get the points unless they drop a bit. But I'd be happy enough with BESS(480 points last year) and I would be confident enough of getting around 480.

If I don't get either of those, it will probably be History and Politics in UCD(480 last year I think) or International Relations in DCU(410).

I massively want to go to Trinity though, without a shadow of a doubt! But if that didn't work out and if it was a straight choice between UCD and DCU, I would have to go for DCU. UCD is just the most ugliest educational institution!

Because they are. I couldn't fit them in and/or couldn't be bothered. Who'd want to go to Uni up the North anyway, pfft. :p

Is DCU not good enough for the poll?

    Buuuurn!!!

I'd recommend UCC. I'm loving it! Its really dynamic, the people are so friendly, and its great that you get to meet so many new and different people. Apparently in the Dublin colleges, people stick together, but its not like that here at all. So fun. And do Law. Sure why not like... :)

No, when a lot of people that know each other before college go to the same college they stick together. Regardless of college.

There's no mutual exclusivity between being in a different country and being operated by a different governing authority. The use of UCAS is in fact an indication that Northern Ireland is not the same country as Ireland. The fact that they use a different currency, have different governments and have different laws are further clues in this puzzle.

Do you judge football teams by the quality of their stadium or the players on the field?

Probably because so many people are from Dublin and don't know any other universities,

As for the guy who made the comment about football players and stadiums (sorry forgot it but it wad good)
Well i've checked out a lot of universities in Ireland and UL has the nicest campus as well as that its courses have very good recommendations with high numbers getting jobs soon after etc (it was in the irish times there a few weeks ago)

There are only a limited amount of options you can out in a poll. There are a some ITs missing from the poll. There are also american and british colleges missing from the poll. The original poster but in the options that he/she thought would be most popular or that where the first to pop into his head. The other option is to cater for all the colleges he/she couldn't think of or even knew of. Please, just learn to calm down a bit regob.

thats not a very good comparison as your success doesnt rely on the other people in your class, it relies on the lecturers, the facilities etc. having good classmates is not gonna mean you'll do better in the college. whereas in football the better your team the better you do. if it was a sport like tennis, then the better the facilities the better you do and whether the other tennis players are good or not is not really gonna effect you. so tennis would be a better comparison. so the college facilities would help you more than the other students in your course would help you and its not wrong to want to go to a college because of the facilities. whatever makes you happy... and rich

Believe me: Ibid is right. The most important asset of any college is the quality of its students. College is very competitive, so the others in your class will drive you on, even if you are friends with them.

    WOW..iv never heard them before!!

If I could do my course in any college i think id pick to do it in UL..not too far from home, great sports facilities, nice campus, great night life.
UCC to close to home for my liking:D
    Wouldn't move to Dublin.
Wouldn't mind NUIG..Galway lovely place..bit far from Cork tho..

Hence the "etc etc" I used in my post. I would use the rolly eyes smiley here but I loathe it. Ah feck it I might as well >

On topic; Come to UL if you're into sports I'd say!

It does depend on your class, too. If you come first in your class of a pile of dummies, nobody will care. Also the quality of the staff (not so much their teaching ability; but this is going beyond the scope of the LC forum) are the players on the pitch, not the stadium.

My point was institutions are based on their people, not their facilities. If you want to pick a university - where you study for three/four years - based on who will be standing beside you in the gym; that's up to you. You might want to consider the reputation of that university first, though.

It depends, for me last year it could only be Trinity or DCU, in the end my CAO had 10 Trinity, but DCU was a serious option for a while.

I think DCU is good because it offers some unique courses especially in the Business and Computer areas. Also some of the courses are pretty much identical wherever you go. For example, I just started BESS in Trinity and my mate's doing Business in DCU, he does nearly exactly the same stuff as me, plus it was lower points.

But I'm in Trinity now and have to act like a Trinity student, so Trinity is great, center of Dublin, great courses, great international reputation, great mix of people, great nightclubs and entertainment, great college!

UL for sure, greatest campus and everyone I know who goes there says its the grestest fun. Still not sure what course I want to do there though.
